Depending on the device you use, your hdmi out will not have a strong enough signal to display correctly on a projector. I connected my Chromebook to a VGA projector using this adapter and had to run power using the micro usb connection.

After searching the internet I found this one at Best Buy. It is reasonably priced and works perfectly so now I have the laptop screen and a larger 22 inch screen above the laptop.

I was able to temporarily use a 15 year old flat panel LCD on my new pc build.
