High Quality Compression Therapy at Home

Hyperice has been around for a while now and is obviously one of the leaders in this field. This is my first Hyperice device - I got this because as an over 50 fairly active male, I have to do all I can to keep my body healthy and mobile. I have seen air compression devices like these being used at Physical Therapy offices a lot so they obviously have their value in pain relief and muscle recovery and Hyperice is known to make medical grade equipment. I wanted to have something I could use on a regular basis since the hip area is so important to overall body health and mobility.
The Hyperice Normatec Elite Hips device is one of the first of its kind so far as I am aware in that it specifically targets your entire hip area while including your lower back, glutes, and even thighs AND it's completely portable and cord free! This "machine" is extremely well-made. From all the materials on the outside to the way the air flows, fills, and empties on the inside, you can tell they really made sure to use high quality materials. I have no doubt that this will last a very long time.
The design is also excellent. It's super easy to slip this on (kinda feels like you're putting on baggy stiff shorts) and get it running. I'm a thinner guy with super skinny legs and was a little curious if I'd have to use the highest compression level to feel anything. But that was not the case at all. By level 3 I could feel some compression and I settled on level 5 for now as my max point. But good to know I could still go up two more levels before reaching the highest compression available. Hyperice did a great job making this a one-size-fits-all model that I can see will truly work for almost any sized person.
The mechanism that controls the Hips Compression is built into the front right. It's at a perfect position to make it super easy to use. The display is bright and meant to be read while wearing and the buttons are simple and easy to use as well. The unit has a built-in battery so you charge it up and then you can use it for several hours before needing to charge it again. My one disappointment is that it charges with a special charger they included - I wish it was a standard USB-C charging port so I could easily charge it with any USB-C charger I have lying around and didn't have to worry about keeping up with their specific charging cord. This is my only complaint about the device.
What I really love is that the device also has bluetooth built into it and is easy to connect to from the Hyperice App on your phone. (The app can also hook into Apple Health.) Once connected you can fully control the device from your phone without having to use the physical controls except to power it on and off. The user interface for that is great and makes controlling and fine tuning your compression unit very simple.
As for the functionality of the compression itself, it's definitely on par with anything you'd find at a physical therapy office. I don't know how they designed this to work so well from just the small front control pack, but everything is super smooth. The fluctuating compression from different zones and the way the zones fill with air and empty is excellent. Compression is very uniform across the entire area being compressed at any point.
Overall, I really love the Normatec Elite Hips compression machine. It's well made, easy to use, and seems to work great for its purpose. I haven't had the device for a long time so it's impossible for me to speak to the long term effects, but from what I've experienced so far, I can definitely see incorporating the Normatec Elite Hips into my regular health regimen as an additional way to keep my hips, upper legs, and lower back happy and healthy.

Another great addition to the Hyperice/Normatec family. While I have the Normatec Elite Leg Sleeves, these allow you the mobility to move around if necessary.

Hyperice Normatec devices have become such a useful tool on my health and fitness journey in the past couple years. Having already owned the Normatec Go calf muscle massage system and knowing what a huge difference it can make, I was thrilled to continue the relief and recovery further up my legs in my hip and lower back area with the Normatec Elite Hips version. I use the Normatec Go on my calves nearly nightly as they live permanently on the side of my bed and get used before I go to sleep. Now using the hip model, my nighttime routine has gotten a little longer but it's been great! This year I hiked my first mountain and the training for it was no joke, and it helped me realize my legs although they have come a long way to be able to hike a mountain, they still have a long way to go. Going into this winter I made it a goal to increase my leg work outs and build leg muscles I would have once dreamed of having. Now a couple weeks into that journey, my hips are absolutely feeling it so Hyperice released their Elite Hip model at the perfect time. I was a little worried about how these would fit me and have steady pressure in all the beneficial places as I have fairly wide hips, but I have had zero issues with fitment, and they are very comfortable even when turned higher up in compression levels. They are also very easy to adjust if needed for a more comfortable fit. Very similar to the Go model on the calves, the Elite Hips have the impressive pulsing of pressurized air that moves through zones. Hyperice explains this as a mimic of natural muscle pumps and that is a very good description of that. I get massages monthly but something about this method that Hyperice has perfected, honestly leaves me feeling better than my massages sometimes. The difference in soreness before I run the device versus after is astounding, and I wish everyone could experience this kind of relief. I love that these have the option to focus on specific zones, or let it work through all the zones for the most coverage, and of course the seven different levels of compression are great. I tend to start at a lower level and work my way up to a stronger level as I work through a cycle. A huge plus is that this is a hoseless system and compacts down to a pretty streamlined system that is easy to travel with if needed. Hyperice really outdid themselves with these new Normatec Elite Hips and I continue to be a huge fan of them on my health and fitness journey.

