Great beginning PC. Bought this along with the OMEN monitor. Comes with a keyboard and mouse for beginners, but totally upgradable (you will probably want to). I did have an issue around 15 days into having it, the RGB of the bottom fan went out. (shown in pics) Contacted HP and sent it in for free repair (thanks to 1 year warranty) and it is perfect now.

We are very happy with the OMEN HP Desktop. It was delivered quickly, set-up was super easy and the fact that it supports 3 HDMI ports makes it a must have for the multi-takers with multiple screens. Great purchase.

Great computer - needs a bigger hard drive

This is a great computer, but it really needs a bigger hard drive. The computer is fast, stylish, clean looking, and quiet. The ports at the top of the case are easily accessible, and overall the computer just runs great. The RGB is bright and fun, and the computer gives off a clean looking "gamer vibe." The graphics card is a little odd in that it has multiple DisplayPort outputs and a single HDMI output. Not all of my monitors have DisplayPort, but HDMI is fairly common. I would have expected it to have two HDMI outputs (though I do understand that it's easier to split a DisplayPort signal between multiple outputs than an HDMI signal). I'm not sure, but I think the power cable might be something proprietary too. It looks like a standard PC power cable layout, but it looks a bit smaller than normal (maybe 80-90% the size?). I only have one real complaint about this computer, and it's that the hard drive is too small. My personal opinion is that 1TB isn't enough space for a modern gaming computer. With modern games averaging 50-70GB each, it won't take much to fill up this drive. It's not immediately clear to me if the storage on this computer can be upgraded. I'm assuming that there's another NVME or SATA port somewhere on this motherboard, but I'm not seeing them right off, and I haven't been able to find a hardware guide for this computer on HP's site yet. I do see that there appears to be a bay for a 3.5" hard drive at the bottom of the case. That gives me hope that there's at least a SATA port hiding somewhere. Worse case scenario, you can always purchase an external hard drive and install some of your games to it to free up some space. This desktop does have ample USB ports. The HP Omen software also integrates nicely with GeForce Now, and the computer comes with a trial of XBox Game Pass. You can always use one of these cloud gaming services to free up some storage space too.

