After careful research, I decided to purchase this HP printer, as both my PC and Laptop are HP. It was delivered to my home with care and on time. It was super easy to unpackage and set up. The app was very easy to download from the Play Store and even easier to use. I love the ink tank feature. The cartridges for my old, cheap printer were very expensive and didn't last as long as I thought they should. My HP Smart Tank 5001 prints perfectly from my phone, my laptop, and my PC. It prints, copies, and scans flawlessly. It is very quiet while operating. It fits perfectly under my desk in my very small home office. I even purchased a printer stand to get it up off the floor and for easier reach. I am anticipating years of trouble-free service from this printer.

I've been using the HP Smart Tank 5001 for a couple of weeks now, and I'm impressed by the simplicity of this printer. The standout feature of this printer is the ink system—the printer takes large quantities of ink and uses a clever bottle system that allows you to fill the tanks without spilling a drop. Based on the amount of ink included with the printer, I don't expect to be buying more anytime soon. Setup is easy and it's no-frills. Take the printer out of the box, take off a minimal amount of packing tape, cardboard shipping supports, and the plastic piece that protects the slots for the printheads, and plug it in. From there, I used the HP app on my phone to begin configuration. The HP app walks you through the entire initial setup, including connecting to Wi-Fi, filling the ink tanks, and installing the printheads. All in all, it took about 10 minutes from opening the box to printing the first page. One thing that I really appreciated was the ability to use the printer without setting up an HP account or connecting it to any online subscription services. Once connected to Wi-Fi, all of our devices were able to see and print to the printer without any special setup. We have printed from our Macs, Windows 11 PCs, and iOS devices without the need for downloads or complicated driver installs. Print quality is very good. We're long past the days of counting pixels on a typical inkjet printer, and for everyday printing this machine does a great job. My wife printed a large number of color pages to laminate for her classroom, and the colors were vibrant on both plain paper and cardstock. Even after all of her classroom preparation, we couldn't see a noticeable decrease in the ink levels, which are conveniently visible through the tanks on the front of the printer. I also looked into the cost of consumables for the future, and they're very reasonably priced. Replacement bottles of black and color ink, as well as replacement printheads, are all priced around $23–$25 MSRP each. HP states that the included ink can last around three years with average printing volume, and based on how little ink we've used so far, that seems entirely plausible. All in all, if you're looking for a straightforward, no-frills printer with low running costs and an enormous supply of ink, the HP Smart Tank 5001 should be near the top of your list.

