Set up is far too long- issues connecting to Mac

The set up guide took far too long to complete. Took forever to set this thing up. Once I set it up, I tried to print, my MacBook could not find this printer on my WiFi network. I tried all troubleshooting tips and still no luck. I also tried the feature of printing from an iPhone or iPad, I expected to be able to use air printing, but was disappointed to find out that I had to download an HP app and print from that app.

HP Oficejet pro 6978 not worth the money

It's a lemon. I bought it December 3rd of last year and it's already going out to the trash. First of all I tried to change the ink cartridges and the cartridge would not center itself. I tried everything. Then I read somewhere that you can reset your printer's setting to factory so I went to try that and my printer won't even power up. Sooo mad about the waste of money.

      Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that your printer malfunctioned and will no longer turn on after you installed new ink cartridges. I can understand why that would be quite a jarring surprise, especially considering you bought the printer only about two months ago, so I’ll offer some information and resources that I hope will help.

First, I recommend going through the steps in this troubleshooting guide for printers that do not turn on:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01321436

Beyond that, HP has identified a manufacturing issue on specific production lots of supplies that can affect print quality, cause a cartridge-recognition error or other malfunctions. If you can get your printer to power up by following the guide above, HP recently released new firmware to help protect your printer from the cartridge-induced malfunction.

You can attempt to resolve the problem by following the steps below:

      1. Visit our official support site: support.hp.com
      2. In the section called “Identify your product for manuals and specific product information” insert your printer’s serial number and click “submit.”
      3. Scroll down and click the tile with “Are you having print quality issues or getting an incompatible cartridge message?”
      4. Proceed as instructed.

If problems persist, I suggest that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess the situation and find a solution. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:

      - Model number
      - Serial number
      - Your location
      - Case number (from any previous contact with HP support)

I'll also mention that HP printers have a one-year warranty from their purchase date that covers hardware as well as ink supplies, so if it comes to that, you might consider making use of it. You can verify the warranty using the following link: support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty

Very disappointing printer...when printing 1, 2 or 3 blank pages spill out between each printed page...cannot recommend this printer with the too short return window of 15 days. Best Buy should be ashamed for not having 30 day returns.

      Hi there.

I’m sorry that your printer’s document feeder has performed poorly. I can certainly understand why seeing several blank pages come out between every printed page would be quite an unwelcome surprise. I want to help you remedy this problem, so I’ll provide some resources aimed at making that happen.

First, I recommend you follow a guide on our support site to document feeders that pull through too many pages at once or fail to pick up any paper at all. Find that guide here:

      Hello,

I am sorry that you've had troubles with printing. It is unclear what is wrong. If you can scan, it is puzzling why it won't print,

We have some online resources that might help:
      - A firmware upgrade is often helpful for many issues. You can download it from:
      support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-6970-all-in-one-printer-series/8289585/model/11161264
      - The same site with the firmware also has a diagnostic tool - the Print and Scan Doctor, which often helps with common problems: support.hp.com/document/c03286146
      - The HP Forums can often offer helpful advice: hp.com/supportforum

I’ve gone through 2 of these printers. Thought The second one wouldn’t have the same problems… But it did. ( it was under warranty) After a few months it starts telling you that you need ink and or call need to add paper. This happened two days after I put HP ink in and refilled paper. After going thru 2 of these I’m done. The second one in addition to above had printhead problems. If you do buy an HP please get the warranty. Both times I got my money back under warranty!!

bought this printer early June. I would try to print 20 pages of an office form...it would print 1 page, a half page, then foreign languages and symbols or large, black streaks across the entire page, of the rest of the copies. Wasted a lot of ink. Returned for another of the same model. Same results! Bought an Epson...works great.

The printer takes forever to start and then makes about four copies of the same thing. I never turn it off because I am afraid it will take forever to start up again. It was on sale for a hundred dollars and the regular price was $170.00 now I know why. I won't make that mistake again.

I recently bought the HP6978 all in one wireless printer. It was my 3rd HP printer in 13 years. I have always been pleased with HP until now. Geek Squad and HP Tech support were unable to complete wireless install. I spent 3 hours today on the phone with HP Tech support with printing issues. Unable to copy photos. I went to Best Buy today, spoke with William and he suggested that I pay Geek Squad to come to my house to fix printer. HP Tech support said to return it. I will wait until the weekend and try to meet with HP rep at Best Buy. I am not pleased with HP.

This printer now blocks you from using non HP cartridges. It did this after a software update leaving me with a box of cartridges I can no longer use. I have disposed of printer and bought an Epson super tanker. Much cheaper ink and less waste. I would steer clear.

      Hi, Willie.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review of your printer. I can’t tell from your words, however, whether you’ve encountered difficulty or what the nature of that difficulty is. Nonetheless, I’ll suggest some resources that I hope will help you navigate any issue you face and otherwise get the most from the device.

First, to learn more about your printer and all its features, or for help solving problems, you can access user manuals, how-to documents, software updates and troubleshooting guides here:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/product/model/11161264

You can also visit a page on our support site that has diagnostic tools for various tasks and issues, including setup, cartridge installation, print quality and connectivity. There you’ll also find a general-purpose tool called the HP Print and Scan Doctor. If you use Windows, the tool will help identify and guide you through solutions to a wide range of common printing and scanning issues. Visit that page here:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/topic/diagnostics

If you need further assistance, I suggest that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess what’s happening and find the best course of action. To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:

Switched from Brother to HP; big mistake. If the printer is idle for a day or two and if a print job is given it takes forever with a message on the display "printer maintenance in progress" and if one is patient enough, you'll get the printout eventually. Whereas, my earlier Brother is already ready to print. I had similar bad experiences with HP laptop, desktop, monitor... all comparatively expensive with subpar quality. Sorry HP... you are out!
