Other j5 adaptors have worked equally as well for HDMI on an old computer an another for my android phone

The Imac is running 1.9+ Gig down and 2.15+ gig up on a 2.2 gig Fibre. Keep in mind that sometimes you have to plug and unplug it a couple times to get the system to recognize it. This is an inexpensive way to push 2 Gig fibre out to your Gig speed computers.

It worked okay the first couple of months of use, albeit would not allow upload speeds higher than 500 Mbps. Recently it became a bottleneck and would not allow download speeds higher than 125 Mbps. I was also noticing lagging and dropped internet connections, all because of this device. Unfortunately, Best Buy will not take back because it is past the return period. Waiting for j5 to get back to me.

Posted .If you are experiencing slow speeds, connection drops, or instability, please try the following.
1. Check the USB-C Port.
Ensure the adapter is connected directly to a full-function USB-C port on the computer.
Avoid using USB hubs, docks, or adapters during testing, as they can limit bandwidth.
2. Use a Certified Ethernet Cable.
Use a Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable (required for speeds above 1 Gbps).
Try a different Ethernet cable to rule out cable issues.
3. Test Network Equipment.
Confirm your router, modem, and switch ports support 2.5 GbE.
If connected to a 1 GbE port, speeds will be capped around 940 Mbps.
4. Update Drivers & OS.
Make sure your operating system is fully up to date.
For Windows.
Check Device Manager > Network Adapters.
Update the Ethernet driver if available.
For macOS.
Ensure you are running the latest macOS version supported by your system.
5. Disable Power Saving Features (Windows).
Go to Device Manager > Network Adapter > Power Management.
Uncheck: “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.
This can prevent random disconnects or throttling.
6. Try a Different USB-C Port or Computer
Test the adapter on another USB-C port or a different computer to determine whether the issue is device-specific.
7. Check Network Settings.
Verify the adapter is negotiating at the correct speed.
Windows: Network Status > Adapter Properties.
macOS: System Settings > Network > Ethernet.
If it shows 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps, the connection may be limited by hardware or cabling.
