Useless adaptor: Hot, ethernet crashes, NG HDMI

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought 2 JCD383 (2 laptops / users) and could not connect to our external 22in monitors through HDMI cable (note: Cable works perfectly if connected directly without the adapter). I sent my ticket to J5 Create, and after several communications, the solution is to buy JCD 381 because our new laptops ( i7 Lenovo Flex 5-15 ITL 82HT) seem to be unfit to the adapter: I quote "C port is Gen1", "Your computer does not have display port alternate mode", "I recommend you buy JCD 381". I am not an expert, but certainly not convinced with these answers, Now I cannot even return the product as BBuy policy is 14 days, and currently in Mexico. On the other hand (as many other reviewers have written), the temperature of the adapter gets very high (hot), not warm but hot, and related or not to the temperature, continuity of the ethernet connection is also an issue. It frequently disconnects you from the internet when using the adapter. So, I have 2 adapters, cannot use them, cannot return them, and not even sure they are faulty to even try to return them to the manufacturer. I honestly do not recommend this product at all.

Posted .Hello, we're sorry to hear the Multi Adapter is not working properly with your computer. Unfortunately, the Lenovo has a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 but does not state if the port will also support DisplayPort for video output and Power Delivery for pass-through charge. The device is expected to observe that the aluminum shell of the USB-C hub gets warmer, especially if the USB-C pass-through charging, Ethernet and/or all ports on the hub are utilized. Please note that hotter operating temperatures can be expected. However, if it is a concern to you, please contact our representatives and they'll be glad to assist you further. Respectfully, j5.

Occasionally it can get a little temperamental when you first connect it to get the hdmi to work but overall can’t complain for the price. Beats buying an actual $200+ docking station.

I was worried about the connector being made out of a rubber material that could possibly still move around while connected to the laptop. Thankfully, this connector is made out of a nice plastic that ensures it won't fidget out of place!

Great product for the computer desk

Needed an adapter to help her ease from one screen to another at our home office. I was not aware of the product's manufacturer, but the product was cost efficient and has worked like a charm! Great multi Adapter!!

I use the HDMI port to connect my laptop to my 28" monitor and still have ports to connect my printer and my USB stick, etc. Very useful purchase!

Great Multi-Port Hub

Gives a very good picture quality when you connect a laptop to a monitor using this hub. Automatically adjusts screen resolution. I liked it so much that I bought another one for the second work station at home.

There is no reason BB cant allow just a certain number of customer into the store to shop for whatever they need if they are so worried then only allow people in wearing masks and gloves.. needless to say all the other items I needed I walked into office depot and was able to look and pick out what I wanted

I'm so sorry to hear that you had this experience. I know that Best Buy is doing what they can in order to protect their employees and sometimes that can cause frustration for the customers. Unfortunately it takes up to 72 hours for the website to update since that isn't done in the individual store so what the website shows can be very different than what is available in store. I'm certain the intention wasn't to rip you or anyone else off, they're working with the guidelines set by their company to keep them safe. These are unprecedented times and I do apologize for the inconvenience that it has caused you. Overheats After Only 30 Minutes

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used adapters that go directly into the side of my MacBook before and then I had purchased this one because it would plug-in to just one of the USB – C ports. it overheats after only having the computer on for about 30 minutes to where it’s hot to the touch. I have even unfortunately plugged it in to my original side adapter just to have the ethernet connected and it was still getting super hot. I would not recommend if you need to use this adapter for more than an hour a day for your MacBook.

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.We do expect that the device will get warm to moderately hot, but this is well within normal ranges. Our device has been stress tessed and we have found that the average max opeational temperature for this product is ~106 °F / 41 °C, this is also while the adapter is under a full load or is being used continuously for >~ 1hr.Please remember that ambient temperatures can also affect the unit as well as your computer. Manufacturer's recommend that computers be used where the temperature is between 50° and 95° F (10° and 35° C)." If you are finding that your device is exceeding the average temperature of 135 °F/57 °C, for periods > 30 minutes, it may be defective and we'd be more than happy to help with an exchange.
