I just started with Insteon after 15 plus years using X10 automation controls. Insteon works great! It is reliable and many more types of modules are available. I received my kit a couple of weeks ago. It was a breeze to setup. I popped a battery in the Insteon leak detector and linked it to my hub. Placed it on the floor in the basement near the water heater. 5 days later I received an email from the FREE Insteon system server. Leak Event on...... I went down stairs and sure enough there was a small puddle from the 7 year old water heater. Last time the water heater let go we did not know until the neighbor called that their adjoining condo basement was flooding, from my leak. If for no other reason, buy the Insteon Assurance Kit and save a lot of work and damage. I just finished installing my new water heater, without a flood!

I tried about 4 other products including Wemo, Smarthings, Staples Connect and all of them worked no more then about 60 to 70% of the time. With Insteon, I get near 100% consistency. I loved this package so much, I wanted to buy it again for my second home, but Best Buy wouldn't allow me to repurchase it again at the sale price I bought it the first time. 5 stars for Insteon hardware, 4 stars for the Insteon app and 2 stars for Best Buy, so I gave 4 stars overall.

We needed to secure a room with IT equipment during construction phase and found this worked great in a pinch. Easy to setup, alerts to room access and email notifications. We later purchased a camera to place directly in the server room but found the Insteon model was far to low resolution to be viable. If you're self monitoring and just want notifications, this will do it.

I would give this system 5 stars if I could get multiple on and off times for the lamp control, instead I connected the motion detector so that the lights turn on when we go through the family room. It's not as easy and intuitive to run but it gets the job done after tinkering with it for awhile.

This was the beginning of converting my whole home to being a "smart home". I really wish a local store, Best Buy, Home Depot, etc carried MORE of the products other than just starter kits and random items as I would prefer to spend locally instead of the internet to get more items.

This kit comes with first gen hub. The new hub is smaller and the latest version. The hub pro is available for pre order and works with apple home kit

It makes it safer to know if someone is entering your home or not when you're not home.

Good peace of mind that when I am away, I will know when a door is opened or the motion sensor triggers and sends me an email....... probably will get the night vision camera next.

Great for beginners. I upgraded to another interface for more advanced features though.
