Compact, Clean, and Convenient!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this Insignia wall tap because I needed more outlets behind my TV and a place to charge my phone without adding another bulky charger. After a few weeks of everyday use, here’s what I actually think. First — the good stuff. It’s small, simple, and it works. Plugging one outlet into five AC sockets plus a USB-C and a USB-A port is exactly the convenience I wanted. The outlets are spaced in a way that actually lets me plug in a chunky power brick next to a slim plug without everything blocking each other, which is surprisingly handy. The USB-C port is great for charging my phone without dragging a charger over, and the USB-A is useful for my old gadgets. I also like that it has surge protection (1,080 joules). That gave me peace of mind plugging in my streamer and router. For the price, it seems like a good balance of protection and value — I’d rather have this than no protection at all. A few things to keep in mind: the unit is a wall-tap, so it stays where you plug it in. That’s perfect for my TV setup, but not great if you want to move it around or need a long cord. Also, the product page doesn’t say much about exactly how powerful the USB-C port is, so I wouldn’t rely on it to fast-charge a large laptop — it’s clearly aimed more at phones and tablets. If you own very expensive gear and live somewhere with frequent lightning or big power spikes, you might want a heavier-duty surge protector with a higher joule rating and more indicators. But for everyday use — bedside lamp, phone charging, TV accessories, routers — this is a tidy, inexpensive fix. It would be particularly good for: - A bedside outlet where you want phone/tablet charging plus a lamp. - A living room behind a TV where one outlet becomes multiple and you also charge a streaming device/console. - A small home-office wall setup where space is tight and you want USB-C charging. Less ideal for: - Heavy-duty power setups where you expect high surge risk or many big plug-adapters. - Locations where you might want a long cord (since wall-tap has no cord to reposition). If I were to summarize: If you’re looking for an affordable, space-efficient surge protector with USB-C and USB-A charging built in, for everyday electronics (TV, router, laptop, phone), this is a strong choice. The Insignia brand has decent user feedback overall for its surge-protector range. However, if you are hooking up high-end equipment (say a gaming PC + multiple monitors + home theater + expensive audio gear) or want maximum assurance (higher joule rating, more features like coaxial/ethernet surge protection, indicator for “end of life” protection), then you may want to consider a higher-end model. Overall: easy to install, does what it promises, and makes life a little less cluttered. I’d give it 5 stars. I’m happy with it and would recommend it for most users looking to tidy up a small area.

Nice surge protected 5 outlet power tap with USB
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia 5-Outlet Wall Tap Surge Protector is a nice space saving device for certain areas. After removing the screw that holds the outlet faceplate in place, the unit plugs into a standard 2 outlet wall plug. There is a long piece of plastic on the back that slides into the grounding hole on the upper of the two outlets. A long screw in the center, replaces the screw that had been holding the faceplate, and now holds the device in place. The wall tap has 5 power outlets. There are 2 outlets on each side and the sides run at an angle, making it easy to plug in adapters. One outlet it upside down, allowing you plug 2 adapters into each side if necessary. On the front you will find a 5th outlet. Above the outlet are a USB-A and a USB-C port. These can be used for charging your USB devices. The USB-C port provides up to 30 Watt and the USB-A port provides 12 Watt charging if the USB-C is not in use. When both are in use, the USB-C provides 20 Watts. All of the outlets and ports are surge protected to keep your devices safe. The unit has an LED indicator that lets you know that your devices are protected. Should the LED go out, it means that the wall tap has protected your equipment from a surge in power and needs to be replaced. This wall tap is easy to install. It provides surge protected power to up to 5 devices, plus can protectively high-speed charge up to 2 devices via USB. I think that the kitchen is a great spot for this device, but a home office is another great choice. Regardless of where you use it, I think you will like it.

Works perfect and love the convenience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s great to get something that is simple to install and easily takes care of a problem that was an inconvenience. We have a wall outlet in our family room that was already taken up by a floor lamp and cordless phone. Whenever one wanted to plug in a charger or laptop then something else was getting unplugged first. Well, problem solved just by removing the outlet cover plate and inserting this 5-outlet wall tap surge protector into the two wall outlets. The supplied screw simply goes into the same middle screw hole to firmly hold this 5-outlet wall tap in place. In addition to gaining more than double the outlets that are conveniently located on the front and sides, one also benefits from one USB-C and one USB port for charging accessories such as iPads and cell phones. I appreciate that it also provides protection for power surges and spikes up to 1,080 joules. There is an LED indicator in the front, lower left corner that is lit to indicate one’s devices are protected. I have used other Insignia products from Best Buy and I’ve found them to be a very good value. This 5-outlet wall tap surge protector has a solid build and feels very secure in the wall outlet as one unplugs cords from the outlets. The only situation this may not accommodate is if one does not have clearance behind furniture to allow this wall tap to stick out roughly 1 ½” from the wall. The four side outlets are at least angled to allow for easier access.

