Customers often highlight the 5.3 Cu. Ft. Upright Freezer's convenient size, affordability, and ample storage capacity as significant advantages. Many appreciate its quiet operation, ease of use, and well-organized shelving that allows for easy visibility of stored items. However, some users point out the need for manual defrosting as a drawback. Other minor concerns include leveling difficulties and the lack of an interior light.

Perfect size and footprint for retirees’ freezer

Now that we have a backup generator, I can have the freezer I have needed, so I can take advantage of sales. As our little dog is on expensive prescription dog food, I cook my own version, freezing in batches, containers of five days each. Didn’t need one of the huge freezers, (two retirees), and I’m short, so would disappear into a chest freezer, should I need something from the bottom.
The footprint is small, not as deep as the usual kitchen refrigerators and freezers, as we wanted. Size perfect fo space available. I added clear bins, and thermometer, as it doesn’t come with one, didn’t want to have to guess if cold enough. Now even hubs can be sent to the freezer to pick out dinner.
Normally I don’t review products immediately, to be sure they operate trouble free. But wanted to share how well it suits our needs. And how easily it can be organized. See photo.
The door had two dents when we unpacked it. Manager graciously adjusted price a bit, back onto my credit card. Great service, ordered online, easy pick-up an hour later. They loaded it into the truck for us too. The dents don’t bother us, as it is in a climate-controlled garage/studio.
One quality star removed for two dents, as some would find that unacceptable, depending on where placed.

At first I was very impressed with this freezer, but after a week ir so, the freezer started accumulating quite a bit of frost. I know this is a manual defrost model, but I was previously assured that it would be many months before I would need to manually defrost the freezer. This is very disappointing because with the frost building up above the top shelf reduces storage space.
On the positive side, all the food inside is solidly frozen, there is a very tight seal, it is extremely quiet, and it takes up very little space.

I've procrastinated about buying a freezer for quite a while, I didn't want a chest freezer bc I prefer the upright style, but the prices are always outrageous. So when this one was on sale I jumped at it! It's the perfect size for a family of 2, I can store precooked meals and meats in it along with extras of my sons favorite frozen goodies. It doesn't take up as much room in our garage as a huge freezer either which I like a lot.
Delivery was easy on time and painless, too!!

Glad I got it on sale and did not pay full price. The freezer works, no problem. I took off 2 stars because, when we got the freezer into the basement & unpacked it, it had a large dent on the upper right side, near the back. The box wasn't damaged, nor was the Styrofoam that was on the corner. I believe it was damaged at the factory and shipped to the store in that condition. I could have returned it but did not want to go through the hassle of repacking it & taking it back to the store. It doesn't effect how it works so I decided to just keep it. The manufacturer should have better quality control. I would recommend buying one to a friend, just unpack it in the store & make sure it isn't damaged before you take it home!

We bought this freezer as an emergency purchase, as an existing freezer had stopped working. Best Buy was the only store that had what we needed.
This freezer has worked well since we plugged it in. It’s taller than the one we replaced, and because of that it has an extra shelf. The freezer is easy to load, and because of it’s height it is fairly easy to see what’s on each shelf. Sadly, it is not frost-free, but we’re happy with it, especially considering it’s low cost.

This freezer is exactly what I needed for my tiny family of 2. Right away, let me say, yes, you can for frozen pizzas in here. That was my husband's biggest concern while we were looking around. The shelves are not adjustable, but are somehow perfectly spaced for us. They are removable if you need to store exceptionally large items.
Since we had no way to get it home from the store, we ordered it off the website and paid for the delivery. It was here in less than 48 hours. It arrived in absolutely perfect condition. The delivery drivers were amazingly friendly.
I actually really like how small it is. I've had large upright freezers in the past and I've always had to dig through them, or food was forgotten about in them. This is big enough to hold what I need it to hold, but small enough not to be difficult to see all items in.
Overall, this is the perfect solution to my freezer needs.

Small freezer good for 1 to 2 people (we are 1 adult/1 teenage household). Wanted upright freezer-easier to see what looking for/better organization of items. Takes up minimal space. Enough space to keep some overflow from frig freezer /minimal amounts of extras on hand—YOUR NOT GETTING a 13.8 or bigger freezer-it’s 5.3—IS NOT BIG ENOUGH for large families, large amounts of bulk warehouse buying or a side of beef. Have only been using for 2 months—so far so good. Picked up on day said would be in, put it in spot, took out of packaging/was damage free, read thru/followed instructions, let it sit upright for a day before plugged in, started right up, waited day before putting things in, been running fine, and not opened on daily basis-probably will miss frost free feature had in previous bigger freezer—knew wasn’t feature on this model. Would offer positive info to friend based on 2 months have had it.

