Customers highly value the size, temperature control, and quiet operation of this 14-bottle wine cooler. Many appreciate its capacity and consider it a good value for the price. The attractive design, including the reversible door, also receives positive feedback. A common complaint is the lack of an interior light.

The Wine Cooler works well. I needed a replacement when my previous larger wine cooler stopped working. It is cooling the white wines and looks great in my living room. I’d like a light available in the cooler, but it doesn’t deter from the cooler’s quality and good appearance. Thank you.

Makes occasional popping sounds but that’s normal for the refrigerant. Compact size, well sealed, keeps temp fairly even. Excellent buy for the price.

Initially worked great. As time went on unit made considerably more noise. Had to move to another room. Bummer because we bought it to go on a kitchen countertop. We figured out it cost about 7.00-10.00 a month to operate.

I do not recommend buying the 'excellent' condition option, as there were some cosmetic issues. Thankfully, the customer service processed a refund for it. The communication was great, and their response was fast. Additionally, I experienced a popping noise every 5 to 10 minutes, which seemed unusual. If you experience this issue as well, consider seeking help.

Great Capacity and Quality for the Price

The Insignia 14-Bottle Wine Cooler is an excellent compact choice for wine enthusiasts who want to keep their wine at the perfect temperature. The cooler has a 14-bottle capacity and an adjustable thermostat that allows you to set the temperature using 3 temperature settings (between 41 degrees and 64 degrees). The refrigerator is made of stainless steel and has a glass window door that allows you to easily see your collection. The cooler also has a pair of wire shelves that provide ample space for your wine bottles. The door is interchangeable and can be switched from one side to the other. The build quality of the cooler is good, and it is designed to last for years.
I set the unit up in my formal dining room and was able to adjust the front legs to get it to sit level. After plugging it in and setting it to the coldest setting it only took a few hours to reach temperature. I appreciate the small size and build quality. At the price and bottle capacity, it’s hard to complain. It’s not the most modern looking unit and my only complaint is that the compressor is louder than I would have hoped. The compressor makes a noticeable whine and a loud click when it reaches temperature. Overall, it’s a great budget solution with high capacity for the size and price point, great quality build, and a classic design.

A good, straight forward Starter Wine Cooler

The Insignia™ - 14-Bottle Wine Cooler - Stainless steel is a good and straight froward wine cooler that is designed to hold up to 14 standard wine bottles. 10 of these are on the top 2 racks that have the top of the bottles facing out ready to grab and serve. The other 4 bottles are on the lower rack in a 2x2 sideways configuration. This lower rack might be able to handle one, maybe two Magnum sized bottles - I did not have any to to test this though. The manual says it is for standard wine bottles only and to not have them touch the back of the cooler to ensure good air circulation - which the racks inside are designed to prevent. The device comes with a limited 1-year warranty.
This cooler measures 18.5 inches wide, 19.5 inches tall and 17-5/16 inches deep and the manual states it needs 4 inches of cooling space on all sides and with a 4 foot cord it has to be placed carefully - likely on top of a counter or a stand, since it is so short.
The device has 3 main settings for temperatures - cold (the warmest at 59 to 68 degrees F), Normal (48 to 59 degrees F, and Colder (39 to 48 degrees F). The manual includes a nice chart to aide one in setting the cooler temperature based on the wine you are storing within.
Overall during my testing I have found this to be a good starter wine cooler that does the job it is intended to do,. The manual cautions storing other types of drinks - such and beer and soft drinks within, but does not explain why they should not be stored within.
The downsides of this being a starter cooler is that it is a no frills device and as such does not have a temperature reading nor a light within. Another downside is that the cooler does use a flammable refrigerant and has cautions and warnings about it on the cooler. It would be nice of this could be avoided in future versions of the cooler.

Will Get Another, As My Wine Collection Grows

My family and I are wine lovers so we have long considered adding a wine cooler to our home. We do not have an available wine cellar or basement, so a wine cooler is the best option to store the various wines we have acquired over the years. Our past travels to California wine country have resulted in us joining several wine clubs because this is the only way to get some products that are sold exclusively through some vineyards.
The delivery and setup was straightforward and trouble free. Cutting the plastic ties from the box results in the top side of the box easily sliding up and off, allowing the cooler to be lifted out of the box bottom in the upright position. The door opening orientation is reversible from left to right. The front 2 feet are adjustable to level the cooler if necessary.
An important consideration is selecting a proper place that provides 4 inches of all around ventilation and an independent power outlet. The power cord is about 4 feet in length so a nearby outlet is a must. The manual advises to not use an extension cord, and to not plug anything else into the outlet that is used for the cooler.
The manual knob thermostat has 3 settings (cold, normal, and colder), which range in temperature between 68 and 48 degrees fahrenheit, which makes it perfect for storing almost all varieties of red or white wine.
The storage racks will fit 14 standard wine bottles. The thicker bottles that are often used for pinot noir do not fit well in the top two forward-facing shelves. I was able to fit the thicker bottles on the bottom side-to- side orientation shelves that hold 4 bottles in total.
The cooler is not noisy once it reaches the target temperature, but while initially cooling there is some typical compressor noise.
This wine cooler does what it is supposed to do, and looks good while doing it. The stainless steel finish blends in perfectly to our home décor. As my wine collection is likely to grow, it is only a matter of time before I get another.

