I usually have a problem setting this type of remote up, although this one was very easy to set up and very easy to read its instructions, and you can see the buttons in the dark with the backlight!

A good remote with JP1 potential

This is a pretty good universal remote. It's Best Buy's version of the URC-3680. The backlighting is good and the buttons have a nice feel, even though the text on them can be very tiny and hard to read. The eight device keys offer lots of potential, but the pre-programmed device offerings are a little odd. The cable codes are very extensive, for example, but there are no VCR codes, and while that's probably understandable, there are no codes for my fairly common Homeworx DVR either. There is the option for device learning, which works pretty well. One thing I noticed is that you can't 'learn' the forward or reverse buttons - they just won't take (I tried with several devices). It also looks like the 'learn' memory capacity might be limited. Fortunately, it's a 'JP1' remote, so you can download codes for pretty much any device (including VCRs) from the free JP1 website. You have to get an interface cable (about $10 + a little DYI) and the software is a little clunky, but once you figure it out, this remote can do pretty much everything - including forward and reverse. Summary: a pretty good remote out of the box with limited code options, but a 5 star remote with JP1 programming.

After 10 mins of programming I am able to control a new Samsung 2025 TV, A Roku Ultra LT streaming box, and a Panasonic region free DVD player. My soundbar learns the TV's audio buttons itself so audio is controlled without remote programming. But a bonus - I was able to lock the audio buttons such that the controller sends them even when I'm controlling the DVD or Roku. No need to switch device on the remote to change volume or mute. Drawbacks: The Roku remote has a special [*] button not on this remote's keyboard. I found it's equivalent thru trial and error as there is no doc or website I can find that says how the buttons are assigned. Also I first used the quick method to select my tv. It mostly worked but was missing a [Guide] function. I reprogrammed the [TV] button set using the device code method on the remote and got the missing TV function . So I would have given 5 starts if not for these 2 drawbacks.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We are glad to hear that you were able to successfully program the remote to control multiple devices, including your Samsung TV, Roku Ultra LT streaming box, and Panasonic region-free DVD player. It's great that your soundbar can learn the TV's audio buttons automatically, and that you found a way to lock the audio buttons for convenience.

We appreciate your insights regarding the drawbacks you encountered, such as the missing [*] button and the initial programming method missing the [Guide] function. Your comments are valuable to us as we strive to improve our products and provide better documentation and support.

Remember the days of universal remotes that had a billion buttons for every function over the sun and you had to press weird button combinations and numbers to get it programmed for your device? Well, those days still exist. This is a fine remote. It's pretty cheap. It's worth the money. I purchased it for a TV where the remote got lost in a move. It works for fine for that.

This is doing everything I needed -- one old remote had a dodgy power button. The pre-programmed options didn't cover my device, but code capture did. The hardware interface is not described -- making it USB would bring this into the current century.

If you need an affordable remote to replace the one that your tv system came with, then look no further and buy this one. Easy set up, slim design, there’s an option if you want the buttons to light up so you can see them in the dark.

Works very well. Simple to set up and compatible with all of my devices (Roku 4K Express, Insignia Fire tv 4K edition, and Yamaha sound bar). Only thing to be aware of with Roku is your Roku won’t power off to confirm it’s set up (unsure if it’s a Roku express issue or other Rokus have the same thing happen), but it’ll be set up even without powering off. It took me a few seconds to realize it was set up. Remote works very well, only thing is you have to aim it directly at device. Very useful for simplifying a bunch of remotes. Well done Insignia.

I bought this remote as a back up for one of our Sony TVs (the XR75X90J). The original remote was temporarily lost during a move, and this Insignia seemed like a reasonable replacement, as it would also control some of the other devices in our new home. It was easy to set up, and it's performed excellently without any real exceptions... except one: It does not support voice control (most new remotes do). This might be an added feature to some, but for me it was an oversight and I don't think I'd have bought it had I not realized this sooner. Still, a very reliable, flexible and responsive remote. If you don't need voice control, and especially if you don't want it, this is a solid option.

After using a Logitech Harmony 650 for years (no longer made), I needed one that will take care of my TV (2007 model Vizio), XBox One S (on and off), and DirecTV Stream. Having this one that does everything right out of the box AND less than $30 is great! I haven't messed with the macro buttons yet, but everything else is straight-forward. And, if your device is not listed, the remote can learn it. One thing is, if your sight is less than perfect, the small writing on the buttons may present an issue (docked one star). Otherwise, a great and inexpensive remote!

This was very easy to setup for my Vizio Smart TV. I was using it with the basic features in under 10 minutes. Only reason I didn't give it 5 starts as setting up the shortcut buttons (ie a Netflix or Amazon shortcut button like my other remote could do) was not at all intuitive and didn't make sense, so I am just not using them.

Not nearly as sophisticated as a Harmony or MX, but it's easy to set up and use. The Activity and Volume Lock features work just as well as those pricier ones, and the Activity function helps make up for not having dedicated Channel and Transport Lock features. Having learning capability at this price (and the even cheaper 3 and 5 device ones) really helps. Unfortunately the App and Channel shortcut buttons can't be repurposed into learnable buttons. And the IR emitter is pretty weak especially if you're used to some that you can just point anywhere in the room or use RF.

I am very happy with this remote. I use this to control my Samsung TV (already pre-programmed), my ROKU (already pre-programmed), I was able to pair it with my TIVO unit, and my Blu-ray player. Programming was easy, and works well. The only drawback is if I am controlling a device like the ROKU and need to change the volume I need to select TV. Overall it works well for all of my devices and simplified my setup.

I bought this to replace the laughable remote that came with my Insignia TV, which is connected to both an HTPC and digital antenna. The original remote doesn't have number buttons on it which we need for the antenna and is awkward for me to handle. This remote is large and easy to handle. Inexplicably it does not include a button for Settings. Granted, you don't need it much after you've set the TV up but using the antenna means changing the setup every time. So, instead of replacing the old remote it means I've got another remote to keep track of. Oh, well.