Went looking for an upright small freezer and this one has really started out well. Reached operating temp quickly and the shelves allow you to see what you have. The door seal suction is really tight so no lost cold air. Don't know about longevity since I just bought it. Fairly quiet just a very low fan hum. I would recommend this item.

This is a great little upright freezer. I would gladly have paid more for it if it had the frost-free feature. I am not looking forward to the time when I will have to defrost it! However, that is the only downside to this freezer, albeit a rather major consideration. I did not have room for anything larger. I am very pleased with this unit. It's easy to find the frozen food in the freezer and it runs quietly. I've had it for about 1 month now, and there is very little frost build-up on the shelves. The trick is to NOT open the door and stand around looking for things. Know where you put the stuff to begin with. I use this freezer solely for the extra room that my GE refrigerator cannot provide. It has a bottom freezer where I keep the every day stuff. If I want to spend time rummaging around in that freezer it's OK because it is a frost-free fridge. As I've already said, a manual defrost unit is less appealing than a frost-free model, but this Insignia fit the space and is quite inexpensive. A great value! I'm happy I bought it!

Just the right size for our family of 4. Quiet operation. Issues: you have to hold the top of the freezer when you open the door. Very tight seal ( that is great) but you can pull the freezer over if your not careful. Not recommend for small children to try and open. It is also not frost free but at this price point I did not expect it to be. Does the job.

so far so good, nice upright unit, maximizes space consumed, holds its set freezing temperature, door has great suction and seal keeping surrounding air and temperature out, quite operation for most part of the day,
Cooling fins are exposed inside the freezer so one has to be careful not to have sharp objects anywhere in there

We have a French door refrigerator in our kitchen, and things tend to get lost at the bottom of its freezer. We also have to jam pizza boxes to get them to fit. The two of us recently moved to a new home where we have a narrow spot in our laundry room for an upright freezer.
We wanted an upright freezer to avoid the waste associated with a chest freezer, and because uprights take up less floor space. This freezer was perfect for our needs. I ordered and paid for it online, and was notified it was ready for pickup in less than 45 minutes.
The boxed freezer just fit into the back of our CR-V and we took it home. We ended up having to reverse the door, but this didn’t take much effort. After placing the freezer in the laundry room, I allowed it to run for a couple of days before filling it up. I’m really pleased with how easy it is to find everything now!
While the freezer is a basic manual defrost model with no door storage, minimizing the time the door is open should help reduce the need to defrost frequently. I’d buy this freezer again. Its size is ideal for a smaller family. Operating cost (per the attached label) is $36 a year.

I’ve been wanting an upright freezer for a while had 2 chest freezers & was tired of having to bend over in it & not knowing what was even in the freezer after stacking food on top of the other so I gave them away after a while! We live in an apartment with a very small kitchen
& we only had a little area for a freezer & when it arrived it fit perfectly!! It has a good amount of space just enough for my son & I we are very happy with it & can now
stock up for the winter I just wish it had a light but I’ve been checking led stick up lights that can with stand extreme cold & maybe I can get one I can put in it!! The delivery guys for the Coloniel Heights store were great too!! Anyone with a small space & a bad back should get one U & your back won’t regret it!!!

My husband and I are retired, and needed just a little more freezer room so we looked around and found this one. We have had it now for almost a month, and it is so quiet we can't even hear it running. Since it's an upright, things don't get lost in the bottom like in a chest freezer. It seems very sturdy and well-built too. And this one keeps things cold, really cold. It takes up very little space in the basement. I am very pleased with this unit and would recommend this to anyone who needs a freezer but doesn't need a huge amount of extra space.

This is my 3rd Freezer I currently own. A 22 year old Roper in the Garage, 3 year old Magic Chef on the Patio, and now this Insignia in the spare bedroom. I do a lot of cooking in Large batches and was looking for an inexpensive Upright freezer to store my homemade soups etc.. Its SO much easier to locate the items in an Upright unit rather than unloading items in a Chest freezer. This freezer works perfectly on the Normal setting. It’s compact and fit well in my spare multi-purpose room. It stores plenty of small items. I will now use my chest freezers primarily for Large Bulky items. It’s very quiet when running. Very pleased with this purchase! Even more pleased with the price!