A Good Entry PC for PC Gaming

The HP OMEN 35L Gaming Desktop with the AMD Ryzen 5 8500 CPU, 16GB DDR5 Memory, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, and 1TB SSD, is a quality entry level Prebuilt and a good bang for your buck. I've had a chance to put it through its paces over the past week, and here’s my thoughts on it. From the moment I powered up the HP OMEN 35L, it's clear that this machine was designed for gaming. The AMD Ryzen 5 8500, with its 6 cores and 12 threads, made light work of everyday tasks. Whether I was multitasking between a dozen browser tabs, gaming, streaming high-definition videos, or working on big spreadsheets, the desktop remained smooth and responsive. The computer comes equipped with the Omen software where you can tune your PC, along with changing the RAM Speeds (which by default is not set to the highest speed), adjust fan curve and change the RGB Lighting. The PC also comes with a ton of bloatware installed that I recommend uninstalling to free up space and memory usage. The 16GB of DDR5 memory was more than sufficient for handling simultaneous applications. Switching between demanding programs, such as photo editing software and virtual machines, was seamless. Booting up was quick, thanks to the 1TB SSD, which also made file transfers and program launches virtually instantaneous. I will say I was concerned initially that the motherboard only had one M.2 SSD slot on it. But after flipping the case on its side I noticed there was an SSD logo on the motherboard under the GPU. So if you do decide to upgrade your Storage by adding an additional SSD, you will need to take out the GP, in order to install the new M.2 SSD. Since this is a prebuilt, and most people will be hesitant in removing their GPU, I wish HP would have installed the M.2 in that Slot. It does also have a sled enclosure in the case for Hard Drive storage, but only room for one HDD or SSD. Also the 500 Watt Power supply is not modular, so adding more HDD or SSD limits you to one and you will not be able to add more. The cable management is well done in the case and is neatly organized and routed throughout and has a fan splitter in the back of the case if you want to add more fans for air flow. The motherboard also has WiFi built in on it along with bluetooth, and plenty of I/O in the back with 6x USB-A ports, 2x of those being 5gbs ports, 1x 10GBs USB-C port, Cat5 ethernet jack, microphone and audio jacks. The PC does come with a mouse and keyboard, but they are cheap and I recommend getting something better. Now, onto the fun part—gaming. With the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 onboard, I was excited to see how it fared, especially with the latest DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology. I fired up a few demanding titles to test its capabilities. In Cyberpunk 2077, running with a mixture of low and medium settings with DLSS set to “Ultra performance,” on my 4K TV, the game ran around 30-55 FPS. It was very choppy and was kind of hard to play. So, I decided to run it on my 1440P monitor along with DLSS, which made a noticeable difference, enhancing frame rates without compromising visual fidelity. The AI upscaling seemed to handle the heavy lifting well, maintaining acceptable visuals without any choppiness. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, I enabled DLSS and set it to “Performance” mode, I was getting anywhere from 80-100 FPS. The gameplay was fluid, with minimal stuttering or frame drops, even during intense firefights. The graphics were stunning, and DLSS provided a visual experience that was immersive and smooth. The 4060 GPU is usable at 4K if you’re playing competitive games that are not too graphics intensive compared to high end AAA games and I’d recommend using a 1440p display to get the most out of the card. Pros and Cons Pros: 1. Good price to Performance: The AMD Ryzen 5 8500 and 16GB DDR5 RAM ensure smooth performance for both daily tasks and demanding applications. 2. Gaming: The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, combined with DLSS technology, delivers exceptional gaming performance, even at Medium to higher settings at 1440p. 3. Fast Storage: The 1TB M.2 SSD provides quick boot times and rapid access to files, making everything from starting up to loading games a breeze. 4. Design and Build: The HP OMEN 35L has a sleek, modern design with good airflow, which helps keep the system cool even under heavy load. Cons: 1. Bloatware: The pre-installed software includes some unnecessary bloatware that takes up space and can be a hassle to remove. 2. Power Supply: Lack of modular power supply limits you to what you can upgrade. 3. Keyboard and Mouse: Cheap plastic and sound awful, invest in better ones. Overall, the HP OMEN 35L Desktop is a good starter PC for those wanting to get into PC gaming and for those not wanting to break the bank. This PC is perfect if you want to play competitive games like Fortnite, Valorant, Apex and Warzone at 1440p. If you are wanting to play high end AAA games at 4K, you will probably want to go with something that has a higher end GPU and CPU.