I've used a number of HP printers, and more often than not, they're frustrating enough for me to simply despise them. The ink cartridges dry quickly, the setup is a hassle, the HP software on your computer is required to do even the most basic things with the printer, and even with a slew of neat features, the user experience is so dismal that I think of the printer as worthless. I'm saying all of this to illustrate that this printer, while tarnished by a few flaws, is objectively just a solid printer in every way that matters. To start with, the setup. It's a little involved, as most printer setups are wont to be, but it's straightforward. Take out the cardboard inserts, plug it in, pour in the ink, all of that. But the important thing is that the guide simply tells you how to do this. You don't HAVE to install the HP app to set it up, you can just follow the instructions and have a printer that works out of the box. This is the bare minimum, but the fact that no software is mandatory to set it up is a breath of fresh air. Once you've gotten through setup, you've got a few options. You can set up the printer and connect it to your wifi, use Wifi Direct to print without a direct connection to wifi (more on that later), or plug it directly into your computer using a USB type B cable, which is notably not included. I happen to have a couple, but alas, my printer and computer are not very close together, so it's not viable for me. I tried to set up with Wifi Direct. It's advertised as a way to set up your printer for wireless prints without needing to link it directly to your network. The printout it creates when you've set it up explains how to do it. I still needed to install the HP software to do this, unfortunately. In the past, I've used it on Windows, and good lord, was it awful. This time, I installed it on my Mac, and the experience was, at least on the surface, much simpler. Here's where the printer lost a 5 star rating for me. The instructions tell you do to a few combined button presses on the printer, and it prints pages with instructions. Neat. But the instructions didn't work properly for me. It said I needed to connect the computer to a local wifi signal broadcast by the router itself (which I was able to find easily), and enter a given password once prompted. I was never prompted to do so. I tried on the HP app, and it just threw some error code that had no definite fix, from research. It got information about the printer from this connection (ink levels, setup status, etc.), but I couldn't actually complete setup or attempt to print anything. I looked over the instructions to see if I missed anything, but I couldn't find anything in particular I did wrong. I opted, instead, to just connect it to my wifi, because it doesn't really matter all that much at this point, and I had something I needed to print. I had to "forget" the printer on the app, then go through setup from scratch, and then all would be good, right? Not quite. It tried to connect to my wifi and failed, throwing another vague error code with no definite fix. It explained separately, however, that it's because it needed a 2.4ghz wifi signal, and mine was 6. I connected it to my 2.4ghz signal, and setup was complete. I want to talk a little more about the app, because at least on the MacOS version, it's genuinely pretty nice. First and foremost, you don't need to make an account. It tries to get you to make one, but you can just opt to sign in as a guest. You'll still be able to perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, see ink levels, all that stuff, without needing to sign in. I'm a little annoyed that I need to install separate software to access all of that stuff, but really, printers have pretty much always needed software in some capacity to work, and it's just a draw of using a printer. The software isn't intrusive. It asks for permissions for the things it needs and gives reasons why it needs them - network to connect to the printer, bluetooth to detect it, things like that. I still tense up a little at having to accept those, but again, it's just a draw of using a wireless printer. Now, the ink. To start with, I was a bit worried during setup that it would leak everywhere, and I'd have to be super careful to prevent a mess. My worries were proven pointless. The system is designed to prevent that - the way the bottle connects to the ink refill slots is by pushing the bottle onto a nozzle thing that allows the ink to drain, but once you pull it off, there's not even a drop of ink extra that comes out. Additionally, when the tank is full, if you have more ink in the bottle, it just stops filling. It couldn't be simpler, and I genuinely appreciate that design a lot. The nice thing is that you're left with about half of the black bottle remaining of ink. The color bottles have a little bit of ink remaining, but not enough to feel like it's a massive waste. I'll mention, also, the convenience of refills. Since it's not a cartridge based system anymore, you can simply buy 3rd party refills that cost a fraction of what the OEM brand does, without needing to worry about the printer telling you to buy an official HP cartridge. Now, the quality of those third party brands of ink can vary, but the fact that it's an option at all is very nice. The HP brand ink bottles aren't as egregious as the cartridges, and because you can opt to only buy the colors you actually need, you don't need to spend as much upfront as often if you run out. Gone are the days where the whole color cartridge is bad because you're out of magenta. You can just buy a new bottle, from HP directly, for twenty bucks. I have been very pleasantly surprised by this printer. The print quality is good, the scans are good, the ink is user friendly. I don't know how long the ink will stay liquid. I worry that over time, it will dry out, like the cartridges, but I imagine that the system is designed to prevent that, since the whole printer would be useless if there wasn't an easy way to fix it. Only time will tell. But for the moment, I can say that I would confidently recommend this printer to people who don't want to deal with ink cartridges anymore.

