I update my computer core components only once in a great while. When I do, I try to get as much bang-for-the-buck that I can for a limited budget. (Yes, AMD makes great stuff, for a host or reasons I went Intel). For a little bit less I could have gone 13th gen, but stepping up from a 14 yrs old 2nd gen Sandy Bridge, I wanted the latest for the next 14 years. So the real angst was i9 or i7. Given that I could drop in an i9 at some point in the future, and I was budget shopping, i went with the i7. You can read all about the differences elsewhere. I decided I wouldn't see the performance difference in my use.
The biggest question you may have is that yes, it can run hot (according to the onboard sensors). However, this is only at maximum load which is not a common occurrence through daily usage and gaming and is not noticed other than to hear the fans spin up. I made sure all the latest mainboard and CPU firmwares were installed before starting up. The system has never locked, randomly rebooted, or blue screened. Right now I am running everything at base level configuration. Maybe someday I'll see what a little OC'ing will do. but for now, the generational performance boosts are more than enough.

Upgraded to this from a 12900k, only did so because i was having problems with my 12900k, other than that i wouldn’t upgrade. Even with 8 fans and a 280mm nzxt AIO, it instantly thermal throttles during cinebench. Compared to my 12900k that doesn’t thermal throttle during a 10 minute run. If you plan on only gaming, i would get a 7800x3d over this all day for the better power efficiency and less power draw. But if you’re gonna be doing any kind of productivity work, the 14700k is the clear winner while only being around 3-4% slower in 1440p and 4k gaming. I got this for $380 so not much more than 7800x3d. Hits mid 50s during gaming and idles in the 30s. Actually runs surprisingly hotter than my 12900k which already ran hot. If you’re using a 12th gen or 13th gen cpu and upgrade to this, be sure to update your bios beforehand or you won’t be able to boot.

The Intel Core i7-14700K is a 14th Gen processor that offers excellent performance for both gaming and productivity tasks. It has 20 cores and 28 threads, with a base clock of 4.3GHz and a boost clock of 5.6GHz. It also supports PCIe 5.0 and 4.0, DDR5 and DDR4 memory, and Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0.
I was impressed by how fast and smooth this processor ran on my system. It handled multiple applications and games without any lag or stuttering. It also scored well on various benchmarks, such as Cinebench R23 and 3DMark Time Spy. The processor was easy to install on my motherboard, which is compatible with Intel 700 and 600 series chipsets.
The only downside of this processor is that it consumes a lot of power and generates a lot of heat. It has a processor base power of 125W and a maximum turbo power of 253W. It also requires a good cooling solution, as it can overheat with a 240mm water cooler. I would recommend getting a high-quality air cooler or a larger liquid cooler to keep the temperatures in check.
Overall, I think the Intel Core i7-14700K is a great processor for anyone who wants a powerful and versatile CPU. It offers a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Intel Core i7-13700K, and it comes at the same price of $409. It is an attractive upgrade for older LGA 1700 systems, and a worthy competitor to AMD’s Ryzen processors. If you are looking for a processor that can handle any task you throw at it, you should definitely consider the Intel Core i7-14700K.

The Intel Core i7-14700K is a powerhouse of a processor, offering impressive performance across the board. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Right out of the box, the i7-14700K delivers outstanding speed and responsiveness, making it a fantastic choice for gaming, content creation, and multitasking. With its high core count and clock speeds, it handles demanding applications and heavy workloads with ease. The performance boost is noticeable compared to previous generations, and it pairs well with high-end GPUs for a top-tier gaming experience.
The processor’s efficiency is another highlight. Intel’s new architecture provides excellent power management, and the integrated graphics are a nice bonus for lighter tasks or troubleshooting without a dedicated GPU.
However, the price point is where the i7-14700K stumbles a bit. While it’s a top performer, its cost can be a tough pill to swallow, especially when compared to competitors like AMD’s Ryzen X3D series. The Ryzen X3D offers similar, if not better, performance in some cases, often at a more competitive price. This pricing discrepancy might make the i7-14700K a less attractive option for budget-conscious builders.
In summary, the Intel Core i7-14700K is a stellar processor with top-notch performance and efficiency. It’s a solid choice for high-end builds, but the price could be a limiting factor when compared to rivals like the Ryzen X3D. If you’re looking for peak performance and can justify the cost, it’s definitely worth considering.

