I had been interested in a fitness band for some time and finally decided on the UP3 by Jawbone. I fell in love with the gold bracelet look then found that the tracking of my sleep and activity gave me purpose to get healthy. I love the smart coach. I also bought one for my friend's birthday and we are both enjoying wearing these all day and night. My sleep has improved and I am getting more active. I am also recording my water intake but can't be bothered with the food recording as it is really focused on American food menus and is a nuisance for me frequently traveling overseas. The band does not show any stats so you have to refer to a smartphone or tablet to see what you have done. This does not bother me as I do not run so do not need to refer to readings during any activity.

It's a very good wearable with excellent functions, however the design could be improved, it is not as fragile as its predecessors but continues reflecting a kind of fragility sensation, the clip definitely should be better.

I bought the Sand Twist Gold because it was dressier than most to go with my work clothes but after one month the band part is already looking dingy and worn and it does not clean up well. Also I have an HTC phone and I have to pair the two every morning, I bought this band because it said it worked with my phone but it is not a great match. It is very expensive for the quality of product and delivery of what it said it would do with my phone. I would recommend if black is purchased and purchaser owns an I Phone.

Just want to touch on the previous Trackers owned so you know where I'm coming from: Fitbit Zip - Good starter piece, limited features, perfect for simply counting steps with great battery life. Clip on design...good as long as you can remember to take it off before you throw your clothes in the wash. Water resistant but won't hold up very long if you don't learn the first time. Fitbit One - Got this as it had the sleep tracker in addition to the fitness tracker. Good tracker and decent app. Drawback of changing it from the clip holder to the wrist holder when sleeping every night. Again, this was a clip on design so it's easy to put in the wash (which I learned from the first two times) but ended up losing this due to the size. Jawbone UP24 - Tried the UP24 after I lost the Fitbit One to see how I can handle something on my wrist 24/7 since I haven't worn a watch in many years. It wasn't bad. Good entry tracker, easy to use and GREAT app including sleep. Based on the above, the UP24 would suffice for general, everyday tracking but was ready to upgrade with heart monitoring and advance sleep. I now have upgraded to both an Apple Watch and UP3. Got the Apple Watch about a month before the UP3 and was hoping it would do everything I wanted. The tracking side of the Watch is great...just no rich App to pair it to, but it does sync to the Up App just fine so I was about to settle. However, after a few times of working out...the Watch was ok when doing cardio but isn't the ideal when working out with weights or machines, which I generally do first, due to the size and the potential of banging it up. So I decided to get the UP3 as well. Ok...I'm sure most of you are looking for a fitness tracker review...but I'm pretty sure that you've read lots of reviews already and finding out that most are pretty close and accurate, no matter what brand or model you have so I won't go into that. Where this unit really shines is the App. For those of you that have used various brands, you'll probably agree with me that the UP App is already the best out there. The UP3 App is even better with heart monitor and Advance Sleep with REM! I don't know of any other portable device that monitors heart and has Advanced Sleep except for the heart monitor bands that go around your chest. But with the UP3, you can see your heart rate on the same screen as your sleep and only wearing the wrist band...no other changes! You have full control over your workouts...schedule, duration, how hard you workout, etc. But sleep, once you fall asleep, you have no control. The UP3 App lets you see what happened. You can see why you're tired or feeling refreshed. I'm sure this will really come into play for those that have sleep apnea or other sleep challenges. It also makes you more cognizant of your overall health because if you're not sleeping right or enough, you're not letting your body repair itself. So now, I wear the Watch during the day, especially since I'm in meetings a lot and switch to the UP3 in the evenings or when I'm hitting the gym. I would rather see a digital screen than just lights and using buttons instead of tapping. For the sleep portion, I now strictly use the App rather than sitting there and tapping the piece as it's quirky at times and have to do it numerous times. The clasp...ok, I will admit, the clasp is my least desired part. I see why they did that...basically so that they only have to make a "one band fits all" and with the heart monitor sensors at the bottom, they couldn't make it like a watch strap. But there has to be a different way. Overall, I'm happy with the piece and have no regrets. If you're considering the UP2, I'd pay a little more and get the UP3 so you can get the heart tracking and advanced sleep. Not sure if UP4 is really worth it...if you're going to add a payment feature, make the piece with a digital face and at the minimum, a clock/timer/simple alarm. Sorry for being long winded but hope it helps you make a better, educated decision. Best to you and your health!