Decent surge protector
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The search protector is built very nicely and with good quality. The looks are very nice in the options for standard plug as well as USB in USB-C are awesome. I do like the configuration in geometry of the device as it allows you to plug in multiple devices Without the chords getting extremely tangled. This can always be a hassle and the configuration sort of separates the chords very nicely. Installation is really quick it requires only you to remove the Screw from theface plate Cover from the wall outlet. That is my one complaint about this device is that I Inserted it with the place plate on and the face plate off, and it doesn’t quite fit as nicely as I would like. If you do it without the face plate, it does leave a gap between the wall and the outlet and the backside of where your outlet will sit so that kinda is a problem. I would recommend if you’d were to use this to just leave the face plate on and And insert The screw that comes with the insignia outlet in. It seems to be OK. I still recommend. It’s hard for me to say whether it does adequate surge protection as that is very difficult to test obviously. But so far it’s working as intended.

Won't fit all outlets, but good feature set
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I installed this in our kitchen and used it daily to power a range of devices including our security system, Echo, phone chargers, and the occasional small appliance. While installation is simple, it is limited to standard outlet types as it won’t fit GFI outlets or those with built-in USB ports due to a fixed plastic stub that enforces spacing. In our usage, all of the outlets and USB ports functioned reliably under regular load, with no issues related to power delivery, overheating, or loose connections. The layout of the supplied outlets themselves is well-spaced, allowing larger plugs to coexist without interference. The unit feels solid and well-built, with a heavyweight design that suggests durability and dependable surge protection. While I didn’t test its limits, I trust it will deliver the protection it claims. Overall, it’s a practical and reliable solution for expanding outlet capacity in high-use areas, provided your wall outlet is compatible with its rigid mounting design.

Great upgrade to a standard wall outlet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia 5-Outlet surge protector with USB and USB-C charging is a pretty handy thing if you have a lot of large plugs going to the same outlet. Standard power strips have the outlets placed so close together that the oversized ac adapters that power so many of our devices usually cover up other slots. Three of the outlets on one side of the wall tap are offset at an angle, allowing ample room for even the largest of wall-warts, and the other two outlets have their orientations flipped for even more room. The USB-C and USB charging ports are super handy, and work well for lower draw USB-powered devices like led lighting. While the wall tap technically only plugs into one outlet, it does have a post that fits into the ground port of the outlet above for stability. It's possible to permanently install the wall tap by removing the outlet wall plate and using the attached screw that goes where the wall plate screw went. The manual said that this was not good for aquarium equipment, presumably due to the power draw from things like the heater, so this sort of ruined the original plans that I had for it. Luckily, I've found the wall tap to be a good replacement for the traditional power strip in my bedroom. It's much more convenient to have my smart lights plug in closer to the wall vs the strip on the floor, and can have my watch and phone charging on my dresser.

Extra outlets, Fast Charging, What's not to like?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Extra outlets, Fast Charging, What's not to like? The unit plugs into an existing outletand supplies power to 5 grounded plugs, a single 30W 'Fast Charging' USB-C and single 12W 'standard' USB port. My initial thought was that this unit would replace the wall plate on the outlet, but it does not. When plugged in it stands slightly (maybe 1/8") off the wall.If you mount it on top of your existing wall plate, it looks great. Simply remove the screw from the wall plate, plug the unit in and use the 'extended' screw from the new unit to tie everything down. Very easy. When installed, the unit itself juts out about 1 3/4" from the wall, so find an outlet where this will no be a concern to you. This is a surge protector as well, but understand that if you get a lot of power surges in your area it may not be a good option for you. If it trips, you have to replace it. There is no reset breaker. But, for the price, if it protects ONE high(er) value item, it is well worth the price. All in all, it is a nice unit. Adding 3 outlets, a Fast Charging USB-C and 'standard' USB-B slot and surge protection are godsends in this day and age. Unless you need battery backup, this should take care of all your basic power and protection needs.