In contemplating the purchase of a new printer, I would not, under any circumstances, consider a printer that uses an ink cartridge. Since larger ink-capacity tank printers arrived on the scene, they have blasted the prospects of using cartridge-based systems to smithereens. Cartridges, even when delivered on a silver platter in a subscription delivery scenario, are still way more expensive, create more pollution, waste ink with every installation and inefficient cleaning and are ridiculously inconvenient compared to tank solutions. So, it’s a good thing this new Smart Tank 5001 is a tank printer and that it comes with a bonus single-page scanner which ekes it into the all-in-one category. Unfortunately, it is only capable of single-sided automatic printing and manually placing one page at a time for scanning. But that’s what you are paying for, and that’s what you get. If that’s what you need, then this may work for you. Let’s dig in. Packaging is pretty pedestrian, a rectangular product in a rectangular box that is easy to open and setup, nothing fancy. Check around for all the blue color tape holding various internal and external packing materials in place for transport, and remove them. The printer saves storage space by using foldable paper supports for the paper that is going both into and out of the printer. In addition to the printer, there is a setup guide, reference guide, warranty statement, company notices, non-wall-wart power cord, three 50 ml bottles of colored ink and one bottle of 135 ml black ink in the box. In addition, there are two print heads, one for the black and the other for the three remaining colors. Having easily removable print heads might be a distinct advantage over printers that don’t have that feature, in that a severely clogged print head might be the difference between recycling a printer far before its time and getting one back on its way with a reasonable cost, self-enabled fix. For setup, the guided procedure from HP’s associated app/driver handles all the steps admirably. Installing the ink, printer heads, paper and then printing out a test sheet that after being scanned, completes an alignment that makes for a thoroughly tested and calibrated ecosystem of printing, scanning and copying. Regarding specifications that include numerous disclaimers, the printer is said to yield about 12 ppm in black and about 5 ppm for color. The duty cycle maximum is about 3,000 letter-type pages per month but not continuously from month to month. HP however, recommends only about 400 to 800 pages per month, which probably is within most people’s at-home needs. The ink included in the bottles is claimed to be what is required for printing for about 3 years. The connections include a high-speed USB 2.0 port, 2.4G Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct. The paper handling is listed as having a 100-sheet input tray and a 30-sheet output tray. Scanning resolution is up to 1200 dpi and 24-bit depth. When using the copy function, the resolution is limited to 600 dpi. After printing on plain paper and HP-branded photo paper, I cannot find any faults with printing quality that would be of any concern, especially at this price point. The plain paper printed as expected with slightly muted colors and vibrancy whereas the photo paper popped, as expected in comparison. The noise level while printing was reasonable and as expected for a printer of this price and capability. All-in-all I would say this printer is a very good return on investment, especially considering that there is no need for frequent and expensive cartridge usage. I’ve purchased HP cartridge-based printers in the past that cost literally a few dollars and just like free or low-cost razer handles, it’s the blades or the cartridges where the money is made to yield the profit required to justify the whole process. It’s just that who wants to constantly run to the store or the mailbox to wait for your next cartridge to print that thing that has to be printed by tomorrow? Make no mistake that this printer has basic functions and not a lot of frills. But if that’s all you need and you don’t print all that often, then this will probably work well for you. Just keep in mind that you need to print now-and-then to keep the ink from drying out and clogging. Also, when comparing prices of ink tank-style printers to cartridge-using units, don’t be fooled by the lower initial cost of the latter, it will exceed or meet the cost of the tanker with probably the first few cartridge replacements. HP products in my personal experience have always been high quality and very long lasting and worthwhile investments.

In a world of ever-more-complicated technology, HP delivers an easy-to-use AIO. HP claims the Smart Tank 5001, which uses refillable tanks in lieu of traditional cartridges, is provided with enough ink for up to 3 years of printing (6,000 color/6,000 black pages). It's delivered with 3 equal-sized color bottles (cyan/magenta/yellow) and one larger black bottle. The set-up via the app is very well done, though I had a bit of a challenge understanding how much pressure to place on the bottles when filling the tanks. Once I figured out they can take a bit of pressure, the task was done very quickly. Not much longer than filling an F1 car. (Ok, longer than that, but you get the idea!) I found it very easy to connect to my WiFi network and I love that it easily reconnects when turned off and even unplugged and restarted. Due to a very small LCD screen on the printer, as well as a few flush "buttons" the majority of the set-up and future control is via the HP Smart App available for free for your phone, tablet or computer. I love that the app consolidates control of all of my HP printers at both office and my home. It shows status for connectivity and ink, as well as is the interface for printing, scanning, copying and saving. There are other features customized for photos, "printables" and mobile fax for the 5001. I found printing speed to be tolerable, matching the promised 10ppm black and 5ppm color. It's pretty quiet too. Quality was good. Not amazing, but likely more than sufficient for home and small business use. I'm an architect and photographer. For drawings, the resolution is quite good. Photos and hi-res graphics fare from fair-to-very good depending on the media used. It's not pro-quality though. Good for cards, menu updates, flyers, etc. Other features from the app- scan from the 5001 or your mobile device and print on the 5001. Also you can save scans to HP cloud or your own services. Minor notes that I didn't get to explore: If you don't have WiFi, there is still the USB-printer cable connection available (cable not included), but no ethernet. I was intrigued by the Mobile Fax option, but realized I don't know anyone with a fax anymore!

