This HP all-in-one printer is a great buy especially for the price. It's a great home or small business device to have. Print quality is great, scanner and fax work seamlessly and the wireless connectivity is great. Allows you to print from your laptop or even your smart phone, which is very convenient. I definitely recommend this device.

We needed a new printer so I did my homework and decided on the 6978. Signed cup for the instant ink at the store and I got a free month. When I got home and set the printer up it was super easy. It found my network attached itself, I fired up my laptop followed the instructions and prompts and it downloaded the software and updates and then doubled checked the instant ink thing and it gave me 3 months free. The printer was installed and set up within about 20 minutes. All our devices found the new printer (iPad,iPhone, mac, laptop pic) and all printed immediately. I used the feature to give the printer an email address (customized name) and tried it from home, it worked perfectly. Later we all went to town for dinner (we live about 25 miles out in the country) and while eating I forwarded an email to the printer, when we got home the printed email was there. So far I love this printer. The print clarity is great and it's not loud or slow. I plan on printing double sided later so will see about that. For now this is the best experience I have EVER HAD installing a new printer. Love it love it.

    It has its limited life

I got quite a bit of print out of the printer about 2000 pages over the 3 years. But the paper gear broke and I got a new part to replace it. It keeps falling off. Then it stopping printing color doesn’t matter what I do and restore and install new cartridges it just wouldn’t print colors anymore. I had my canon for more than 8 years, tho I need to clean the printer head from time to time but it’s still printing well.

Great AIO printer -led screen too small

We bought this printer per its scanning capabilities, i.e. automatic double sided scanning-dss, as opposed to other models that claim this feature but you actually have to flip the page manually to scan both sides...not sure how can this option be called dss, so beware and read the detailed specs on the model you are researching. Printing is fine and many options for quality available including double sided printing. Setup is easy and intuitive (not following the booklet instructions though..). Had a hard time entering our alphanumerical wifi password on the tiny led screen, hence the 4-star rating.

Love this printer. Had the previous model (no longer produced) and loved it. So easy to hook up and use. I don’t have wifi but it connects to my phone hotspot (unlike other printers that claimed to but wouldn’t) and usb for the scanner.

For the money, especially since Best Buy dropped the price in half from when I bought it 2 months ago. This thing does everything that I wished, haven't had any jams which I was worried about after reading the reviews. Scans great, easy set up. Would have given it a higher score but was still ticked about the price drop and probably knew about it. Not the printers fault..

Printing Fine; Super Annoying to Use

Print quality is fine, but everything else about this printer is incredibly, horrifically annoying. The lid slams shut, no resistance or soft closing whatsoever. The touchscreen is not very sensitive, you have to press fairly hard and at the exact right spot to get it to do anything. Hey-ooo! This is a PG review, folks. When I first went to install the ink, the ink trolley does not line up with the colors on the little bar indicating what ink tank goes where. So I spent about 5-10 minutes trying to jam the yellow ink into the black ink spot, all because they couldn't design it so that the trolley lines up with the indicators. Such a simple solution!! But nope. No can do. Just too much for HP to handle. The default setting is you get a little clickey/beep sound every time you hit something on the touch screen. Because I'm a 5-year-old who likes fun noises? Thanks, but I'm an adult who doesn't need cute sounds to blip and bleep on every piece of electronics. I can't stand this trend towards lights and sounds and sensory stimulation on everything. Anyway, it takes about 10 minutes of going down a non-intuitive rabbit hole of settings to figure out how to mute it. The paper shoots out and across the room, unless you keep the tray extension open, which adds a good 5" to the depth of the printer, taking up even more space. Of course, you can close the tray extension when not printing, but that means you have to walk over and open the extension every time you print. My old Canon that finally died used to automatically open the tray extension so you didn't have to walk over. I'm on a fairly old MacBookPro, OS 10.12 (yes, I refuse to update my software since Apple likes to completely mess things up when you do that). Couple issues that might be based on my OS: printer insists on 2-sided color printing as the default setting, and I cannot figure out how to change that. I even got on the phone with HP, and they couldn't figure it out either. She said maybe it's because my OS is so old. So then I tried creating a B&W pre-set that does not utilize 2-sided. But then I can't make that custom pre-set my default. So what's the point? There's no way to set anything as default, except the factory default, which is 2-sided color. Also based on my old OS: at first my MacBook just would not print via wifi. I know the printer is hooked up to wifi because I was able to do things online with it, and I could email to it. But printing over wifi was not happening, until... by some miracle it just happened. I have no idea what changed. I didn't do anything differently. I tried about 25-30 times, getting a crash report from Apple each time, and then all of a sudden it just worked. ???? As for the scanning, I'm sure there's more settings I need to scrub through, but upon my first attempt at scanning, it seems that the default is to send the file to an obscure folder on your computer that you need to have an eagle eye for, because the Mac finder window disappears after a minute. So yep, completely in line with having the most annoying setting as possible as the default. Can't wait to see how long it will take me to figure out a better way. Summary? In the year 2021, all you get is a perfectly acceptable piece of printed paper after a lot of non-intuitive tinkering, grey hairs, and many many curse words.

I have no complaints. The print quality is excellent and set up was easy. I'm a retired person with minimal experience setting up electronics of any kind....and I had this out of the box and printing off my computer in 2-3 hours.
