This movie did a great job explaining the effects of deregulation and the other items that caused an economic downturn in 2008. I would recommend this movie to anyone that meets the appropriate age requirements

This film won the Oscar for Best Documentary for 2010 and once you view it, you will agree.
Matt Damon narrates on what caused the collapse of Wall Street back in 2008. Greedy banks pushed for deregulation which allowed them to gamble more money on the market than what they could afford. They increased the risks by accepting mortgages from homeowners who could ill afford paying the monthly mortgages just so they could make profits on the commissions on the processed loans. They then sold these bad loans to investment firms (retirement funds, pensions and unions) and insured them with AIG because they knew the loans were bad, making even more profits.
The whole scheme collapsed when the investment firms got wise to the banks crooked deals and no one could sell the bad loans to anyone so everyone took trillions in severe losses (wiping out pensions, retirement funds and investment firms, devaluing the overall housing market) and ended up with the government bailing them all out on our dime.
The ominous end shows that while President Obama wanted to reregulate the banks, the current majority in the Senate and House (who are sponsored by the banks) rejected the laws. Meanwhile, banks are pushing even for more deregulation to further their profits.
If at the end of this movie you are not disgusted and enraged on what caused our economy to tank and to cause our government to go into severe debt, you only have yourself to blame when this happens again...

Amazed.
Frightened.
Disheartened.
Frustrated.
Angry.
These are some of the emotions you will feel while viewing this film and upon reflection afterwards.
The worse part of it is: it's not over. The foxes are in charge of guarding the henhouse!! The architects and engineers of this financial heist have positioned themselves throughout our government, academia and industries to aid and abet the next one!!!
I don't know what we can do to save ourselves from these robber barons, but we're in deep, deep doo-doo.

Excellent movie. It's amazing that the US talks about corrupt politics in other countries. this is a rude awaking. we need regulations to put place to stop such corruption.

This video lays out the whole bloody mess we find ourselves in now with clarity and precision. It didn't happen overnight but was the result of a long process that started decades ago with dangerous men in charge who allowed greedy men to take advantage of the system and legally scam people out of their hard earned money as if it was not only their right to do so but in fact their duty because they could and you never give a sucker an even break.

Reflective to the current news trends of a corrupt and flawed US economic system has been deformed, the doc retells the crooked practices of banks that lead to the 2008 recession, bank collapses, and mortgage meltdown crises that could have been prevented with all anger and enlightenment. The image of seeing top US college professors upholding flawed economic policies that DON'T work all in the name of paid representation alone is worth a look.
