Experience!
I recently bought the JBL karaoke system, and it completely exceeded my expectations! The sound quality is crystal clear — deep bass, rich mids, and perfectly balanced highs. The microphones are crisp and responsive, with zero lag or distortion. It feels like being on a real stage!
Setup was super easy, and the Bluetooth connection is rock-solid. I also love the LED lighting effects that bring a party vibe to any room. Whether it’s a family gathering or a night with friends, this system turns every event into a full-blown concert.
JBL really nailed it — top-notch build quality, incredible sound, and total fun. If you love to sing or host parties, this karaoke system is a must-have!

This is the 2nd generation of the original.
Photo proved for size scale, lol the trashy monster can I know, I know but I got it at Best Buy when buying this. I needed caffeine to deal with the busy after Christmas rush there.
Rating scale below is 1=trash and 5=solid:
Pros:
- Bass is 5
- Treble is 5
- Mids 3 and 1/2 to 4 (3 and 1/2 with the volume notch at 4, and a 4 when turned up higher than that)
- Loudness 5
- Not too heavy, can confidently and comfortably carry it with my pinky standing still
- Perfect for a 4 sedan car garage size area
- Solid for gaming (PS5 Pro) using a USB-A to 3.5mm AUX cord
Cons:
- Rechargeable battery cannot be swapped out as it is built in
- Battery without the color light use and at 4 to 5 volume notches will last the estimated 6 hours. Anything louder will drain it faster and obviously if the lights are on too it’s only worse.
- No JBL phone app access
- No EQ access (unless music app being used offers its own EQ then use that)
- Knobs on unit are for microphone and guitar use only
- Do not use for professional sound events get something larger
- “Minor spill proof” not “drenched/submerged proof” if that makes sense. Think of early generation of smartphones before they were able to be submerged.
Overall ima compare it to the Bose Soundlink III as far as volume limit to sound quality.
The Bose Soundlink III is roughly the same price as this.
The only reason I see to buy one vs the other, in my opinion, are these:
Get the Bose Soundlink III if:
- Using in a small space
- Won’t be using volume louder than half way otherwise it becomes distorted
JBL On-The-Go Essential if:
- Using in a medium space
• Medium = size of a 4 car garage
• Large = maybe a common sized event room/ballroom kind of size it would be too small.
- Want best of both worlds with volume settings
- Can become distorted at higher volume but obviously drastically louder than the Bose based on speaker size alone. It’s obvious.
Another way to think of it is bedroom speaker (Bose) vs open floor plan kitchen to living room speaker (JBL)
Regardless it’s pretty solid/alright. Maybe not for the “original price” because of the EQ situation. However, for the sale price it’s soild/alright. I do not regret buying it as a portable speaker and gaming speaker. Amazon also has a moderately foam padded combination duffle-bag/backpack for it where the front zips open to expose the speakers and a zip top to expose the buttons while still being in the bag.

5-Star Review for JBL Speaker
I couldn’t be more impressed with this JBL speaker! The sound quality is phenomenal—crisp highs, deep bass, and a perfectly balanced midrange that makes every song sound incredible. The build quality is equally outstanding; it’s sturdy, portable, and has a sleek design that looks great in any setting.
The battery life exceeded my expectations, lasting for hours on a single charge, making it perfect for parties, outdoor adventures, or just relaxing at home. Plus, the Bluetooth connectivity is seamless and has a great range, so I can move around without worrying about losing the connection.
JBL has truly outdone themselves with this product. Whether you’re a casual listener or a true audiophile, this speaker will blow you away. Highly recommend!