As a former competitive bodybuilder and power lifter I can admit to having problems with my hips, lower back and legs. I can also happily attest to the effectiveness of the Hyperice-Normatec Elite Hip compression therapy device!!
In a word it WORKS! I use now it daily for 30 minutes at a time and it is wonderfully effective. I try to stay active in my "senior" years but it can be difficult and by the end of the day my hips, lower back and legs are quite often done. I simply put the Hyperice-Normatec Elite Hip device on my lower body taking care to have the pants ride high up my lower back, tighten the adjustable leggings and hit the "GO!) button and heave a sigh of physical relief!
The controls are so simple and the affect upon my lower back and hips is restorative! I use the #3 setting and set the timer for 30 minutes, get comfortable in my chair and either read a book or listen to music while the compression does its magic! I cannot recommend this wonderful device enough! My wife wants to use it too and tonight when she gets home from watching our grandchildren she will be watching her favorite TV show while wearing the Hyperice-Normatec Elite!
Again, I cannot recommend this enough. In my case it is a total game-changer for me as I feel so much better after a session with it. It takes some of the rust off my senior years, believe me! Highly recommend? You betcha!!!!

Tight Hips Reliever

I’ve been using the Normatec Elite Hips for a week now, and I have to say it targets the hip/pelvic area very well. Ten years ago I experienced a sports related injury to the IT band on my right leg, which over time caused habitual tightness around the hip-flexor region and outer thigh. I went to physical therapy for this inury for about 3 months. Ever since that infury 10 years ago, I have always needed to ensure I am keeping up with my strength exercises and stretching. Over time with work I have not been the best at doing either. I have used traditional compression boots, and they work extremely well for recovery, However compression boots don’t tend to hit the high-hip, glute, and IT band area very well. The Normatec Elite Hips, directly targets that region and it’s made a noticeable difference.
The targeted compression at the hip/IT-band/upper thigh results in attacking the hip flexors with direct pneumatic pressure. I could feel the pulses working around the glute/outer hip area—something standard boots simply don’t reach. After using the Normatec Elite Hips I could feel the relief of lingering tightness. I have a desk job where I sit a lot and I often felt that familiar “pull” around the outer thigh/hip that I’ve had since the injury. Using the device for 15-30 minutes in the evening markedly diminished that pull.
The quality of the Normatec Elite Hips is very good and it comes with a draw string carrying bag. You just need to make sure the device is charged up and you can use the Normatec Elite Hips anywhere. I wouldn’t shy aware from traveling with it either because the build quality is that good.
While the Normatec Elite Hips are very good at attacking the hip flexor region, it is no substitute for solid stretching and strengthening, it should be used to supplement these activities. You also need to adjust the placement of the device accordingly or risk an ineffective compression session. The only thing that would make this device better is if it had the heat and cooling technology that other compression devices are rolling out.

I was very skeptical of this Hyperice Normatec Elite Hip recovery tool at first. I already have a Hyperice Hypervolt that has been fantastic for massaging stiff or sore muscles. So I decided to add this to the collection and give it a shot.
I charged it full, read the instructions, adjusted the leg Velcro straps until the device was snug, then started a trial run. At first, all I felt was compression on my legs, not my hips at all. When I bumped up the compression level, I felt too much pressure on my things and no where near the same level on my hips. I tried it multiple times after a workout and felt like I wasn’t getting much out of it.
After a tough leg day workout followed by a run (I hate running and don’t do it much), my leg muscles were screaming. I’m over 40. Stuff aches more. I decided one last try with the Hyperice before giving up on it. Except this time I had the bright idea to loosen up the leg Velcro straps to see if more emphasis on my hips. Lo and behold, it finally worked! I felt much less muscle soreness after one session with the device, and I even fell asleep while it was running. The instructions don’t mention loosing the Velcro straps if the compression is uneven! But it’s a must to get the right balance between hips and legs.
I’m still not too sure it does much for my lower back, but for hip and thigh recovery, it’s amazing! Highly recommended.

Not just for Athletes!

