Many were counterfeit (being labeled as Prolific, but not infact Prolific). We went with the Best Buy name brand cord as a safe option, and have not been disappointed

This is now the go to adapter.

Even previous versions of this same type of device would not work with Windows 10, but this cable worked exactly as advertised with no fuss.
