    HP Account required

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It requires an HP account and sign in to do anything wirelessly aside from printing. I bought a cord, as scanning is my primary use for it and it doesn't work connected. It keeps defaulting to the app which again wants you to have an account. If you just want a simple printer without the hassle, I would choose a different printer and would avoid HP all together.

    A Lousy Printer

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had this printer for about three weeks before taking it back. It was nothing but problems. It would stop in the middle of printing a document, freeze for about 20 seconds, and then resume. Envelopes would not format correctly despite trying every possible setting. Eventually it would not hold the wireless connection. HP support said to unplug the printer for 60 seconds, which would work for a couple of print jobs and then I'd have to do it again. Eventually it would not connect at all. Hours spent with HP support did not help. Eventually I exchanged this for another brand which, by the way, has no problem connecting or printing I've owned a lot of printers over the years, but this was my first experience with HP. It will also be my last.

    Printer is brutal

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We purchased this a year ago. When attempting to print a sheet or two, it takes five minutes to initiate the actual printing of it. It then takes a fifteen minute regeneration cycle to run before it can print again. It is performing system maintenance. In one hour, I attempted to print 4 sheets. I still do not have all four printed because of the maintenance hang up. It is wireless and slower than a snail. I would not reccomend this printer. The drivers are all updated too. I looked into this in the midst of this.

    Do Not Purchase

This product is terrible. I've had the printer for about a year. I call in to the customer support line and they tell me that it is a lost cause, I need to chuck the printer, and purchase a new one. They said that if you don't buy it directly from them, it will have a much shorter life. If you want to pay the HP Instant Ink and the price of the printer each year, by all means, go for it. It will get very costly very quickly for you to remain an HP Customer.

    Was a Good Printer

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this printer in January, and for the most part, I was happy with it. But the new firmware update prevents ALL refilled & third-party ink cartridges from working. And once the firmware has been updated, it cannot be rolled back to the previous version. I had repeatedly declined this firmware update, but HP just forced the update without asking permission on a device I bought and own. In the 20 years of buying HP printer, I've watched the quality take a nose-dive. Newer one usually crap out within 3 years and ink prices keep increasing. That's it, I'm done with HP.

    JUNK

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought this printer on Black Friday. Went through the shipping cartridges like water. Replaced with off-brand. Will not print red. (found online comments that also does this with HP cartridges) went to the HP Service site. Rep said the offbrand voids any warranty and would not help me at all. Told him it will be the last HP product I will ever buy. I will find out tomorrow how lenient Best Buy's return policy is. If they won't take it back, I will buy an Epson or Canon elsewhere. The only reason I rated this a one star is I couldn't go lower. Wouldn't even recommend to an enemy.

      Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that your printer experienced a paper jam and won’t work properly. I can certainly understand why that would be an abrupt and unpleasant surprise after three years of good performance. I want to help you out of this dilemma, so I’ll suggest some resources I hope will reach that end.

First, I recommend going through the steps to clearing and avoiding paper jams that you’ll find in this troubleshooting guide on our support site:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05079673

You might also find it helpful to check out this support document regarding how to best store and handle paper to avoid jams:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04518237

If you need further support, there are options. HP printers have a one-year warranty from the purchase date that covers basic support as well as hardware and supplies, and some buyers purchase extended warranties. You can verify the warranty using the following link:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty

If your printer is still covered, you can contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess the situation and find a solution.

If your printer is no longer covered, you might consider posting the details of your issue on our support forums. This is an active community of seasoned experts, including some former and current HP employees, who can work with you to get your printer running as it should. To access this, visit the following link:

I hope this helps and, again, our sincerest apologies.

    Don't buy it!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have now had two of these printers, and ended up getting a Brother one because neither of this model worked well. The first one jammed every time I printed, and Best Buy graciously replaced it. The second one would not stay connected to the wireless, and some of the cartridges sent by the Instant Ink program didn't work in the printer. I wasted my money; the printer is now sitting on the floor of my office. I usually don't give unfavorable reviews, but this product was a big time- and money-waster. I'm disappointed because I've had great experiences with HP in the past.