    So Far, So Good.

First, let me say that I purchased the Jawbone Up3 on 1/26/15, so some of this review is from first impression. I will update the review with more technical information after I have some more time under my belt. Latch/Clasp: I was reluctant to purchase the band because of reviews about the clasp and the band falling off; but, I purchased it anyways because I am primarily focused on the sleep data and RHR than I am about active wear. However, I can confirm that the clasp issue appears to be fixed. In my opinion, this clasp technique eliminates wear on the band because you don't have to thread it through a hole that will eventually deteriorate. I rate this feature as 4/5 because it can be a challenge to latch if you are wearing it on your dominant arm. Heart Rate Monitor: The Heart Rate is monitored at a slightly more regular interval than when asleep (pre-update), but I still don't agree that it is "constant." I have attached a photo that illustrates the sync graph if you are interested in what it looks like. As for the accuracy, my daytime heart rate is normally measured at approx 60 BPM at the doctor. The app states that my sitting BPM is at 56 BPM. The difference is likely due to comfort as I am more relaxed in my office than the doctors. I rate this 5/5. Sleep Data: Remember that this is being written after 1 evening of use. I found the first night's results to be similar to my EEG data. My REM and Deep Sleep recorded about 20% of my time asleep on the EEG. The band recorded 23%. I have read reviews that this may erode over time, so I will be updating the review after about a month. The one "flaw" with the data, is that it records times you awake in the night. Based on the sleeping picture included, I can tell you that it isn't 100% accurate. I awaken several times in the evening and early morning (~6am, wife getting ready for work), albeit only for about 30 seconds. I immediately fall back asleep. I believe the data for the light/deep/REM are accurate; but, because the heart rate monitor is not constant, the band likely does not register short disruptions of sleep. All things considered, I'd still rate it 5/5 for my perceived opinion of its accuracy. Comfort: I am small framed (5.5" wrist). In my 1.5 days of wearing this, I find that if I want to keep the band tight (so all the sensors are touching), I cannot wear the band below the end of the Ulna bone. In doing so, I have some discomfort in the range of motion of my wrist. I do wear the band slightly up the forearm for accuracy and comfort. People with larger wrists may not have an issue but, for me, it's a problem. Also, the sensors will leave an indent on your skin, so I recommend adjusting its location on your arm and rotating between left/right arm every couple of days. 3/5 Charging: you will need to charge this out of the box. The charging connector is magnetic and will only connect properly if facing the correct direction. If it is facing the wrong way, the magnets will repel. You can easily tell if it is not facing correctly. My major complaint is in the charging cable. It is USB (no wall mechanism), short and semi-inflexible. As a laptop/macbook household, I had to elevate the computer to connect and charge the Up3. It really was a poor design. 0/5 App/Alarm: TBD. I have concerns about whether the data will track or if the alarm will sound if my phone is turned off. All information is tracked through the app. I will test this concern and update accordingly. Overall: 4/5 on first impression. Depending on results, this may increase/decrease. On a side note, I upgraded my wife to the FitBit Charge HR yesterday. I will compare impressions after we have had them for a couple of weeks.

