Good Replacement Remote

I recently got the TCL QM9K TV, and I wanted to have a 2nd remote on hand and decided to pick up the Insignia Replacement remote. Inside the box came the remote, 2 AAA batteries and an instruction manual.
What struck me first, right out of the box was that the remote could instantly control my tv without needing to do anything other than inserting the batteries. As someone who has had my fair share of issues with using universal remotes and pairing them to another device, this was a blessing not needing to deal with any complicated pairing or setup. From my understanding the remote came pro-programmed to work with most modern TCL tv’s.
The design and button layout of this replacement remote closely mirrors that of the original. This can be seen in one of my attached photos, where the replacement is on the left (black) and the original on the right(silver). This leads to you not needing to relearn any button placements. Also despite the remote feeling quite light it does seem to have a durable build.
All of the mirrored buttons worked as you would expect them to right out of the box. Additionally there are 4 Programmable buttons at the bottom of the remote (A, B, C, D). They were already aligned with the corresponding buttons on the original so I did not need to reprogram them but if you want to, those instructions are available.
There are a few expected drawbacks to this remote. The remote uses IR instead of Bluetooth, so you will need to point the remote directly at the tv to control it. Additionally there is no mic on the remote to do voice control (I’m sure that will be a plus for a few people).
Overall if you're looking for a simple and very affordable replacement remote or you’re just interested in having a 2nd remote for your TCL tv that mirrors ~75% of the original remote, you can’t go wrong with this choice.

Good Option, NO Bluetooth

Overall it is a great replacement, or in my situation, secondary remote.
Depending on your TCL, most of their remotes these days are Bluetooth enabled, unfortunately the Insignia is not.
I’m assuming for most people this isn’t an issue, but in my situation, when I mounted my TV, I was about 2 inches lower than I meant to be, and my soundbar blocks the IR reader, so I have to hold the remote high to get around the soundbar. The OEM TCL remote being bluetooth does not have this issue.
On a positive note, every button is programmable on the Insignia remote, so I just programmed it to control the Vizio Soundbar volume. I am running an optical connection, which TCL apparently does not allow Volume control over optical like my last TV a Hisense does. So in this category, the Insignia wins over the OEM TCL.
Out-Of-The-Box the remote worked and there was no programming necessary for any of the features.
The quick launch keys A-B-C-D where already pre-programmed.
A = Netflix
B = YouTube
C = Amazon Prime
D = TCL TV+
Which for “D” is redundant as there is already a dedicated a TCL TV+ button, so I reprogrammed it to Disney+.
This was a way different approach than I have used on Universal remotes in the past. You don't code the key to an app, you actually code it to a command set.
For example, you start on the Home Screen at the Home position. The App row is 3 rows down from the Main Tab Menu, Disney+ was then the third app in the app row, so my command was
down, down, down, right, right, OK.
However, if you move the position of the Disney+ app, whatever app is now in that position (3rd) will be the app the remote opens coded to that quick launch key.
So, just something to keep in mind.
You can code up 15 moves, of which 4 are already going to be occupied by down, down, down , and OK, leaving only 11 moves.

Excellent replacement remote

I needed a replacement remote for my TCL google TV since the original one was misplaced. Instead of buying a replacement remote from TCL, I picked up the Insignia TCL replacement remote, model NS-RMTTCL25 from Best Buy. The great thing about the Insignia is the layout is nearly identical to the original TCL remote.
Among the standard TCL buttons for controlling the TCL TV, there are four buttons with the letters A through D on them. These buttons can be customized and come preprogrammed. Button A is for Netflix, B is for YouTube, C is for Prime Video and D is for TCL TV+ service. That makes it easy to use right out of the box. The buttons are a little larger than the TCL’s original remote as is the remote itself.
The remote can be configured to work your soundbar, AV receiver or speaker’s volume control. You can also set up simple macros as well.
There are a couple of omissions on the Insignia remote that are on the original, such as backlit or a microphone to make searching easier. These two omissions do not diminish the overall usability of this replacement remote though.
For the reasonable price that the Insignia replacement remote goes for, this is a great deal for a full functioning replacement for my TCL TV’s original remote. This is a no brainer to recommend!

Easy option for a replacement remote

The remote is labeled as being for TCL televisions and it worked right out of the box without needing to be programmed for me. The instructions show how to reprogram all buttons as needed. In order to reprogram the buttons other than the app ones, you will need the original remote. I have a TCL QM9K television and all the buttons on this remote function just as the original except for the buttons to open apps. The Insignia remotes app buttons aren't labeled with the app name but open apps that I would use most. These buttons can be changed to open different apps if needed also. In addition to working the television, the app can be programmed to operate a sound bar or other sound receiver. The booklet that comes with the remote contains codes to do so. Batteries are included with the remote so no need for an additional purchase. My TV gets lots of use and my remotes tend to get a little banged up so I like knowing I can use this as a primary remote and keep the original set aside as a backup. The only wish I had was for the buttons to light up but it is not a deal breaker.

I have young kids and they for some reason like drop the remotes and I think it’s probably best to have a nice back up. So with that being said, I decided to give this insignia replacement remote for tcl TVs a shot. Right out of the box, it works with all the main functions and has programmable buttons aka shortcuts. They are easy to set to your favorite streaming services. I use the corresponding color for the apps like red for Netflix and green for Hulu lol. Works great and looks similar to my original (still works) although my original is backlit and I know that if this remote was backlit it would more than likely cost double and at the retail price it’s very fair compared to getting a generic brand for that other e commerce site. Like I said this work great right out the box and programming is easy plus this is very cost effective if you either lose the original or like me my kids might break the original. I’d recommend also know that insignia is owned by Bestbuy so you know it’s going to be of quality. Even comes with the needed batteries which is much appreciated.

