I originally received one of these through a promotional program. I recently found myself needing an outlet expander, and I've been so happy with this wall tap that I purchased another. It is inexpensive, intelligently designed and works very well. One of the devices I need to power is an electronic device, making the surge protection a very useful feature. The 30W USB-C charging port frees up one of my phone power adapters with a more convenient location for a charging cable, and is able to fast charge my Pixel 10 Pro in a little less than an hour. Pay attention to the USB-C and USB-A charging specifications. The wall tap provides 30W charging through the USB-C port or 12W charging through the USB-A port when either is used alone, but charging is limited to 5V and 20W max when the USB-C and USB-A ports are used together. The two "upside down" sockets on the angled surfaces are great at minimizing mechanical interference between wall warts, and also at handling low profile three pronged plugs where the direction the cable comes away from the outlet can be a problem. The adapter is very easy to install, just remove the screw holding the outlet cover plate in place, plug in the wall tap and secure it with the longer provided screw. I taped the old screw to the bottom of the wall tap so I'll have it if I ever decide to remove the wall tap. If you're looking for a surge protected outlet expander with 30W USB-C fast charging capability, this is a device you should consider.

This review is for the Insignia 5-Outlet Surge Protector Wall Tap. It turns your standard two-plug outlet into a total of 5, as well as provides two USB ports for charging devices like smartphones and tablets, etc.. When either of the two USB ports are used alone, the USB-C Power Delivery port provides 30W, while the USB-A offers 12W of power. However, when used together, they share a total of 20W max power (5V 4A). The tap itself is an attractive and clean design that fits in well into most outlets. I did discover the tap will not fit a GFCI outlet in my kitchen as the spacing of the plugs was off just enough to prevent the tap from inserting into the wall outlet. I wouldn’t recommend that anyway since it would cover the reset switch and indicator lights. A long screw is provided to secure the tap to the wall, but in my case that wasn’t possible since none of my outlets use the center screw. The tap still feels very secure and not really an issue. Of course, one of the top features is the 1,080 joule surge protection and it’s UL-1449 Certified. A small green LED lets you know the surge protection is active. The instructions do mention that at some point, the device will reach the end of its service life and the wall tap will need to be replaced. It doesn’t say how long before that happens, but it might be a good idea every once in awhile to check the green LED light status if surge protection is a requirement. The tap will continue to work in any case. I think this is often the case with most surge protectors. The Insignia 5-Outlet Surge Protector Wall tap fits my needs perfectly in our kitchen, where I have an All-in-One PC and Echo device plugged in to the outlet located in the tile backsplash. It’s a much cleaner solution compared to using a bulky and unsightly power strip. In addition, I keep a USB cord plugged in for convenience to charge our smartphones in the kitchen where we spend a lot of time. Highly recommended!
This inexpensive Insignia 5-outlet wall tap with surge protection is a very useful device. It converts a normal 2-outlet wall plate into 5 surge protected outlets with USB-C and USB-A charging ports. Installation is easy. Remove the center screw from the 2-outlet wall plate, plug the 5-outlet wall tap into the wall outlet over the wall plate, and secure the wall tap and plate with the longer center screw provided with the wall tap. The screw holds the wall tap securely in place, preventing it from coming loose when you unplug an AC cord. A green light indicates surge protection is active. Be sure to pay attention to the USB-C and USB-A charging specifications. The device provides 30W charging through the USB-C port or 12W charging through the USB-A port when either is used alone, but charging is limited to 5V and 20W max when the USB-C and USB-A ports are used together. I have a new Pixel 10 phone that supports 30W USB-C charging, and the Insignia wall tap works perfectly with it. I have charging limited to 80% to extend battery life, and the Pixel 10 charges from 10% to 80% in about 45 minutes. Two of the wall tap outlets, one on each side, are upside down which allows the wall tap to accommodate low profile AC plugs while avoiding possible mechanical conflicts with the wall or with another adjacent plug. The wall tap extends about 1.5" from the wall plate, which could be a problem if you want to use it behind a piece of furniture that you want to keep as close to the wall as possible. In this situation you probably need a surge protector with a cord and low profile plug connected directly to the wall plate. The Insignia 5-outlet wall tap has been perfect for my situation. I was out of outlets with a lamp and charging adapter, but with the addition of the tap I have spare surge protected outlets, and a surge protected 30W USB-C charging.

[Employee of bestbuy] The Insignia™ 5-Outlet Wall Tap is an excellent, space-saving solution for managing multiple devices. Its compact design plugs directly into your existing wall outlet, instantly expanding capacity without the clutter of a bulky power strip cord. The inclusion of both a USB-C and a standard USB port is a standout feature, allowing for convenient charging of modern smartphones and accessories alongside traditional appliances. With a 1,080-Joule surge protection rating, it offers solid peace of mind for everyday electronics like TVs or computers. Overall, it is a reliable, clean-looking upgrade for any home office or entertainment center needing efficient power management.

I got this to replace my 6 pack outlet strips. This one is good for up to 1500w and 15 amps. Also has electronic protection for electrical surges. Only thing missing is a shut off switch. USB-c charges my iPhone, no need for wall adapter! Organizes all of my power cords. Wish it came in black. Fits multiple wall warts. I used the provided screw to secure plug to outlet. I probably didn’t need to do that but better safe than sorry. Does not come with instructions on how to use the screw to mount the adapter. Just remove the wall plate screw, plug in this adapter to the outlet, then use the provided screw to lock the plug in place. I like how some of the plugs are upside down. Helps fit bigger plugs. This does take up both outlets and plugs into the bottom outlet. This plug is UL listed. It it pretty low profile sticking out about 2” from the wall. I highly recommend this. It is pretty basic but gets the job done. My pc speakers are plugged into it and I don’t get any static from the plug.

I have had this insignia outlet for a few weeks now and it works great! It easy to install into the wall and provides good power to my devices. The essential part was having the 30 watts since I like to fast charge my phone. Its capable of fast charging when other devices are plugged in, except for the USB slot when its being used, which lowers the wattage, although its suitable.

- The 5 outlets are spaced out well. - The built in USB-C port does 30w fast charging when only using the USB-C port.
