Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the ease of use, typing experience, functionality, and affordability of the Chat Pad Controller Keyboard. They appreciate how it enhances communication and simplifies text input in games and streaming apps. However, some users have concerns about the small button size, the requirement for a dongle, occasional connection issues, and the overall build quality.

Try playing Elite Dangerous and locating planets with names like "HIP 36601 B 5 A" on an xbox without a keypad. It's a pain. Especially when your old microsoft chatpad has kicked the bucket after years of use and you find it has been discontinued, and all that remains are sketchy knock-offs with terrible reviews on various online sites. Such was life, until I found this. This works very well, I would say as good or better than the original. The only downside is that it lacks volume and mix controls like the original and requires a bluetooth dongle that takes up one of 3 USB ports on the Series X. Also, I have found the dongle does not like to be plugged into the back usb ports, as the signal has trouble passing through the guts of the xbox. It works fine plugged into the front port. The audio pass-through works great with a headset, so long as there is a volume control on the headset. You must go through the menus if you want to use a pair of wired headphones. But a wireless headset is really the way to go in 2021. I had no problems pairing the dongle as it came already paired out of the box, with good instructions in case you ever need to pair it again. The green backlight is very bright, much better than the original. One odd thing I have found is the space bar inserts 2 spaces instead of one. So I use the Y button instead when that is important. This fits perfectly inside the charging case for the Elite series 2 controller and all the accessories fit underneath the pad. If you need a keyboard on your controller this is great, as there are not many good options out there, and you can always take it back if there is a problem out of the box, or just replace it when you need to later. I hope Best Buy keeps these around for years to come.

Conveniant for typing when you don’t wear a head set. Keys are rubber, back lit, and sturdy. It does not have a tight fit however. It had some wiggle when chat pad was applied. Not much play but some will notice. Wired headsets work no problem. I’ll say it adds some weight to the controller which is good in my case. Good product for the money.

Its a great accessory that fits well into the Xbox One, Series X & S ecosystem. It does everything that its advertised to do & really helps streamline things when it comes to texting in chats, or using the search bar in multimedia apps. I was able to buy it on clearance, which made this product something of a steal. If you happen to stumble across one of these either online or in store, I'd highly recommend that you buy it.

+well built with good ergonomics. Thanks Insignia +does not require batteries or bluetooth sync unlike knockoffs -lacks the volume up/down, chat mix buttons, mute, and programable buttons from the authentic microsoft chatpad -requires usb dongle (it's basically just a usb keyboard that allows audio passthrough)

Cool keyboard/chat pad at a great price. I didn't know you have to use one of your USB slots to get this thing to work. Kind of sucks but other than that, cool.

This is great. Super soft buttons, feels like a pencil eraser. Microsofts beyboards buttons are a hard plastic. The back light of green on the black keyboard is much more appealing to the eyes vs the white that Microsoft gives on theirs. No issues with latency. Who cares that it needs a usb plug in doggle, I had no idea that my Xbox has 4 usb ports on the back!!!!! Love this device!!

Overall, this thing does what it's intended to. I use it to put in log in information much easier on the xbox than using the controller to do so. It also came in handy to message other players when playing games like MWII. I thought it was going to be a pain having it at the bottom of my controller, but it doesn't bother me too much. If you're looking to have a better typing experience on the xbox without committing an entire keyboard then this is worth a look.

    Not for Charging Docks

Good product for a reasonable price. There are some issues to be aware before purchasing. The extra surface area when attached prevents seating in either of my PowerA through-door charging docks. The fit to controller allows a tiny bit of wiggle to lower corners of either side. The USB dongle had an excessively tight fit to my Series X console front port. The keypad may pick up duplicated letters if you press even a tiny bit longer than necessary. The passthrough connector for headset acts like headset is attached (and forces stereo audio) even if no headset being used. Imperfect, but a cool affordable gadget for most Xbox controller models (NOT Elite).

Glad to finally have found this for xbox one. I had one for xbox 360, and it was a game changer; just makes it so much easier to type stuff rather than using the controller. It’s a pretty easy setup: just remove the dongle from the controller, attach it to the xbox, then attach the chat pad to the controller and voila.

Connects great, works great, soooo happy to finally stop trying to type with the on-screen keyboard. Just don’t forget to remove the USB before you try to attach it! I got over-eager and tried to immediately plug it into my remote. After about 20min, I finally realized I was oblivious to the plug blocking the connection.

Does what it is supposed to do and does it exactly how you'd think. I've only used it a few times but all of those times, it has functioned. The price was the major reason for purchasing this keypad over a more expensive model