Handy replacement remote, but not back lit.

This Insignia replacement remote control for TCL TV's is very handy to have, especially if you have misplaced your original remote.
The remote is sturdy, the plastics are strong and somewhat tactile in your hand, however, the remote is not as ergonomic as the OEM TCL remote. This is very boxy and 'functional' rather than designed with the original in mind.
The buttons are larger than the OEM remote and feel a little childish compared to the original that it replaces. Not to say that it isn't functional, but it is lacking from a design perspective and is purely there for function. And to that end, it does work well. The original commands are there, helping you intuitively change channel, change volume, change inputs etc. and also has the dedicated settings, profile and other TCL menu buttons.
It appears that licensing for the streaming service brands is not available, so those 'dedicated' buttons now have A, B, C and D on them respectively and you can program them to work as those functions instead of having the brands printed on the buttons.
I think one of the biggest draw backs to this remote is the lack of it being back lit. I use my 98" TCL TV in a blacked-out media room. So, to that end, having a back lit remote, just like the OEM one is a lot more useful than this Insignia replacement remote. That makes it tougher to use in a darkened environment, such as a media room. If you are using this remote in a standard living room, bedroom etc., where lighting isn't an issue, then you shouldn't have a problem with it not being back lit, but for me, it was pretty much a deal breaker for constant day to day use.
Overall, this is a decent replacement remote, it isn't as well designed or ergonomic as the original, but it is functional, with all of the key buttons available by default to use your TCL TV as you normally would. I would love to see this remote with back lit keys, that would change this remote drastically.
The remote does come with AAA batteries included and also a quick start guide to get you going. I did NOT have to do any special coding right out of the box, I simply took the remote up to my media room and it worked right away as soon as the batteries were installed, so as a quick replacement with no hassle set up, then this works just fine.

Good, not great, remote for TCL TV

The Insignia Replacement Remote for TCL TVs does its job. This was relatively easy to pair with my TV following the instructions in the included Quick Setup Guide. It didn't work right out of the box, but with a simple process, it was able to pair. No more punching in numbers until you find one that will turn your TV off/on - this remote does that for you. I have a TCL-ROKU TV and with some adjustments, this remote works, for the most part. For instance, the TCL-ROKU remote features a play/pause button and forward & reverse buttons. I found (through trial and error) that the OK button on this remote will pause, and then return the TV to play, the right and left arrows will forward and reverse. There is a need for the asterisk (*) on the TCL-ROKU TV, and I was able to program the TV Plus button (unneeded for me) to the asterisk via the old fashioned IR learning method. However, had I not still had the original remote, I would not have been able to do that programming. That could be a problem for some people. The TCL-ROKU TV remote is virtually a ROKU remote. I also have a TCL-Google TV and this remote did work right off the bat with that - no programming needed. The 4 shortcut buttons automatically programmed to the same 4 apps on the original remote and in the same order. Yes, that's a good thing, BUT... to change those 4 buttons to any apps, you have to program it step by step. You would first need to figure out the sequence, for example: "home right right right down down OK", or whatever it is and then you would program that sequence. Then the remote wouldn't go directly to the new app - it would follow: "home right right right down down OK" step by step. If anything ever gets changed along the way (app deleted for example), then the programming would be off and would need to be redone. Yes, a tad confusing. Otherwise, it works. As for the comfort of this remote - it is rather boxy and wide, the buttons are squishy so that it takes effort to press them (if you have arthritis in your hands, it will hurt to press) and there is no indentation on the back for easy gripping - it is slippery to hold.
The Insignia Replacement Remote for TCL TVs is a good, not great, replacement remote for a TCL TV. It works or it can be made to mostly work: if yours is a TCL-ROKU TV, you will run into some issues, but they are manageable issues. Otherwise, it seems to program quite well with my TCL Google TV. The feel and fit of this remote is lacking to me and the buttons are too squishy. Would I recommend this - probably not. There are likely better options out there.

I have an older receiver without ARC so my new tv remote would not control anything on it, forcing me to have 2 remotes. This remote has the identical button layout as the tv remote but allows me to also control my receiver. Now I am back to using 1 remote. Perfect

We got this for our son for his TCL Roku TV since his original remote wouldn't work. I was skeptical about this remote working since it wasn't a "Roku" remote. However, he is so happy with this. It does everything his original remote did, but, he said he likes it because it does what it's supposed to do. He said when he hits the power button, it turns on/off. he doesn't have to keep repeatedly hitting it. He was so excited when he saw this in his stocking.

Not for TLC Fire TV

Got this as a backup for my TLC tv, but it’s a TLC fire TV. First instructions talk about setting up with google TV, which I don’t have. So I tried the manual setup which programs the remote since I still have the old one, but that didn’t work. I pressed the buttons, and pressed the buttons on my old one and it didn’t transfer. Tried a few times and failed, so couldn’t get this to work. So now I have a remote but its just a piece of plastic I cannot use. Interesting too that if the remote doesn’t work for your TV, you need to program it with the old remote (might work with a google one). But if you lost the old one, you’re out a luck.
The actual feel of it was decent, but it just don’t work with my TV. And I wish the setup was easier too, like press buttons based on your TV type to make it work. Instead, you have to press buttons and power and then hope it works, and if not try and manually connect it. OVERALL though I guess you’re better off getting the original remote as this might not work, especially if you’re missing the old remote.

Its only for TCL, but when my TCL original remote began going through battery sets every other day, I had to do something!
The Insignia Remote works well and actually programed my Samsung soundbar to work with the TV! Simple to program and to use, even my girlfriend likes it!!