KEY SPECS Ryzen 5 8500G (6C / 12T) 16GB DDR5 5200MHz RAM 1TB NVMe SSD nVidia RTX 4060 w/ 8GB PORTS USB-A 3.0 x 4 (5Gb) USB-C x 2 (10Gb) USB-A 2.0 x 4 1 RJ-45 1 HDMI / 3 DP 3.5mm HEADPHONE / LINE / MIC 3.5” HDD Drive Tray x 1 DESIGN HP has come a long way with their Omen desktops. I was fortunate to receive an Omen 30L desktop several years ago for review. The 30L Omen case was abysmal. Air flow management was so horrible, that the processor and graphics card rapidly reached 100C and thermal throttled. Even with an old nVidia 1660 graphics card and 9th generation Intel processor, the PC was nearly unplayable. I spent several hundred dollars on the Omen just to make it usable. I had to buy an AiO and multiple case fans for cooling. Even then, you could tell that the results were adequate, at best. Fast forward 3 generations later and HP has finally brought out an acceptable redesign. Gone are the gimmicky designs, going back to what works, a box with a lot of fans. 2 in the front drawing in air, 1 in the back exhausting air, and 1 on the AMD Boxed cooler. Combine that with airflow vents on the top, bottom, and back and HP has finally given the enthusiast market a case that allows for sufficient airflow and low noise levels, even after hours of gaming. Going along with that re-design are honest, off-the-shelf compatible parts. Even with HP specific part numbers and builds, the installed items are standard sized components. Standardized items include: mATX motherboard, standardized 500W power supply, cooling fans, etc. Excellent. Should something fail, or should the end-user want to upgrade, he/she is not forced to ditch the entire PC and can upgrade when the need, budget, and time allows without being limited to vendor-specific parts. GAMING PERFORMANCE TLDR – On most AAA games, this PC is severely GPU bound. Some games like Forza are optimized pretty well for the CPU / GPU combo, but for most games, the GPU is running at nearly 100% while the CPU chugs along at a leisurely 35% (give or take). Not saying the Omen 35L can’t turn some decently respectable numbers, but there is quite a bit left on the table with pairing a base 4060 with this Ryzen processor. My go-to games for testing are usually Forza Horizon 5, Starfield, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, and F1 2023. Most are games I play on a fairly regular basis, but are also games that will demand a great deal from the GPU if you have it (Starfield). My test monitor is a 48” LG Ultra Gear 4k OLED 120Hz gaming monitor. My testing of the various games returns the following: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 4k – 42fps (Native monitor resolution, no DLSS option) 1440p – 106fps with DLSS / 117fps without DLSS Forza Horizon 5 4k Ultra – 77fps (Native monitor resolution, no DLSS option) 1440p Ultra – 93fps without DLSS / 101 with DLSS 4k High – 78fps (Native monitor resolution, no DLSS option) 1440p High – 118 fps with and without DLSS Starfield 4k High – 27fps without DLSS / 62 with DLSS 1440p High – 55fps without DLSS / 109fps with DLSS F1 2023 4k Medium – 37fps without DLSS / 63fps with DLSS 1440p High – 86 without DLSS / 127fps with DLSS 1440p Ultra – 51fps with DLSS (Unplayable without DLSS) I did not test lower than 1440p resolution. For me, these framerates are more than enjoyable even if they aren’t competition level. Enabling the DLSS option at 1440p makes a discernible difference in video quality, sharpening images and reducing on-screen artifacts. NEGATIVES First – HP has no provisions to access the integrated graphics of the AMD processor. Unlike most manufacturers, there isn’t a separate HDMI connection on the rear header, forcing sole use of the RTX 4060. There is no way to save power and disable the discreet graphics card. Two – I seriously question HP’s included selection of ports. Port selection feels like a desktop from 4 years ago. There are no Thunderbolt ports, no USB-C 4.0 ports, just basic USB A & C ports. In this day and age, there is no reason not to provide high-speed USB-C style ports. A simple USB-C 4.0 or Thunderbolt port to provide 40Gb output and access to the integrated GPU would be welcome and quite frankly, should be a standard addition for any desktop wanting to appeal to enthusiasts. CONCLUSIONS The Omen 35L is a decent entry-level gaming computer from HP. It has more than enough power for everyday workloads. Streaming 2 independent 1080p videos, while downloading games at more than 500Mb/s, reading emails, and updating some drivers in the background barely taxed the PC. CPU and GPU utilization was at a reasonable 40%. Not bad at all. The new Omen design is a marked improvement over Omens from the past. Even after long, strenuous gaming sessions, CPU and GPU temps remained good with no signs of thermal throttling. Even better, even when being fully taxed, the whole system remains quiet and composed. I was shocked at how quiet the new PC is. Compared to my older Omen, the 35L is a night and day difference. You can hear the fans, but they are not obnoxious and considerably quieter than most desktops. HP should be commended for their improvements. In the end, there are 2 things holding this desktop back. One is the underpowered graphics card compared to the CPU. A 4060Ti would go a long way in improving overall system effectiveness. Two is the anemic selection of ports. Even though there is a sufficient quantity of ports, they are substandard. Too slow for modern times and severely inhibit hooking modern devices to the desktop. However, the desktop is still a decent entry-level gaming rig. RECOMMENDED