The Intel Core i7-14700K is a standout processor in Intel's 13th generation lineup, offering excellent performance for gaming and professional tasks. It features a mix of 8 Performance-cores and 4 Efficient-cores, enabling efficient multitasking and application handling. With high base and turbo boost clock speeds, it excels in demanding scenarios. Compatible with the LGA 1700 socket, it supports PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 memory, aligning with the latest tech standards. However, its high power consumption necessitates good cooling solutions. Overall, the i7-14700K is a powerful choice for those looking to balance performance and cutting-edge features.
After updates to bios I’ve come back to team Blue.

With intel/asus bios improvements I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how good this has been. I had to undervolt it a bit to keep the temps down but they weren’t unreasonable to begin with, I was just used to the 55-60 amd x3d temps.

Honestly it's a really good CPU. Got it recommended to me for my 5060 ti and I'm loving it! Running Marvel's Spider-Man at 120 fps with no drops and it's amazing. Highly recommend if you're a mid-tier PC user like I am.

Upgrading from a i5-12600k, there were massive improvements to performance. Have run consistently for a month and no issues to note. The CPU runs hot under load but stays within expected range under stress test

Here is whay I think of the 14700K and its Sibling the 14900k . 1st and foremost dont overclock it It is fast as you can get it in fact I would underclock it and Undervolt it. We all know heat kills electronics but to put 400 watts plus on a computer Chip is insane . I killed a 3770 k by overvolting . I have never killed a cpu because of heat in fact they start throtling when the Heat is on. The problem here is If you need productivity then get the 14900 K buy gaming @ say 5.4 Ghz on all P cores is more than ebought to keep up with 4090 RTX and have all settings to max
Of you only game the 14700 k os the same thing just less cores .
Both of them are beast just make sure you undervolt if not you will fry them

Upgraded from a 12600k and i am extremely happy, Noticeable difference in gaming and productivity. I updated bios prior to installation and i have the CPU undervolted. Under full load i dont go above 80 degrees and in gaming im around 50-60 degrees. No issues thankfully and i hope it stays that way. Loving it!

I bought this processor to replace a 13th Gen I9 processor and have been quite happy with it. My experience with the older I9 processor was mostly positive, except for the ongoing intermittent issue of the PC freezing and crashing. I am currently in the process of submitting a RMA for this I9 processor which does not seem to be a quick process.
So, I bought this I7 processor since uses the same LGA 1700 socket and I did not need to buy a new motherboard. I have ran every benchmark test on this chip, played multiple games, host several applications, and have not had any of the issues I previously experienced with the previous CPU. I have been very happy with this processor and I would recommend it to anyone looking for solid performing CPU without the high price tag.

They've fixed so many issues on this cpu. This cpu is super powerful allowing you to game without bottlenecking cpu wise for a long time and the productivity is amazing. Don't rely on the just "the numbers", get this for the reliability and because its convenient.

This is a very toasty little cpu. It thermal throttles at full load on my Liquid Freezer III 280mm AiO at stock. I just put a -0.100 offset on my core voltage, and now it runs in the mid-80s (on average) in Cinebench with a higher score. I'm not skilled enough yet to tune by frequency, but undervolting is definitely the way to go. I got it on sale and decided to upgrade.

Great chip, great price on sale. The LGA 1700 socket is done for. I would recommend at least a 240mm AIO. I tried using this with a Noctua air cooler and it was not only inadequate for gaming, but also sounded like a bee-hive while it was trying to keep up.

Because of all the x3d propaganda this guy is very under rated. Upgraded from a 9900k and im happy. Totally recommend atleast 7200 ddr5 though total sweet spot for this processor. Dont sleep on this cpu.
