The RCA to HDMI converter is a handy little device that lets me convert RCA inputs into HDMI outputs and resolutions of 720p or 1080p. This handy little device can be used for older plug-in devices to be output into the newer TVs and screens. I used it to plug in my old retro video games so that I could play them on my HD TV and it worked wonderfully. I am impressed with the clarity that you can get by plugging the old consoles through this converter. You have the options of 720P and 1080P, though I did not notice much of a difference between those 2, but my testing was limited to testing it with the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 The device itself is small, unobtrusive and very simple. I think that if you have older devices around the home such as VCRs, Retro Consoles, or DVD players, this is going to be a converter that you're going to want to have around. It did not come with an HDMI cable, so make sure that you do pick one up unless you already have one. The adapter only works one way (RCA to HDMI). It does come with a wall block and the power cable. Overall , I do recommend it.

Connects your “old” tech to new display tech

If you’re an elder millennial like me, or recently have found yourself interested in “old” technology the. Having one of these boxes is a necessity. Most modern televisions and monitors do not support the old RCA connection from technology of the past. You might be lucky and find a tv that still has it. But anywho, this device makes connecting your old camcorders, cameras, VHS players, game consoles, dvd players, to a modern display simple. It is small, unobtrusive and comes with its own USB power brick to power the signal converter. I used mine to connect an old miniDV Sony handicam to my modern QLED television for viewing old family home movies I recorded. I also use it to connect my old PlayStation 1 and Nintendo “NES” to play my old games from time to time. The connection is stable, and allows you to output in 720p or 1080p with the flick of a switch. I don’t notice any lag or input lag while using this box as a signal converter. The video and audio output is crisp, and looks fantastic on my television. I can whole heartedly recommend this to anyone needing to convert an RCA device to HdMI.

Really nice RCA video and stereo audio adapter to HDMI. Its well built and the little box feels sturdy and of quality. They include a Type C to A USB cable and an AC adapter for power. Using it is super easy. Just plug your analog device via RCA and then the HDMI cable to your newer digital device (HDMI cable not included). There is a switch on the front to flip it from 720p to 1080p resolution mode. This little device allowed me to be able to use some old video game consoles from my youth I had in storage. Also some Hi8 video tapes I had from my youth too. Quality is good, however it also depends on how good is the source. The video game consoles worked great and my old camcorder recorder footage worked good to, although they had the typical old tape look (blame the source, not this little guy). Bare in mind, this is only one way, RCA to HDMI, and it works great and its super easy to use. If you have lots of old analog devices and your new TV/screen doesn't have analog inputs anymore, with this little guy you will be able to watch them again on your new devices, works great!

Raised in the 80s, I have a lot of electronics laying around that aren’t compatible with my OLED TV with only HDMI inputs. This Insignia works perfect for playing my old Nintendo, karaoke or anything that only has RCA outputs. Comes with everything besides the RCA and HDMI cables. It comes with a USB outlet plug because it requires power to work. Worked straight out of the box. There is a switch from 720p to 1080 on the front just in case you’re having issues with the image. It was total nostalgia when the Nintendo fired up for the first time in decades. Showing my kids what I grew up with was a blast from the past. The converter is pretty small and can easily hide behind the TV. Just make sure you have another outlet space to power the converter. I do wish the USB power is on the same side as the RCA inputs. The converter would be convenient for me to pack with me to travel with. I can see myself using this converter in my camper or hotel. Dust off your old gaming consoles, VCR, DVD player, Karaoke machine!

    RCA to HDMI - yes!

The Insignia RCA to HDMI converter is exactly what it says it is. It comes with the power adapter and cord, but you will need to supply the HDMI cable and the RCA cable. Simple and easy to use. I have an old camcorder that my kid is always wanting to watch the old videos from and it’s a tiny little screen on that thing. Being able to easily plug it into my TV with this adapter is awesome! RCA plugs into my old camcorder, HDMI plugs into my TV, give it some power and we’re rolling! It’s great fun to reminisce – the picture quality isn’t superb, but we’re talking really old technology on a 4K screen now, we’ve just become accustomed to clarity and greatness. This should work for a lot of older tech, VCR’s, game systems, or older DVD player. This does go only one way, you can’t go HDMI to RCA, but I can’t imagine why anyone would want to do that. Overall this is a great adapter to have, I’m glad it’s such a simple tool to use and if you’re looking to be able to watch old stuff on your new tech this is the way to do it!

I used this converter to attach a Nintendo Wii to my daughter's newer TV. It worked perfectly to revisit some old games that we had not played in years. I also have a PlayStation that I might dust off! Video quality overall was good. Given the low resolution input, the video was much sharper than I was expecting with decent color. My biggest issue is that the contrast could be better; lighter colors and backgrounds look a bit washed out. Adjusting the TV contrast did help and it is more than adequate for my needs, but not perfect. Audio is clear with good volume and no noise. I really appreciated that Insignia includes a USB power adapter and a 6-ft USB-C cable. This is sadly a rarity these days. Set and use are simple, with a power light, inputs (USB power and RCA), HDMI output, and a 720/1080p selector switch. I did not notice any difference in the 720/1080p selection, so I went with my TV's native resolution of 1080p. It also stays cool to the touch, even after hours of being plugged in (I still disconnect it when I don't plan to to use it for a while).