I was in the market for a new gaming PC that could handle modern titles without the hassle and cost of building one myself. After a month with the HP Omen 35L (RTX 4060 model), I am utterly impressed. This machine is a testament to how good pre-built systems have become, offering fantastic performance, a sleek design, and genuine upgradeability. Immediate, No-Fuss Performance Right out of the box, the Omen 35L was ready to game. The setup was a simple matter of plugging in the power and monitor cables. I didn't have to worry about installing drivers, troubleshooting faulty components, or dealing with BIOS updates. Within 20 minutes, I was downloading my library. This PC is perfect for anyone who wants a top-tier gaming experience without the build anxiety. Handles Everything I Throw at It The combination of the AMD Ryzen 5 8500G and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 is a perfect match for high-fidelity 1080p and smooth 1440p gaming. I've been playing Cyberpunk 2077 with Ray Tracing on medium settings and getting buttery smooth frame rates. Less demanding titles like Fortnite and Apex Legends easily hit their max frame rate caps at 1440p. The 16GB of DDR5 RAM ensures everything is snappy, and the 1TB NVMe SSD is blazing fast—games and the OS load in a flash. A Case That's Both Beautiful and Practical The Omen 35L case is a standout feature. It looks fantastic on my desk with its clean white and black aesthetic and subtle RGB lighting—it's stylish without being overly "gamer-y." More importantly, it's brilliantly designed for airflow. The front is mesh, allowing the large front fan to pull in plenty of cool air. Even during long, intense gaming sessions, the temperatures remain remarkably cool and the fans, while audible under load, are never obnoxiously loud. Smartly Designed for the Future A huge selling point for me was the upgradeability. Many pre-builts use proprietary parts that lock you in. HP has done a great job here; the motherboard uses standard connections, the power supply is a standard ATX unit, and there's plenty of room to add more RAM, storage, or even a more powerful GPU down the line. This isn't a closed system; it's a foundation I can build upon for years to come. Final Verdict The HP Omen 35L strikes a rare balance. It delivers exceptional plug-and-play performance for today's games, looks fantastic doing it, and doesn't punish you for wanting to upgrade later. It's the ideal system for: · Gamers who want a powerful, ready-to-go rig without the complexity of building. · Students or professionals who need a capable machine for both work and play. · Enthusiasts who appreciate a well-built case with standard components for future upgrades. For its price point, the performance and build quality you get are outstanding. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. 9.5/10.