That sounds frustrating. I'm very sorry that this happened to you.

Please give us a chance to make this right for you. It seems a shame to just leave it on the floor, especially since it is probably still within the warranty period.

    Supplies will kill you

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Printer is functional. We use this printer for personal use and need new cartridges every two months like clockwork. After owning this printer for about two+ years, we spent $100 for the printer itself and almost $1200 for ink cartridges! So much for "cheap, efficient printing". HP is drowning us in ink costs. Go elsewhere or at least know that you'll be paying out the heiny for ink cartridges.

    Inconsistent and TERRIBLE Customer Service

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The main issue is that this printer operates extremely inconsistently. Beyond paper jams, I received numerous "Printer Failure" errors within the 1 year this was owned. What makes it worse is that HP's customer service was awful. It was never easy to connect with someone who knew what they were talking about. Following an obvious prompt, we spent hours to find out that the printer was not fixable. Went it was working, output was average at best. Never impressive. STAY AWAY FROM THIS NIGHTMARE.

It's great if you like printer maintenance. Every time I go to use this machine, it goes into 5 minutes of "printer maintenance". Why it can't do that while I'm not using it is so dumb. What's the opposite of smart? This machine. Don't buy it unless you like waiting for your documents necessarily.

Absolute JUNK. Talk about a supply shortage. HP is aware of the hardware issues with this once fantastic printer. But can't fix it. My old one lasted 6 years without a hitch. This newer one sucks to bin. Constantly jams during printing or scanning. Stalls or freezes. Software also unresponsive. I am done with HP for awhile.

Do Not Buy - Printer Failure after 5 prints

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Do not buy this printer. The printer had a massive failure after five prints. Problem for me was, 5 prints came after 60 days. HP is sending me a refurbished one instead of a new one. Really? I wonder how long the refurbished one will last? 5 prints in 60 days=major product failure. Regardless, I know I'm not the only one with this issue. Even if it's on sale, do not pick up this printer.

Replacing ink cartridges is a nightmare!

Printer is two years old. EVERY time I need to put in new cartridges, the printer refuses to recognize them. I only buy HP cartridges. After MANY tries of following all the recommended troubleshooting the printer will finally work. Often having to replace cartridges that are not empty or expired! Should have returned the printer while it was under warranty! Love everything else about this printer.

      Hi Jean,

I am saddened to hear that you love almost everything about the printer except the cartridge replacement. Maybe I can offer some suggestions that will help relieve your nightmares!

First of all, some cartridges of this type have had the little tab on the side pushed in during shipment. For the cartridge to snap in properly, you need to carefully bend the tab away from the cartridge body. Take care not to bend it more than about a half inch!

If that doesn't help, it might be that the cartridge vent didn't open properly when the wrapping was removed. There is a post on the HP Forums that discusses a different problem than yours, but does give good directions on ensuring that the vent opening is clear enough to work properly. You can see that post here:
      https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/HP-Printer-Cartridge-Issues/td-p/6586094

If none of those tips work, and if the genuine HP cartridge is still within the warranty end dates on the cartridge, you can reach out to us for support: hp.com/contactHP

Won't stay connected to network; poor support

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The printer will not stay connected to the drivers on user PC's. It drops offline frequently and requires rebooting the printer and the PC to re-establish a connection. HP's customer support always blames the network even though the printer is still accessible via its IP address. This printer has a serious design flaw and should not be purchased for use in a wireless environment.

      Hey there,

I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't had a very reliable experience with your printer's wireless capabilities so far. You certainly shouldn't have to go to the lengths of reinstalling the printer so frequently, so I can imagine how disappointing this has been. Going forward, I really want to ensure that this gets rectified, so let's see how I can help.

First, I'd recommend taking the recommended steps in this 'Offline Printer' document:
      - Windows: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04249080
      - Mac: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04249334

As a supplement to that, this link will guide you through solutions for a wide range of other wireless issues: hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=Printer_Does_Not_Maintain_Wireless_Connection.net

If this falls short, I hope you'll consider allowing us another opportunity to provide support. We would be more than happy to work with you on resolving this.
