This is quite a bargain at its $20 price. The programming was simple and easy. Just turn your TV on, press two buttons on the remote, and when the power button stops flashing flash, hold the power button until your TV turns off and release the button. That’s it! It runs through the possible codes until the match to your set is found and the process is complete. I have one of TCL’s newest models with Google TV as its operating system, and the button layout is nearly identical and fully functional. There's no re-learning. There's no tedious guesswork on what buttons do what. Even the symbols are a match to the orginal. The four programable buttons (A,B,C,D) where set to Netflix, YouTube, Prime, and TCL+, but you can reassign them as you please. At the price, it’s obviously not going to completely match the factory remote. The build quality and look are what you’d expect for a generic replacement. There's no backlighting, no mic built in, and no Bluetooth. You need a good line of sight to the bottom of the screen for the IR to work. The bottom line is that It’s easy to program, works flawlessly, and a bargain. That’s a win/win for a replacement remote.

It's a nice duplicate remote, but I have not been able to make it work. I even called customer service and they charged my Credit Card $38.00. I really am disappointed that I couldn't use the remote!

    Easy to Use Replacement Remote

The Insignia Replacement Remote for TCL TVs – Black is a basic replacement that is similar to the original TCL/Roku remote and works right out of the box for most TCL sets. Setup is easy: insert AAA batteries and it immediately controls power, volume, and navigation with reliable IR response at typical living room distances. The remote lacks voice search and backlighting so it is not a premium smart remote. The matte, slim body is comfortable and avoids smudges, while the familiar button layout keeps the learning curve low. Four programmable shortcut keys and IR learning let you launch favorite apps or even trigger an HDMI input or soundbar with a single press, reducing remote clutter. I recommend the the Insignia Replacement Remote for TCL TVs – Black as a replacement remote for TCL TVs although the addition of backlighting and voice search would be an improvement. TCL TVs have made great strides in recent years and a remote with even more features would make a welcome addition.

Bought a 50” TCL for our bedroom and wanted a backup remote for when my wife loses the main one in the covers…again. This remove arrived as expected and was packaged well. Opened it up, plugged in the batteries that were provided and started using it right away. It instantly connected without having to enter codes or trying to sync it. Look and Feel – It’s a simple remote. Nothing fancy but it has all the features that are needed. The buttons are responsive, and it has a clean look. Most of the buttons are bigger for easy feel in the dark (they are not back lit). Function – Like I said above. The buttons are responsive. It can be programmed as well to your audio components. We programmed it for our Polk soundbar with no issues. Everything I’ve tried to do with it TV wise has worked and because it’s a simple design you don’t have to guess what the buttons do…it’s easy to figure out. Bad – The only complaint is that it does not have backlit buttons…but I knew that when I got it so it doesn’t affect the rating. Overall – this is a very effective and functional remote. For the price you can’t really beat if to a TCL replacement remote. It works great!

This is my first brand specific replacement remote control. Out of the box I waa able to control my tv without needing to pair or program it. The remote is made of pretty generic feeling plastics, whereas the remote that came with my tv felt metallic and had some weight to it. The buttons on this remote are a great size and have a sure feel to them when pressed. Overall I wouldn’t say this remote feels cheaply made, it does feel like quality. It just would have been nice to have it look similar to the remotes included with the tvs. The four function buttons map to apps built into the tv also. I use a separate streaming device with my tv so I don't really use them. The other benefit to using a brand specific remote is that the other function buttons work seamlessly also. This remote is more than adequate if you need a replacement for a TCL tv. It doesn’t need extra effort and while it’s not a high end feeling device, it does a great job. I would definitely recommend this remote as a replacement. Or maybe even as a second remote for either end of the sofa.

    TCL replacement remote that works

I own 2 TCL TVs. One has Roku smart app integrated while the other doesn't have any type of built-in system. This is the one that was missing a functional remote control. So, after unpacking everything, which includes the remote, a set of batteries and a nice quick start guide which explains all the functions and how to pair the remote to your TCL TV. There are 2 ways to make the connection, the first one being the TV automatically recognizing your TV properly and you're basically done. The other involves a bit of button holding and pushing but it will lead you to a proper connection with the TV. Note that if your TV has any kind of smart OS such as Roku, you will need a different remote as this one will not work with it (look for a Roku TV replacement which you can get for cheap from Best Buy). In terms of design and feel, it's great and the remote seems solid and the buttons are reactive and comfortable. I do not know how long the batteries last since I haven't had it long enough to measure, but I estimate that you'll need replacement once or twice a year as it is with most other remotes. All in all, it's a great replacement and it works as advertised, without hurting your wallet too much. Recommended.

The perfect replacement remote for TCL TV owners.

This Insignia Replacement Remote is the perfect replacement TV Remote for TCL TV owners. It is made by Best Buy’s Insignia brand which is just as good as other brands and in some cases I have found their products to be slightly better than some brand name products at a significantly cheaper and more affordable price. This is not a universal remote and you must own a TCL TV to use it. But with that being said, if you are in need of a replacement remote and own a TCL TV, this is the remote for you. In my case, I wanted to have a backup remote and this remote exceeded what I needed. It works right out of the box. I simply inserted the included batteries and pointed it at the TV. To my astonishment, all of the buttons worked; no need to program it. All of the common features that I use on the original TCL TV remote are on this replacement remote. There are even four quick access buttons that are preprogrammed and can be programmed to your liking. It allows you to quickly access your favorite app. It is light in weight and easy to hold in hand. It has a familiar TCL remote feel in use and practicality. I wish it had backlighting and labels for the preprogrammed quick access/easy shortcut buttons. Overall, this is the ideal replacement remote for most TCL TV’s. I highly recommend this remote.

    Just Another TCL Replacement Remote

I think this remote was very easy to use but I had to read the instructions. This is not something you can just pop the batteries in and figure out. You have to clone the other remote. It was very nice that the entire process took less than 5 minutes and I was able to use the new remote promptly. Remote Design: The only drawback is the design of the remote is not appealing. The buttons used to clone are large, these buttons are only used once for cloning. So it being large and at the bottom of the remote makes the remote ugly and larger in design than necessary. Performance / Usability: I did not notice any button delay while using the remote and response time was good. I think the remote should have came with the usual Netflix, Amazon, and other streaming service buttons. I did not understand some of the button's label or it's purpose either. I will def still use my original remote more and will use this remote as a backup (not replacement) and/or out-of-battery situations. Overall, I did not give this remote 2 stars because if it's price and the easy setup. I did not try on other TV brands (not sure if it works on other TVs) as I only have a TCL TV only.

Did not work with my TCL TV out of the box

Got this remote the other day as a spare. We have a TCL smart TVs in the house and wanted to use this as a backup. After popping in the batteries (that were nicely included) the power button would light up when pressed, but nothing would happen. Tried multiple times, confirmed the TV was fine with my original remote, but no luck. I even tried on other brand TVs in the house and nothing on those either. I pulled out the instructions and did the factory reset, still no luck. Performed the manual programming per the instructions (aligning the IR transmitter to the original remote) and got the power and a couple other buttons to finally work. I’m not doing this for each button. This should have worked fine out of the box. Maybe my TV is too old (6 year old TCL 55” Roku TV), but codes should work out of box since listed specifically as a TCL remote.
