I originally looked at some soundbar options that supported Atmos and future DTS X support. What I found either had simulated surround or a wireless option. Either option was expensive. No wireless option on this one. So you will need to run wires to all speakers. If this isn't an option for you and your situation you might want look at another option. I'm not an audiophile by any stretch but to my ears this sounds amazing. Sounds good with TV, Music, and especially movies. It gets plenty loud without distorting the audio. Other systems I've had in the past I would have to turn on closed captioning because the dialogue suffered against the sound effects. This isn't the case with this system. The dialogue sounds clear at any volume. The receiver itself has just about any connections you could possibly need. The only negative I can really see is the sub. I would much rather the sub be powered all the time when the system is powered on. If it doesn't detect any lows for a while the sub goes into standby and it seems to take a second for it to fire back up once it detects the signal again. The good news is if this is a deal breaker you can always replace the sub.

OK, so I know it's a bit of an overkill, but I recently purchased an LG OLED TV to replace a rather old and failing bedroom set, and I figured that I'd upgrade the sound system at the same time, in order to support 4K, Dolby Atmos and HDR. I chose the S7800, and I have no regrets. The system arrived in one (very large) box, but was relatively easy to unpack and set up. (I did however need help in moving the box inside.) The on-screen menus are relatively straightforward, and although I'm a "tinkerer', I found that I really didn't have to make too many adjustments. Using the included calibration microphone, the system pretty much adjusted itself. I did however have make a few more level tweaks to suit my personal taste. I also took the time to rename the inputs so that they better describe my source devices. The remote is simple, albeit perhaps a bit basic, but it does the job. The lack of backlighting makes it a bit difficult to see in a darkened room.. Also, as others have noted, the included speaker wire is a bit thin so before my unit even arrived, I purchased 14AWG speaker wire to accommodate longer runs. From a sound perspective, the Onyko S7800 delivers crisp, clear, rich sound, with excellent (Dolby) separation. The powered subwoofer has a down-firing element that provides that "punch". However, I'm still trying to make adjustments because there are times that I wish the bass was a bit deeper. Overall though, it's very acceptable. As for the speakers, they too seem to be well built and produce good sound. It wasn't as convenient for me to hang them on the wall, so I purchased stands for both the fronts and the rear satellites in order to raise them to a proper ear level. One thing I should note about Dolby Atmos, the two front speakers have separate up-firing cones on the top of them to serve as the Atmos "height" speakers. The idea is that they are supposed to reflect sound off of the ceiling and back down, giving the illusion of sound coming from above. In theory that works but in practice, it doesn't produce the same full Atmos effect as experienced when you have actually installed speakers in the ceiling. (Unfortunately, I'm one of those who can't justify the time and expense to install ceiling speakers ... especially in a bedroom.) The problem with the up-firing technology is that (at least in my case), despite raising the height of my front speakers as much as possible (without making them too high to serve as front speakers), my ear is still able to directly hear sound emanating from the top cones, as opposed to hearing only the sound being bounced off the ceiling. That sort of kills some of the Atmos effect. One other observation concerns Dolby Vision. My new TV supports Dolby vision. Although the S7800's receiver does seemingly have the necessary hardware specs to support DV pass-through, it won't necessarily do so (even when more DV sources are available). That's because (as I understand it), there would have to be a firmware upgrade in order to allow Dolby Vision to even pass through the receiver, and nowhere have I seen Onkyo make any claims that DV is, or will be, supported by this system. If your eventual plans are to use this with a 4K system and have a Dolby Vision capable Blu-Ray player, you may not be able to pass that signal through this particular Onkyo model. So if DV pass-through is important to you, it might be best to look some of the other 2017 receivers that *are* promising DV support. Overall, this is an excellent unit. I highly recommend it.

This is a good beginner surround system. Only thing I wish was better was the sub. I really wish it was always on. By that I mean it clicks on when it detects bass. So there is a bit of a delay when the sound occurs and when the sub actually clicks on and fires. I wish this would be fixed in a firmware update. Don't now what possessed them to do this? Not sure if it's to save on power or what?

After reading reviews. This system seemed a good choice. Its an in box system. Easy to setup and sounds great out of the box. The only thing I changed was the speaker wire. What comes in the box is really really really small. The receiver is future proof for a little while anyways.

A nice entry level Atmos system. It can be annoying getting used to the receiver taking control, changing the audio and video input and output without regard of what you are physically trying to do! The sub woofer is a little "muddy" sounding especially at louder volumes. I used Atlantic Technology SR154's for ceiling Atmos speakers. And I replaced the sub with an SVS SB12-NSD 400watt acoustic suspension sub woofer. Now I am much happier with the sound this system puts out!
