Only complaint is the mastering. Video quality is unstable and poor but what a movie. Great neck snapping pace. Inspired the film "The Departed". Must own for film quality.

Infernal Affairs is a compelling crime drama that led to the American remake, The Departed. Some say that Infernal Affairs is the better movie despite the all the stars in The Departed.

Big fan of Asian movies and I wanted to see the movie that the departed was based on.

Hong Kong action gang films are about a dime a dozen with mediocrity for ages. And then came Infernal affairs. A high production value with top stars and edgy film style and realism. Its undeniable presence has spawned a slew of copycat films since. Its record sales and peoples thirst for more spawned off parts 2 and 3 (which arent as good) but most notably is Scorcese's version named "The Departed" I won't go into how they compare, but if you want to know where it all came from and what it was all about, this title will not disappoint anyone's collection.

I'm glad that with the success of "The Departed", people are starting to pick up Infernal Affairs. I thought "The Departed" was good but rarely re-makes are better than the original. Watch this movie and you will see what I mean.

Infernal Affairs is the original film that was later remade as the Departed. The original film is better than the popular remake.

Not what I thought it would be

I rented this movie from a video store after I heard that it was what the departed was based off of. Big mistake! If you are getting this movie because your thinking that it will be as good as the departed, save your money. This was a very short movie and everything seemed really smushed together. Also, the acting was just terrible. None of the characters played their parts well at all, none were believable. Another down point was how crummy the violence was. Instead of showing the person die (which is what I like to see in movies) never once happened. Instead, you'd just hear the person die and wonder how. The script was another downpoint to it, the actors didn't play the role correctly at all, they were always too relaxed. But you don't have to take my word for it, you'll see what I mean after you watch it. Don't buy this movie.
