Laptop is the source and this hub takes a signal through a thunderbolt port and outputs to a 27” monitor while still being able to do work as a USB connection hub. I’ve had to unplug and plug back in to get monitor to accept/ sync signal from laptop after the laptop has been in sleep mode for a while. I believe this is due to my laptop and or windows drivers rather than a fault of this device. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hub to connect a newer laptop to a desktop work station to further productivity.

You have to read the manual before purchase because the HDMI port will ONLY work with 4K monitors. I couldn't get it to work on the monitors I purchased it for. Definite bummer.
