Set up was pretty easy but the instructions for port forwarding so you can view outside your wifi network are vague. You must port forward the hub and also the camera to work properly. The thermostat DOES NOT WORK WITH HEAT PUMPS. I still can't get the door sensor to activate the plug ins. Again vague instructions. I think it's a great product but might have been better off buying piece by piece since I can't use half of what's in the box

Great features like texting you when a door opens and you're not home. You can adjust thermostat from bed on your cell app versus walking across a cold house. The 4 versus five star is due to the difficulty in setting up port forwarding in order to access the system when away from home.

The Insteon Leak detector paid for the whole kit, saving me from a week of work if the basement alert Insteon emailed me after it detected a leak from our water heater! Last time the our water heater let go, a ajdjasent neighbor called to say we were flooding their basement! This time Insteon was on the case!

The hardware works well. The software however leaves something to be desired. There are COTS systems that are 100 plus that will run the system better.

Good start up package for starting your home automation.

I purchased a starter kit, with camera, some sensors and some dimmers, and was very excited about the price. Once I unpacked it, i was impressed as to compact nature of the hub, and the quality of the products. Where i ran into problems was when I tried to connect the sensors to the hub. The camera worked great, but I ran into communication errors on every sensor and dimmer. I called Insteon customer support, and they told me that I had a hub 1 and I needed to upgrade to a hub 2. Not accepting that answer I dug deeper, called Insteon customer support again, called Smarthome (their main retailer) and still had no luck. After a few white russians I relaxed and did a google search for "insteon failed to connect" and that brought me to a site on Insteon support that said all I needed was to do a buffer update and it worked beautifully. They do everything I want them to now. App works great, everything communicates. Im still working on setting up scenes, but that is the easy part.

I purchased this kit for the wide range of supported products. The cam works great and even sends me snapshots to my email when motion is detected. I have the leak sensor under a large aquarium and setup to alert me of any leaks. Overall all the components work as expected to automate lights in my rooms. Already have purchased additional hd cams and dimmer switches. All is working flawless

I got it home I was eager hook it up I paid for somebody to come out and rewire my current thermostats to except the new one. The thermostat worked fine but the hub will not connect. I could see it on the network but the apps were not working for. I tried it for my iPhone my android phone my windows phone and my iPad. When I called Insteon they told me that it was a bad device and I needed to return it through them they said that I needed to buy new device for $100 and that they would reimburse me once they got the other one returned them. They told me not to go through Best Buy but the only go through them. I was able to return the item to Best Buy and they swapped it out for the same one no issues whatsoever. I've got to try the new one. BTW... The whole time for Insta Jan support was over an hour.
