I returned a Sony receiver yesterday because it did not have a ‘phono’ connection but I could play Dad’s records NO problem on his NEW BestBuy purchased Audio-Technica AT-LP120XBT-USB through RCA connections. I returned the Sony because it lacked all the connections we needed for five input devices. The Sony was $399 this JBL is $799 and the records sound like GARBAGE through it. Complete Disapointment!

Sound is very clear and neutral.
When I would start it up my right speaker would make a pop sound, JBL TECH support was useless and did not helpful at all.
I returned it and got a Denon receiver.
No pop .
JBL get your support working.

The sound setup process is a joke. To truly get the best sound out of this receiver you need a professional to do all the measurements properly. With my iphone mic I was able to get a respectable sound profile out of it. I like the look and digital amp power of the receiver, but the menu ui, sound setup, and bugs were a big nope from me. The $799 price was too high in my opinion and thats why I returned it.

I have no clue how there are so many positive reviews, it quite honestly seems fishy. My immediate reaction to this AVR was how poor it sounde. No charecter, no depth, sounds like a Vizio soundbar. Then you get into the slightly more minute things, like the inability to game (atleast with a Series X) as the screen cuts out every 30 seconds as it toggles on and off game mode repeatedly. Then you realize there is no input button the on remote, that the UI is awful, and only a few hours into ownership you realize that you have very likely purchased the worst 7.2 chanel reciever currently on the market. I bought it because it looks like the next generation of AVRs, yet it performs like it is 20+ years behind.