What I needed to see old VHS tapes!

The Insignia RCA to HDMI converter is a great thing to have if you need to connect your older RCA connected electronics to a newer TV/monitor which doesn't have RCA ports, but does have HDMI. Personally, I have been trying to figure out how to connect my older Wii console/game and my Go Video (with VHS) to my new OLED TV. I know other people, as well as myself, have old VHS tapes with no way to watch them and older gaming consoles with no way to play them. This totally solved my problems! Do you gave an older DVD player that doesn't have HDMI output? It probably has RCA jacks, so this converter will solve that issue for you. Know that you can only convert one way - only RCA to HDMI, NOT the other way around. They sell converters that go the other way as well. Make sure you buy the one you need. So easy to get started and use this converter. In the box you get the RCA (input) to HDMI (output) converter, a 6 foot USB-A to USB-C cable and a power adapter. They do not supply either the HDMI cable or RCA. Plug your HDMI cable into the output slot with the other end plugged into your TV, monitor, etc. Then, plug the RCA end into the input side making sure to match the red, yellow and white plugs with their corresponding holes, with the other end plugged into your older electronics: game console, VCR etc. Then, get your power either using the enclosed usb cable to a power source such as your laptop or the provided power plug. The other end of the cable is placed into the USB-C port on the converter. That’s it - you’re ready to go. It works! I found there to be some video & sound degradation. I can’t know whether that is due to the converter or the VHS tape being very old, or just showing the incredible advances in recording since the video was made. All I know is that the quality was ok for me. Without this converter, I wouldn’t be able to see the videos of my kids growing up, my mom & dad and other family & friends throughout my early life. The Insignia RCA to HDMI converter works well. It does exactly what you expect and I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a way to connect their older electronics (RCA) to newer displays (HDMI). An aside, the outer packaging comes from "sustainably sourced paper" which is just a bonus for me.

I was skeptical that this would work. My mom is the only person I know who still owns a functioning VCR! When I purchased a new television for her, she lost her RCA ports on the TV. This device did the trick. Simple connection … SUCCESS! (The price could be a little lower.)

Not great for SNES or older consoles

The Insignia RCA to HDMI converter is a handy device. In scenarios where you’re stuck with component cables for an older device, or random retro gaming device, this can be great. While a good utility, there are some details to explore. Out of the box, you’ll find the Insignia to be a fairly straight forward device. It offers the standard component video port (yellow), and left/right audio ports (white/red). There’s an HDMI cable in the box, as well as a USB power supply that’s sufficient for powering the device. The good news is you can probably safely ignore that power supply if your TV has USB ports, as it’s only 500ma, which is the standard power output for most USB ports. On the device you’ll find a switch that swaps between 1080p and 720p. I’d switch this only to 720p if the TV I’m outputting to is natively that resolution. Audio quality is top notch. The conversion from analog to digital seems pretty flawless. I did do detailed testing, but I didn’t notice any sync issues or lag with either the video or audio. Overall I found this to be a positive aspect in every regard. Video quality is an interesting subject. In some ways, if your TV has a composite input (and it’s from an era when there was a bit of optimization around those inputs), you might be better off with the native input on your TV. My use case was connecting my original SNES to my TV. While my old Sony 4k TV from 2016 does have a really good composite input as well as a component input, it’s beginning to die. The TV that will replace it has no legacy video ports, which means I need to find a way to get the 240p component input from the SNES to the TV. This is a first step to finding that solution. While high end expensive solutions exist (such as ones that take the native RGB for 240p and upscale to 480p HDMI), those tend to be expensive and hard to get your hands on. So with my specific use case out of the way, what did I find? Well, the video quality isn’t bad, but it isn’t quite as good as composite inputs that are tuned for the era. I found the video to be overly pixelated, seeming to encode detail in a way that’s probably more optimized for 480i signals. For instance on Mario Kart, the results screen red bar at the top had a dotted line on both the top and bottom, which on the composite input was a solid (if a bit blurrier) red line. Reference images show that this should be a solid and not dotted line, which indicate that something is awry on the video conversion. So if this device doesn’t handle the 240p upconversion well, what could it work well for? Well a PS2/3/Wii would probably be a good test. Unfortunately I don’t have a composite cable for my Wii. A DVD player, or other 480i device would probably convert a bit better. Overall I was disappointed with this device. For the price I would have loved to see it handle lower resolution content and upscaling better. Virtual scan lines for older retro consoles would be great to see as well with LCD's being the target. Unfortunately this device for my use case of a classic console just doesn’t work well at all, although you may find it better for your use cases based on other feedback.

Like many of us, we have a lifetime of memories on VHS tape from the good old days. It was nice to get this and begin to digitize my VHS tapes before they completely deteriorate. Don't expect 4KUHD video quality but I run it in the 1080p mode and it produces acceptable quality video. It's an interface device not a video processor so that's not its job. The RCA connection is a no brainer as is the HDMI end that goes to your digital TV. Very good price and it does the job as expected.