I’ve had a bad back for a long time now, and I’ve been using Hyperice Venom 2 back for heat/massage, and if it’s a small pain, the venom works well. I saw that Hyperice had an Elite Hips compression product that lasts at least 4 hours?? I wanted to see if that worked any better, and the timing was pretty much perfect.
Last week I hurt my back more than usual, I knew I would have to have my doctor send several prescriptions to fix it - but the Elite Hips arrived the day after I hurt myself and have been using it daily while I recover (at day 5 now!).
Since I already had the Hyperice app, all I had to do was to turn on the Elite Hips (after charging) and was able to set the time, zone (Zone 1 hip, Zone 2 Lower back) and within a few seconds, the compression started going through its cycles on my hips/lower back. Like one of those blood pressure units at your local pharmacy, it quickly inflates. I started the intensity at 7, not because it's recommended, but as I said, I was in a lot of pain - so I figured the highest would help the most (maybe that's not the right way of thinking, but it worked!).
How do I know it’s working? After the first 30-minute session (standing), I was then able to walk with less pain than I had when I started it. On the 2nd day, I did a 60 minute session (lying down), and again, immediately after the session I was able to walk and turn my body around with less pain, including standing up from a sitting position/lying down position.
Although this is marketed more for athletes, I would say this is also a great product for people like me - non-athletes with bad lower backs! Or people with sensitive backs (also me!) We may not need it all the time, but it’s good to have around on the mornings we wake up with bad backs.
Lastly, the Elite Hips also comes with a convenient carrying case, including a separate pocket for the charger.

Great for Lower Back/Glute Tightness

I've really been enjoying this new hip compression tool from Hyperice. As someone who sits a lot during the day for work, I've been grabbing this on my lunch break and taking 30-40min to run a cycle and loosen things back up. It's been making a big difference in how I feel at the end of the workday!
Out of the box, setup is very simple and straightforward. The Hyperice app isn't necessarily needed, but it's helpful and easy to use. Connection is Bluetooth and it allows you to customize your sessions and control the unit without having to look down at the control module that's built in on the right thigh. That's another nice feature because it eliminates hoses laying all over and makes the entire unti more compact for travel.
You can adjust the intensity to your liking and assign target areas. There's a little trial and error as you find what's best for you, but the end result leaves you feeling fantastic.
Overall, my only wish would be for heat to be an option, but these do a great job as is. I'm sure athletes will use these more for recovery, but I can attest to the benefits for people who have desk jobs or drive a lot and have tight lower backs and glutes. I would absolutely recommend them.

Portable and Easy to Use

As I get older (in 70s), I find that I have more aches and pains. The pain is mostly in my knees, both hips, and lower back and can occur after a workout or at random. I have had injections to reduce the pain but these only seem to work temporarily. It is with this background that I approached the Hyperice Normatec Elite Hip.
In order for a device to be useful it must be inviting (easy to use) and effective. It does no good if the device is difficult to use and thus sits on the shelf.
The Hyperice Elite Hip uses compression therapy with seven levels of compression control along with an easy to use app, on device controls, and a flexible fit that accomodates a variety of body shapes to accomplish these goals. No external connections are required so that the Hyperice Elite Hip is essentially a standalone device that you can just pick up and use. A travel bag is even included for use on the go. Battery life is approximately 4 hours.
If you are having difficulties with your hips and lower back and are looking for a device that can potentially improve circulation, enhance mobility, and decrease pain, I recommend the Hyperice Normatec Elite Hip.

Decent Build, But Disappointing Results

I got the HyperIce Normatec Elite Hip hoping it would help with a tight IT band and sore glutes, but honestly it just didn’t deliver much in terms of relief. The build quality feels solid and it looks nice, but the performance wasn’t anywhere near what I was expecting given the price.
Right out of the box, I couldn’t get it added to the mobile app since the hip attachment still doesn’t show up there. I’ve checked twice in the past week and it’s still missing. Thankfully, you can use it without the app and it runs fine as a standalone device.
The battery life seems good. I used it for about twenty minutes and my wife used it for around twenty-five on the same charge. That’s a positive. Fit-wise, it’s actually pretty flexible. I’m not very big through the hips and had no problem sliding it on like a pair of shorts. My wife has a curvier shape and was able to fit into it easily by loosening the velcro straps. So in terms of size range, it’s well designed.
Where it falls short is the effectiveness. It inflates and deflates just like it should, but I didn’t feel much actual relief. My wife, who deals with really tight IT bands and thigh soreness from standing all day teaching, said it didn’t help her at all either. I cranked it up to the maximum intensity and still didn’t feel any noticeable loosening or deep compression on my glutes or IT band.
For comparison, the full leg Normatec sleeves feel significantly better and provide a clear recovery benefit after a workout. The hip version just doesn’t seem to deliver the same impact. It’s a great concept and looks sleek, but functionally it misses the mark.
If you already own the full leg system, this might be worth trying only for curiosity’s sake. Otherwise, I’d skip it. It’s hard to recommend something that doesn’t provide measurable relief, especially at this price point.