HP SmartTank 5001 printer bears a sleek and minimalistic design. The package includes liquid ink that needed to be filled in the onboard tanks. Hp claims it is worth up-to 3 years, depending on the standard use. The color ink is just enough for one tank while the black ink is extra and can be refilled again. Build quality: I like to slaty gray color and minimalistic design. It has only printer cable port and no ethernet connection, no USB port, WIFI connection is inbuilt and should enable this printer for wifi connectivity and network printing – IF WIFI WORKS, (I am coming to that one later in the review). The set process was real pain. The setup was through hp smart app and through wifi option. I have owned hp smart printer in the past and was expecting a smooth setup process but that was not the case. I tried several times and every possible option to troubleshoot the connection/setup process for wifi but everything FAILED. I contacted the hp support their engineer also tried using remote login my mac to setup this printer using hp smart app but it was failed to set up, we tried using phone setup- failed. What surprises me that even the USB connection set-up suing hp-smart app failed. The hp engineer concluded that the printer wifi chip or whole connection module was faulty and they offered a replacement. Letar on I again tried using USB cable but using the mac system dialogue to add printer. It worked and the printer was set up, but note here it is still not recognized in the hp smart app still, and the wifi is not working. My conclusion is that based on my experience that the issue was with both the printer wifi and the hp smart app to set up the printer. Print quality is good and it takes straight feed and good for photo printer which I like the most. The printer lacks inbuilt double sided print option. Paper loading is on the back and print comes out from front. Both loading and print trays can be folded – a cool feature. The scanner scans quality is crisp – I am still using mac system dialogue for the printing and scanning. Since this printer was not recognized in the hp smart app, I am unable to comment on those features. Overall, I like the minimalist design and good quality print and scan. I wish hp has added an ethernet port. As the sleek size does not permit it to have double sided printing feature and copy feed. I believe the unit I receive was faulty one for wifi connectivity or may be a firmware update is needed. If this issue is resolved, then I can recommend tis printer.

I’ve been really impressed with the HP Smart Tank 5001 Wireless All-in-One printer so far. Setup is refreshingly simple — the kind of quick, guided process that doesn’t leave you hunting for extra steps — and once it’s on Wi‑Fi, it stays connected. Printing from my phone and other devices has been smooth and reliable. Print quality is where this model punches above its price. On good matte or glossy paper, colors look clean and well-balanced, and everyday documents come out crisp. It even handles photos and artwork better than most budget‑friendly all-in-ones. The refillable ink tanks are the real gamechanger. I print a lot, and not having to buy expensive cartridges feels like a huge cost saver. The printer runs quietly, doesn’t hog desk space, and fits easily into a home office setup. It’s not the fastest printer out there, but for normal home use, the speed is perfectly fine. I’ve never felt slowed down by it. Overall, the Smart Tank 5001 delivers strong print quality, ultralow ink costs, and dependable wireless performance, making it a great value for anyone who wants reliable printing without the ongoing expense. Pros: Refillable ink tanks — extremely low long-term printing costs Strong color quality on matte and glossy paper Reliable wireless printing from phones and devices Quiet operation and compact footprint Great for photos and artwork at this price point Cons: Print speed is average — not ideal for high-volume, fast‑turnaround jobs. Best results require quality paper for photo-level output. Conclusion: The HP Smart Tank 5001 stands out as a dependable, cost‑efficient home printer that delivers better‑than‑expected color output and rock-solid wireless performance. Its refillable ink system is the star of the show, dramatically reducing long‑term printing costs while keeping maintenance simple. Recommendation: If you want a printer that’s easy to use, affordable to maintain, and capable of producing high-quality prints, the Smart Tank 5001 is an excellent choice. It’s ideal for home offices, families, students, and anyone tired of overspending on ink. For everyday printing with occasional photo or artwork needs, it’s one of the strongest values in its class.