    Detailed Review

Okay so like the rest of the people who complained about Jawbone, I too was pretty upset when it took them from last year's announcement for a release around Black Friday to this year's June when they actually released it. Meanwhile, they announced an UP4 and released an UP2 everywhere before the UP3 and until now we still only have the black and no silver in stock anywhere so go figure. And yes the customer service is terrible so serious project management issues there for sure which is why I waited until best buy carried it so I can just take it back if I got a bad one and replace it on the spot. Given their 45 day return period for elite plus members it just made sense, let best buy deal with jawbone rather than me. However, having used my UP3 for a few weeks now I have to say that I'm happy I waited. It's amazing! I have myfitnesspal feeding it my meals and nutrition, a smart Wi-Fi Withings scale feeding it my weight, bmi, fat%, muscle%, etc. throughout the week and the UP3 tracks my detailed sleep(rem, light and deep) as well as my resting heart rate when sleeping and steps etc. The UP app plays nice with everyone and streamlines all of my info as well as gives me good feedback and smart observations like bed times vs. activity level. Food timing vs. energy levels, etc. that allow me to make changes. Yesterday it challenged me to drinking 8 cups of water a day and it records that data well. It has the social aspect where you can share stuff all the time and I can see my friends and can authorize for them to see your data, sleep etc. and vice versa to keep each other motivated. Best of all given that I already have a nice watch which I don't want to give up, the UP3 is super slim, like the width of those colorful wide rubber bands that were popular years ago. This means that I can wear it under shirts, etc. and not give up my watch or look like a weirdo wearing two watches as in most other bulky trackers with huge screens. Keep it tight, just like those rubber bands so it shouldn't be wobbling like a bracelet and it'll measure everything flawlessly. As far as the issues people complain about, yes the clasp edge although smoothed out and rounded out are kind of a bit sharp so you may want to be careful with that hand when getting extra close to your loved ones or playing contact sports so as not to catch it on anyone or anything. You can always bend the clasp with some solid plyers a bit in and they'll be fine but not a big deal. The tapping issue, I know the manual says 2 taps so people only tap it 2 times so lightly and when it doesn't work they get angry. Just tap it 3 times quickly and it works every time. Tap it like you mean it, not a gentle hesitant "hit me" tap on a blackjack table of someone who's not sure of what to do. Overall its a great tool but like any other tool, it all depends on who's using it and what do they really want to accomplish. Smart suggestions are only great if you wish to implement change in your life but if you don't like change and will not do the work then save your money because this isn't a magic band.

one step backward for the up 3 is the size change. The older model up25 came in different sizes with the larger fitting. I decided to upgrade for the newer features and the better water resistance. I like to swim. however the new clasp is hard to deal with at first. as well I have to set the size of the deice to be at the extreme end of the limit of the band. I like the new day format for sleep and the better food library on UPC. the nodes on the inside of the band at times. When I am hot and doing out of water activity they rub a little. and can be slightly irritating. Over all the device is better, I have considered the Fitbit a good deal. The social aspect of it is better, getting together with friends on Facebook to help motivate would be nice. the Jawbone has a team option but it is not Facebook oriented. It will use your Facebook friends list to match to people who also have an up. But I would rather have something more social available than that. FItbit dose the same thing it just seems more used so it's team feature is easier to build a team with. I noticed with the Up2 you had to calibrate With the up3 there is no calibration so I have nothing to identify who far I have traveled. but it will pair better with the Phone data so if you run an app like map my ride then you get distance. Grant you this is all from my point of view and perceptions. I am on the fence for recommendation because the Up3 has options the Fitbit doesn't and vice vera.

Had the Jawbone UP and it played out on me several months ago and really debated on this newer version. Was a little disappointed at first just bc this one is a little more difficult to put on. An the sleep mode was never accurate and then actually didn't even calculate the time correctly. But since the update that is 100 percent better and I do like the heart rate monitor part of this band. All in all I'm happier now the sleep timer is better. Happy buying and hope this helps someone.