Getting a good gaming PC these days seems to be getting harder and harder. Anyone who regularly follows tech news can likely tell you that the last few years has seen just many of the major established brands being rocked with scandals, shortages, or just blatant corner cutting. So it was a bit of a relief to try out HP's Omen 35L. It may not be the flashiest, the most powerful, or glow like the Vegas Strip, but it is a highly capable and eminently sensible design using parts that a budding gamer could conceivably still be using in a new build a decade from now - making it one of the best options for those looking to get the best bang for their buck. I could probably spend this entire review gushing about the overall design and build quality on display here. A lot of "gaming" brands are guilty of just sticking plastic cases and fancy heat spreaders over standard workstation hardware, but HP seems to be making a real effort to use the kind of enthusiast grade parts that you'd see in a custom built machine. The case opts for an aesthetic some might call minimalist, though personally I prefer "tastefully boxy." And I'm pleased to say that it avoids pretty much every major sin that I've come to expect from pre-built gaming PCs. The case is laid out with a fairly standard 2-intake 2-exhaust layout, with removable filters for intakes on the front and bottom and the back and top being open. It comes with 2 140mm fans in the front as standard and while the provided PSU is a rear-intake design there's easily enough room to upgrade to one with a 120mm bottom intake in the future, with big chunky rubber feet providing very acceptable clearance. The top has a removable bracket for an additional 2 140 or 120mm fans or a radiator for water cooling. And overall airflow is very good. It's not quite the equal of a full mesh design, but the grid perforations in the top and front are far better than I've come to expect these days where far too many cases are opting for barely adequate side scoops. Even better than the cooling though is the level of care taken to allow for future upgrades. The case has an integrated (removable) anti-sag bracket for longer 2-slot GPUs, ample options for cable management, a toolless hard drive/SSD cage (already pre-wired and managed with color matched cabling) and nice captive thumbscrews for all the body panels. It is missing a few minor QOL and cosmetic features, like rubber grommets for cable paths, integrated sound deadening, or a cover for the basement, but what's here is enough for it to compare very favorably with most mid-range enthusiast case offerings. Moving on to the rest of the parts, again I find a lot to commend them for. A common complaint with pre-built gaming PCs is that there isn't much thought given to component selection, which leads to unbalanced machines with overpowered (and overpriced) CPUs and GPUs being hopelessly bottlenecked by the underspec'd parts meant to support them. This feels like someone made a conscious choice to target midrange performance and stuck with it. You've got a G4 Samsung NVMe drive, Kingston gaming spec'd RAM, a very modest (but deceptively powerful) RTX4060, and a Ryzen 5 all being driven by a 500 Cooler Master PSU. Left as it is it's the kind of hardware mix that's very good for optimizing for lifespan, or for providing a solid base for significant upgrades in three years' time. And it's reflected in its gaming performance. While it's not a machine meant to be setting benchmark records it still consistently returned above average scores in both synthetic and real life tests, and delivers a great gaming experience at 1080P and 1440P resolutions. I probably wouldn't want to jump to 4K unless you're a big fan of retro games, but I can see a few relatively affordable paths to getting it there if that's something you're into. Thermals were admittedly higher than I'm used to, but as I kept reminding myself Ryzens are designed to run hot and they were still well within their acceptable operating range. And given how quiet the machine is able to run under load, there is definitely something to be said for targeting the temperatures they did. There's also some software tricks being used behind the scenes to recognize known games and apply some minor performance tuning to crank out a few extra FPS. It's not going to compare to a custom overclock in regards to how much of a bump you get, but it also comes with a lot less risk and zero frustration. It is an easy recommendation for to to anyone looking for a solid gaming PC they don't need to mess with or as a starting point for someone hoping to ease their way into the hobby of custom PC building.

Power of a gaming console in a PC

This PC comes well packaged, and I like that the plastic bag it comes wrapped in has handles to effortlessly remove it from the box. The case is mostly metal and has a very cool white color. The glass side allows a good view of the inside and HP did a good job of using mostly white power cables inside to match the case. Everything inside was well organized and the wire management is excellent. The CPU cooler fan, two memory sticks, two front fans and the rear exhaust fan all have RGB lighting that can be easily controlled by the Omen gaming software. Setup and updates were seamless on startup. There is an onboard wireless adapter that uses the latest WiFi-7 BE standard. There is not a lot of pre-installed software, and it does come with a 30-day trial of McAfee anti-virus. The 1TB SSD allows plenty of room for installing games and software. 16GB of RAM is plenty of power to run most games in 1080P or 1440P. You will probably want more if you plan to connect to a 4K monitor. The 4060 graphics card has 8GB of memory and will run games comparable to the latest gaming consoles. It has just enough power and runs efficiently and very quiet even in intense gaming sessions. The Omen gaming software has a wealth of features and can automatically boost the efficiency of the system when playing games. I have several games systems, and the performance matched some of my other much more expensive and powerful hardware systems. There are plenty of USB ports on the back and USB and USB-C on the top of the case as well. The overall unit is compact, and this PC will look good displayed anywhere in your house.

To be honest we had some misgivings about purchasing an "open box" computer. However, with prices being what they are these days, we decided to take a chance. So far it has paid off. If there hadn't been extra packing tape on the shipping container we would never be able to tell it wasn't completely new. There are no visible blemishes on the unit, all of the parts were there, and it runs perfectly. It seems to have good speed and processing capacity. It also came with a matching keyboard and mouse. My gamer is quite happy with this purchase. My only suggestion to potential purchasers would be to invest in an upgraded mouse if you are a serious gamer.

It runs very nicely especially for 16GB of ram and even if I have 3 large games open along with my browsers, it rarely ever runs into issue. Everything is fast and smooth and it has never overheated.

I mainly got this Desktop to replace my old laptop. So far, it's been extremely reliable and fast. I use it to edit videos and multi-task with multiple tabs open.
