Power cord

Went in hoping I could buy a factory power cord which I found out isn't offered as a stand alone product. I was told by one of the workers that the insignia cord I purchased would work with the tv. I was super excited to get home and finally watch my tv. Well this is where the big problem lies. I finally get the tv setup and ready to plug in. Only to find out the plug does not work. Shouldnt the workers there know this stuff or are they just making it up just to make a sale.