The band is wonderful now that I've had it for a month. The first one I traded back in because the sensors were off. In the middle of my workout it said my heart rate was 59, lol. More like 159! Since having this band, it's been great to watch my heart rate and sleep patterns. I'm rather surprised how large a difference water and alcohol can make! The band is very straightforward. Only downside is it doesn't come with any instructions. I'm still not completely sure how to control it with just tapping the band itself. The app on my phone was very easy to install and fairly straightforward as well. It has a great way of showing you everything you could possibly want to know, it's user friendly, and can be synced with virtually every other fitness app you might already have. My only complaint about the whole Jawbone experience is due to the app. It has glitches and occasionally doesn't do the math on my hours slept correctly. It also has issues tracking food I input manually. It will count the calories, but nothing else, so it sees it as poor quality food, when in reality it's not. So the instructions aren't very clear on how to use the band itself, and the app has some glitches, but overall it's great. It tracks everything very well (but not steps if you're carrying something). it feels comfortable (I often forget I'm wearing it), and the battery life is about 6 or 7 days. I have sensitive skin when it comes to metals, and this hasn't irritated me at all. Also, the app learns about you and your interests/habits and will encourage you and coach you. It will suggest goals and challenges for steps, bedtimes, and water. There might be more, but that's what I've encountered in my journey thus far. :) Lastly, the whole reason I bought this band, is the sleep tracking. It will automatically record your sleep and map out what time you were in REM sleep, light sleep, and deep sleep. It also keeps track of how many times you wake up as well as measuring your resting heart rate and graphing it for you. If you tell it when you go to bed by simply tapping a button in the app, it can keep track of how long it takes you to fall asleep. It will also wake you up at the best time in your sleep cycle if you set an alarm and tell it how much earlier than that it's allowed to wake you up (to be in the optimal sleep stage). Overall, love it. :D

Own 2 Jawbone 24s and 5 weeks into Up3. My low tech fix for its constantly falling off: www.clares.com tiny black bands (for kids hair) made by CBI distributing Hoffman estates, IL. Band black, so is my Up3. Slip 2-4 bands (flimsy fix) on fixed clasp end. thread hooking end thru bands and slide into place. I like the info and it has catapulted my options for achieving health. Technology winsome. Details of clasp indicative of needs for better human factors product design and 101 details of using in life. Pairing awkwardness and recording sleep still flawed. I WANT THIS TO WORK. My recommendation is with reservations.

My wife recently got one of these. I was so impressed with what it did, that I got myself one within a few days after seeing hers in action. It helps track your sleeping heart rate, your caloric intake every day, and it guides you through what to eat and what not to eat. It really makes you think about what you eat every day. It will show how many steps you have taken and also provides reminder notifications and updates. Exercising has become a game, trying to see how many steps I can take each day. It takes some getting used to, because I normally don't wear a watch, but I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I would definitely recommend this device. I can't wait until they come out with the new features for the software that goes with this device.

The wife and I bought the same band (different colors) so we could keep track of each other and work towards our fitness goals. She uses the app much more than I do for all the articles and suggestions. I like the heart rate monitor, sleep tracker, and step tracker...with the ability to continually set new goals and up my steps for the day. I have had issues charging the band. It's in contact with the charger, but none of the lights come on to show it's connected. It's been very frustrating. Sometimes I have to just walk away and come back to it later.

Fantastic device! The UP3 is a huge step forward from the UP24 model and while I would like the Heart Rate tracker to track my heart rate throughout the day, I certainly do appreciate the resting heart rate tracker. I’ve had little difficulty with the back falling off due to the clasp sliding down the band. Very simple to put on and once worn for a short time, it’s barely noticeable. Overall, I would recommend this device to the average person to the very active athlete like myself.

This is a simple and nice fitness tracker. I am giving 3 stars because 1) It shows the steps and HR only in the app, 2) There is no web analysis or history data. All they provide is a CSV file 3) It does not track biking well. PROS: Simple, elegant, lite, do not fell like wearing a band. Sleep is very accurate, I think HR too CONS: No online analytics, clasp losses down with time. It is a good buy for if it is coming cheap.

Up 3 is slim and comfortable to wear, but somewhat difficult to put on. It does a good job of tracking walking steps, but unless your riding on a bumpy surface it doesn't record biking. It records resting heart rate first thing in the morning, but is very difficult to put from active mode to sleep mode and back again. I leave my Up in active mode and enter sleep manually. The smart coach does tend to nag about your bad habits