Nice-looking, compact, functional, but 2 "gotchas"

Quick Overview
=================================
If you need a compact refrigerator/cooler for wine (or other beverages), this is a good choice for the price, if you can live with a few "gotchas".
Overall build
=================================
This is a nice size for a compact beverage cooler (I think they want to call it a "cooler" instead of an actual "refrigerator" since the temperature settings aren't exact) and it looks nice with a large window framed by a stainless steel door. The door is reversible to make it open from the other side which allows for more flexible placement options. I think it's nicely compact at just under 20" on each side, making a bit bigger than a "dorm fridge" but still small enough to fit in a corner or possibly even on a countertop. Note that the front adjustable feet have a plastic/rubber coating, but the rear is more of a wide "bar" and it's metal. If you're going to put this on a counter, cover that portion or provide some pads that you might use for furniture.
The two metal wire shelves are your typical chrome-coated ones that are removable so you can clean them or place them in different orientations. By default, you can fit 10 bottles across the top two rows (facing outwards) and four more bottles underneath (facing sideways).
Performance
=================================
As you can imagine, this is a simple device with one cooling zone, but unfortunately it's hard to "dial in" the right temperature without your own thermometer. As you can see from the manual and the pictures, there's a single knob that controls the temperature, but your temperature range is specified as "cold" --> "normal" --> "colder". That's it. I think that's a bit odd since people that are looking for a dedicated wine cooler may know enough about wines to want to keep them at a proper, specific temperature. The instructions even include a handy chart to show what temperatures you should keep certain different wines at. Unfortunately, you can't specify those temperatures with this unit! I had to use a battery-powered thermometer to check what the actual temperature was. It looks like 50 degrees Fahrenheit with the temperature dial set to the "N" in "Normal".
If you can live without an exact temperature setting (perhaps you just want to cool some canned drinks and crank it down to "colder"), there's one more thing to mention: There's a strong plastic smell that still hasn't gone away after a week of use. People may refer to this as a chemical smell or plastic "outgassing", but either way it's not pleasant. With wine, it might not be a big deal since the container is sealed with a cork and then you're pouring the wine into another glass (typically?). With cans, it's a different story. That plastic smell gets onto the surface of the can, so if you pop the top and drink straight from the can, you will smell the plastic along with your drink. Again, it's not pleasant. I've had a similar, larger cooler where it was recommended to either air it out or leave baking soda/powder inside to absorb the odors. I did that for weeks and still was unable to completely remove the smell, so your mileage may vary.
Overall, it is working fine and keeps the wine at a proper temperature. A normal refrigerator would be too cold for all reds and most whites. Having said that, I'm not a "wine snob" and I probably can't tell you if a wine is 5 degrees off temperature...
Conclusion
=================================
This is a nice-looking, compact beverage cooler that will fit into most decors and spaces. My only negatives which I detailed above are the fact that you can't specify an exact temperature (but a small thermometer can take care of that) and there's a strong plastic odor which hasn't gone away after a week. If you're sensitive to smells like that, you may want to look for other options or look into cleaning it and letting it air out.

I've had several solid state coolers in my exercise room, they just have not lasted. So I inquired at BB what would provide a longer life. A sales person told me to get one with a real compressor, he acknowledged the solid state units didn't last if you didn't keep their fans clean. I told him how I was going to use it, so he showed me a can fridge, "dorm" fridge and this wine fridge. The appearance of the wine fridge was far superior, and it cooled to a lower temperature (41 degrees) [but no temperature display (-1 star)]. The temp adjustment is on the bottom, behind the bottles, making it inconvenient to get to, but I doubt I'll change it much. Given that I'm going to use this for water and medications that must be kept cold, the shelves in the wine cooler seemed to offer a better fit than the can cooler. They had an 8 bottle cooler, but based on my calculations I could not store more than 16-20 water bottles, this can easily accommodate over 24, although 20 will be fine. Another nice feature is that the door swing can easily be changed from the right side to the left side, by unscrewing 3 screws on the top and bottom of the door, moving the bracket to the other side and screwing the screws back in (no flipping the door). There is a grab handle on both sides of the door.
Installation requires removing some packing materials, it is packed quite nicely. I like the exterior appearance of this cooler. The top rack probably would not accomodate a tall wine bottle (like some Rieslings). The unit also does not have an interior light, I had not noticed this in store. But given my exercise room is well lit, this is not a problem for me. The unit is about 18w x 19t x 17d, it runs very quietly, with only a moderate humm. The lowest could get the temperature to go (turning past 'cooler') was 44.5 degrees. I think it looks quite modern, I hope to have it for a long time.