I recently had the chance to use the HP Smart Tank 5001 for work tasks around the house. It is a very reliable machine especially when I have multiple print jobs. The best feature is the ink tank system. Compared to all of the traditional cartridges (that have dried up on me in the past or require a wasteful "cleaning cycle"), I can see the ink clearly on the front. After a month, I haven't had any issues at all. Because they provide bottles of ink in the box, when I eventually will need a refill, it's ready to go. The wireless connectivity and setup made connecting my laptop super easy. I was able to start printing without too many issues. There are some setup quirks, but once I selected the correct printer, everything was up and running. Then I poured in the ink, loaded the paper and I was ready to go. The print quality is very sharp and clean for both text heavy reports and multi-colored graphical slides. Again, the ability to see the ink window while I'm printing removes my concerns that I might be running low on ink and when (and if) I need to buy more. Being able to work from home, and having the ability to print my projects and reports without going into the office, has saved me a great deal of time and gas money. Great all around printer for all purposes.

This HP SMART TANK 5001 ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER has beautiful quality printing! The large ink tank reservoirs are great and I will be able to print so much before I need to buy ink refills. I really like being able to buy only the ink needed at a time. Filling the ink reservoirs at the start was easy to do. I wanted to start out with a positive point, as set up was a nightmare! I followed all of the instructions, downloaded the app, followed all instructions in the app and set up failed so many times. It took about an hour to get it to finally work and print anything. I specifically wanted a printer to be wireless and not need a computer as I rarely use a computer anymore. I was able to eventually get the HP SMART TANK 5001 ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER to connect to my network by plugging it into my iMac. It now works on my network wirelessly. It is not a compact printer and takes up a large footprint on the computer desk. Although set up to be wireless was a challenge and hope it was a fluke for me. I do find the overall print quality to be really great. Plain text is clear and sharp, photos match the color I see on screen and look incredible. I love the individual reservoir tanks, the print quality, ability to scan photos and make copies. The HP SMART TANK 5001 ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER is a great quality printer

I’m very happy with this HP Smart Tank printer. The print quality is sharp for both documents and color prints, and the wireless setup was quick and easy. The refillable ink tanks are a huge advantage because they last a long time and are much more economical than traditional cartridges. Printing from my phone and laptop has been seamless, and the scanner and copier work great as well. Overall, this is an excellent all-in-one printer for home or small office use. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, cost-effective printer.

I do loves me some HP products, as I'm sure you do, too. For the simple fact that the brand is just reliable. The PCs are top tier, for the most part, their monitors are pretty great, as well. And, of course, the reason that we are all here. Those lovely printers, that just makes life so much easier, with their print from anywhere features and Bluetooth printing from your smart phones and other mobile devices( tablets, etc.). There's a printer for just about every need you could possibly think of, from documents, photos. Heck! Even tee shirts. We just love them. So, why did you just come across that rating, up there? Well, let me just put it out there. This is a firm case of doing too much and not enough, at the same time. I really like the Smart Tank 5001, for the massive amount of ink it can hold and distribute, as I'm sure that that's the reason you're looking at it. Oh, it has you covered with ink. There's 4 big bottles of ink that need to be poured into the reservoirs, plus there are two cartridges that need to be installed. You're more than good there. Plus, I recommend getting one of the Instant Ink plans. They're gonna save you a lot , in the long-run. Set-up wasn't as seamless as I would've hoped as I couldn't set it up on my smart phone, even though it does give that as an option. That may be fixed in an update, also. Then there's the fact that the system recognizes it as a 5100 series printer, so don't let that throw you off, like it did me. Remember to follow the instructions and get all of the tape and paper/cardboard out of the way, before putting ink in the tanks. Now, I can say that once I got it set up, I was able to print from my phone. We're good there. But my biggest problem that I just can't let go of, is the paper tray. It's in the back of the printer and it only holds about 20 sheets. This is a Smart Tank printer, with lakes of ink, but this isn't designed for heavy workloads. What gives, HP? For the most part, it's just in the way, but not. It's not a big machine, but it's also bulky enough to be in the way. It's a good printer, as long as you know what you're getting. I just wish it had a larger paper tray. I'm not mad. I’m just disappointed, HP. Let's do better next time. Can we?
