Posted .Hello there,
I’m sorry to hear that your printer has not printed in color like it should. Your review is brief, but your disappointment is clear – and totally understandable – so I’ll offer some resources that I hope will help you improve print quality and make the most of your printer.
First, I recommend following the steps listed in this guide to addressing the problem when printed output is missing color or black ink, or the printed page is blank or has very little ink:
- support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-6970-all-in-one-printer-series/8289585/model/11161264/document/ish_2040896-1521878-16
If the problem persists, I suggest that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess the situation and find a solution. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:
- Model number
- Serial number
- Your location
- Case number (from any previous contact with HP support)
I'll also mention that HP printers have a one-year warranty from their purchase date that covers hardware as well as ink supplies, so if it comes to that, you might consider making use of it. You can verify the warranty using the following link: support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty

First impression
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For those looking to decide if this printer is right for you, let me offer my first impressions, having just purchased and setup this printer. I'll start with the bad and end with the good. THE BAD: I followed the installation instructions to the letter and was disappointed that I immediately had issues with the setup. 1. Failed to install updates from the web: I connected the printer to my network using an ethernet cable rather than using wireless. Although the printer found and connected to my network, it gave me a message that it had failed to install necessary updates from the web. Multiple attempts failed. After giving up and moving on to other setup options, the problem was inadvertently corrected through one of the other setup options (which I cannot recall). Summary: yes it now works, but not by following the setup instructions. 2. Failed to scan. One of the first steps required is to print a test page and then to scan the page. That was simple and worked just fine, or so I thought. I assumed that since it scanned once it would be ready to go. Wrong. Attempting to scan a document to my PC failed. This was only corrected after I went to HP website and followed diagnostic instructions which led me to download and install all the HP software for the printer. Keep in mind that the printer doesn't come with a setup CD or DVD and the instructions don't tell you that you need additional software to scan. Summary: I'm not sorry I downloaded the software but it is too bad that I had to spend a bit of time doing so. 3. Paper jam: my second printing job resulted in a paper jam. So out of 5 pages printed, one jammed and for no obvious reason (all new paper with crisp edges, all in the feed tray properly). Clearing the jab requires pulling out the paper tray (which is like pulling out a kitchen cabinet drawer- you have to work the levers on the slides to get it to come out) and then I had to put the printer on its back in order to get at the paper and pull it out. Summary: clearing paper jams is difficult and requires extra effort. 4. My first photo printing job failed: I placed a piece of photo paper in the paper tray on top of other plain paper. When the printer pulled the photo paper it also pulled one of the plain papers as well so it ended up printing part of the photo on the photo paper and part on the plain paper. A waste of ink as well as paper. To prevent this in the future I will take out all the paper from the tray and only insert the photo paper. Perhaps this is unnecessary, but I'd rather not take the chance. 5. The pre-print "dance". Not sure what else to call it, but prior to printing there is a good deal of time spent by the printer getting ready to print...at least a minute, perhaps two...as it does some sort of maintenance prior to printing. The good news is that it appears to only do this on the first print when it hasn't been used in awhile. Still, irritating and different from my last HP printer where you could turn it on and print immediately. 6. The starter ink pack is really lame, so do yourself a favor and buy some spare ink right away. From the ink usage shown by the printer I think I am on track to need more ink in less than 50 pages of printing. 7. Build quality: what do you expect for $100? Really hard to know how long to expect this thing to work, but I am not thinking I'll get the 6 years I got out of my last HP printer (C5550). 8. Will it allow me to print in ONLY black if the color ink cartridges are low? I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this. But it is likely that the printer may cease to print if ANY of the ink cartridges are low and this is alarming. It means I'll need to always have spare ink on hand. THE GOOD: 1. Windows 7 easily recognized the printer and installed basic drivers for printing. However, as I indicated above, those basic drivers don't appear to be sufficient for scanning and you will need to download additional HP software to make scanning work. There were no instructions in the box preparing you for this and no instructions on where to go to get the software. 2. HP Instant Ink. At least I think this is good: you can sign up to have the printer monitor your usage and send ink to you just in time of need. Since ink costs are what many people are most concerned about, paying $5 per month to always have a supply of ink sufficient for 100 pages of printing per month seems like a good deal (there are other plans available). This service is optional but if you do sign up be aware that you will need to supply personal information as well as email address and phone #. Be careful when you sign up to check boxes that allow you to opt out of receiving unwanted marketing emails. I can't confirm, but suspect that HP will sell my contact info to others for targeted marketing. 3. Print speed and quality: Initial printing in normal black and white was great. Color photo printing in normal mode was also good, in my opinion. 4. Greeting card printing: using thick card stock was no problem, the printer has an option to select thick paper. I understand some printers choke on thick paper, so glad that wasn't the case with this one. 5. Printing from other computers in the house that are on the same network: I have a Win 10 laptop that quickly found the HP printer and printing to it was painless. Keep in mind that my HP is connected with an ethernet cable, so I cannot comment on how the wireless printing would work. SUMMARY: be prepared for a less-than-perfect setup process and you'll need to be savvy enough to navigate HP's website to find software you need to use the printer to its full potential. Because of the setup difficulties I encountered, I would not recommend this printer to my "non-techie" friends. I am giving the printer 3 stars, but keep in mind that I have only owned it for a few days.

Posted .Hi,
I am so sorry to hear this.
We would have loved to have helped you adjust the printer so that it would work well for you. Our printers have a year-long warranty and customer service is offered without charge during that period.
Please consider trying again. Perhaps a different type of printer would have suited your needs better.

Posted .Hello Skip,
I'm sorry that you're having trouble printing right now, but I have high hopes that we can fix this fairly easily.
it might be that the printhead needs cleaning. That is a fairly easy process and you can start the process from the control panel's Printer Maintenance menu.
If the cleaning helped, it might be that printer.has been turned off using a power strip or switch. You should always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That will let the printer 'park' itself so that the printhead is protected from excess drying. That can cause clogs to form in the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper.
If there is anything else that we can help with, please contact us: hp.com/contactHP
