Hunt for the Wilderpeople is one of the best films of 2016. It received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and extremely good word of mouth from average viewers. It is a perfect example of the sleeper hit, a film that was largely ignored upon its initial release, but is likely to develop a loyal following in the years to come. No description could truly do the film justice, so you owe it to yourself to watch it regardless of any preconceived notions. To me, the thing that makes it special is that it marries the kind of ridiculous absurdist comedy of the director's previous work with Flight of the Conchords and in What We Do in the Shadows with grounded, affecting, human drama. At any given moment, I might be laughing uproariously at something that would be more at home in a cartoon and then, quite suddenly, I would feel some tears welling up as I felt deep affection for thew characters. That's a unique balance and I'm still not quite sure how it was attained. It's unfortunate that a film this good and with a strong visual style received only an official DVD release with the Blu-ray being generated on demand with questionable quality. Regardless, it's a great film; one most would be happy to own and share with unsuspecting friends and family.

This heartfelt and hilarious film from writer-director Taika Waititi (What We Do In the Shadows) is a caper flick in family dramedy clothing. The story starts with foster kid Ricky getting a new family but, after a few unexpected turns, finds Ricky and his new foster dad on the lam being hunted down by Social Services. Next up for Waititi is Thor: Ragnarok. Suddenly the third Thor film is something to truly look forward to.

So many movies are either cartoons for young kids or they are just to "mature " for kids, but this movie was perfect for my 12 year old grandkids. It kept their attention 100% We were all pleasantly surprised. It's not for young kids but great tween-age tale.

One of the funniest movies I've seen this past year. Director Taika Waititi WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, another one of my all time favorites is one to watch out for! The cast is great and the story is sad, funny, and touching. A real gem of a film!

Sam Neill and Julian Dennison strike up a great father/grump uncle and foster kid on the run relationship. The setting is beautifully shot and the dry British/New Zealand-esqe humor always seems to land. The filming feels similar to a Wes Anderson or Edgar Wright type movie...which is mere perfection for me.

Great story! Great acting! Great humor! One of the best movies of 2016. This should have been a big hit but sadly only showed in small boutique theaters. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Your average movie watcher, meaning a film or two a month will rant and rave about how great this film is, now take it from a guy who has a disabled individual watch is 3 to 5 movies per day there is really a whole lot of nothing special here yet there is enough interesting plot and decent character interaction with mild talent directorial, and a budget blown on what they thought was a top-tier cinematographer to keep you watching semi entertained from start to finish neither loving nor hating this movie. Thank God for Best Buy.com's price match guarantee that way no matter how you feel about this movie you won't feel like it broke the bank and that in itself probably will add some watchable value to those not fully digging this premise and for others it will make it the value movie purchase of the year so at the end of the day thanks to Best Buy we all win, I just wish that this film for me was a win in more ways.

I have purchased this movie time and again for my close friends as presents, this is such an outstanding movie, a must watch for anyone.

This movie provides plenty of entertainment for the family! A must see for action and humor.

Small unheard of movie, at least to me and it was very entertaining and funny. A good family movie. I'd recommend it.
