Nice, compact and powerful computer that is a great accessory to the Dremel 3d printer. The touch pad and 3d builder software is very useful and straightforward.

The commercial makes the product sound totally legit and urged me to buy it ASAP, here is my experiment with 26 days with Sprout ( Opinion based ):
Pros:
_Look fantastic, futuristic design, look very high end especially when it's not widely advertised.
_Great audio system ( Pretty surprising ).
_Aswesome desklamp ( Pretty hidden and this is one of the best features of the product )
_Projector creates great quality.
_Sturdy design.
_The price is high but worth for the features ( Touch mat, projector, pen, touch screen, and illuminate light )
Cons:
_EXTREMELY space intruding ( Seriously the computer already thick plus the mat it's impossible to fit it to a normal desk, especially there is barely any desk with a keyboard slider that can fit the PC. The package is so heavy and big as a bathtub )
_The 2D scan quality is not as good, 3d scan is impossible even with a 3D capture stage.
_Obsolete graphic card ( Modified model from 2013 ).
_So many bugs and glitches.
_Touch mat at the beginning can be inconsistent sometimes.
_Software that modified exclusively for projector and touch mat is in very early phase.
_Very confusing projector setting.
_Take 1-hour minimum to setup and 2 days at least to get all the software and master all the settings and know what I'm doing.
_Can't upgrade graphic card.
Everyone who saw the commercial will immediately think that there'd be a ton of possibilities with the projector. But after purchasing the product, I can't think of anything to do with the projector. The exclusive apps are pretty much kid oriented ( Coloring, drawing, play piano ). They get boring pretty soon after and there are like less than 20 apps on the market. The only thing I can think of is multitasking like watch video and edit things at the mean time but you must have a keyboard slider so it won't be in the projector display ( However I can't find any desk with a keyboard slider that can fit the gigantic size of the PC + touch mat) so the only viable function is not possible here.
So I tried to edit images and video on the touch mat. The first problem, the image projected is slightly faded, result in incorrect color ( Can't be used for media editing ). And the second problem is using touch on the mat is so inconvenient, imprecise ( Mistouch )and tire your arms after a short time of usage, and keyboard will do the job much faster with ease.
Trust me, as much as I love the PC but I had to return it to the store ( The staffs at my store were pretty rude and uncomfortable despite I'm Elite Plus, except for 1 named Tyler, he's cool) because there is no use for the secondary display. The return process included repackaging and check-in and out was impractical and slow. I exchanged Sprout to a laptop with the same price instead.
If you want to buy the PC, make sure that:
_You have a big enough desk, please measure carefully since the model isn't displayed at the store and you have to order it, a keyboard slider is HIGHLY recommended.
_Make sure that you'll be using the secondary display.
Who'll be buying the PC:
_School or education organization, the second display with the projector is fantastic for educating, very easy and fun to interact. The anatomy and origami apps are fantastic for teaching.
_Company for info display and reception services.
_Parents with kids.
_People with disposable income.
Thank for the innovation from HP, I hope the product will be improved and become mainstream and make me come back for the next model. This will be how the future PC'd look like I believe.

I really like this computer, and I'm not a Windows fan by any stretch. First, let me say the con to it is that HP decided to build their own software into Windows. While this gives it some of the great features it has with the 3D rendering, it also stops you from installing some programs (hence, the loss of one star in the rating). I needed a 3D program that can be downloaded on any other machine, but Sprout says to download it from the HP Marketplace. That would be fine if it were IN the marketplace. That sucks. Also, the touch panel and Sprout software quit working the next day. I used the built-in HP Support program to connect with support and found a different way to run updates. Apparently, the last update borked the system. Did a system restore and ran the updates through the HP program instead of the Windows option and all is well with the world again.
On the upside, this machine does a great job with 3D scanning and rendering. It's a great device for artistic folks to create and edit content. As a normal, every day desktop, it would be a waste of machine. I paired mine with the Dremel 3D printer. Does a decent job. Pairing it with the MakerBot Replicator next. I expect it to do a better job of printing.

I bought this as a way to get into 3D printing and for general computing and gaming use. It does all three admirably but is best with 3D scanning and design. I did have a problem with my machine but HP replaced it quickly and efficiently and I have not had a problem since. Do get the best warranty you can afford since this is not a machine that your local computer repair person will likely be able to fix. You will need to get the touch pad cover and the 3D scanner stage so be prepared to buy these as well if you get this computer.

The first one that shipped came DOA, but the second one works perfectly. Nice selection of creative programs, both free and pay to play. So far it meets all my needs. The scanner works well. The pressure touch for the stylus is a bit finicky, but not a big issue.

HP has the opportunity to raise personal computing to a new level with this product. It holds great promise for Artists, Engineers, Hobbyists and Educators. It's biggest drawback is its dependence on the Windows operating system. This is a new and potentially powerful concept that needs its own dedicated operating system and operational interface. It shouldn't be just another Windows Application. This PC should not be competing with the Windows 10 world. It is a tool which is best suited to certain types of tasks. Its software needs to be focused for those uses.
As a general purpose PC there are many Windows alternatives that perform the same tasks as well or better at half the price. HP is known for their printers, but also for their excellent testing equipment and advanced calculators. The Sprout , likewise is a specialized computer design and should not try to be all things to all people.
As a general purpose Windows PC it becomes just a very expensive "Me too" product. I returned my Sprout. I liked the hardware and the concept, but IMHO its potential is wasted as a Windows application.
It has improved somewhat since I first noticed it a few years ago, but as yet it is not ready for prime time. Keep an eye on it though because if HP can get its act together on the software they have a product that potentially could be the next wave in specialized and small business computing.

Beware of buying a last year Sprout

When buying a noname PC they say you bought what you paid for. Sprouts from HP sold at BestBuy may have stayed in storage for a while and dried up and do not live up to their brand name and product specification. The HP Sprout I bought came with Windows 8 rather than the Windows 10 stated on the product specification on BestBuy.com and the folio used to protect it from scratches has bonded with the unit, the tape supposed to take the folio off has disintegrated leaving unsightly glue spots …I would not recommend it to my enemy.

The hp sprout is definitely a shinny toy for anyone who has disposable income. The all in one computer it is not. The clutter free desktop Hp promises is a joke when you have use a external cd/dvd drive. This is very frustrating when the sprout aready takes up alot of desk space. The kids apps are functional at best. This has become my worst tech purchase in years. I feel like a fool for believing all of the positive reviews. Don't make the same mistake.
