I prefer an “old school” stereo. I love the JBL brand so I bought another pair.

Okay for a small room. Sound quality is fine, but the highs and voices seem a bit muddled to me.

They're ok. They sounded muffled out on the box but a simple eq made them sound a whole lot better. There's almost zero bass so expect to pair them with a subwoofer.

Great front speakers for a small living room setup

I’m using these speakers as left and right front speakers without a center channel in a small living room at a listening distance of five feet. For this setup, they are more than loud enough. They’re paired with only a subwoofer for now. I haven’t decided if I’m going to put together a surround system.
As the speakers are not having to handle much on the low end because of the subwoofer, I’m relying on them mainly for mids and highs, and I’m more than satisfied with the output. To my ears, there’s excellent separation and clarity, even at low volume. It’s a giant step up from my TV’s built-in speakers, which were a muddy mess and required higher than desired volume to easily hear dialogue.
I haven’t been able to perform the calibration on my JBL receiver (MA310) because the Android app requires an aftermarket microphone, and given that I’m not working with a surround setup yet, it’s probably not worth going through the trouble. Even so, for TV, movies, and games, the default levels were almost good enough. For music, however, I definitely needed to play with the bass and treble sliders (as well as the crossover on the subwoofer.)
As with other speakers in the Stage 2 lineup, they have magnetically attached speaker covers, which satisfyingly snap into place but have no alignment pins or pegs to keep them securely in position. They will shift out of place when handling the speaker if you’re not careful.
In sum, I’m happy with these speakers, and for my setup they serve well as front main speakers when paired with a subwoofer.

I decided to get this set up for the old school feel. I love how it has that kind of take you back to the good old days, with a nice modern updates that blends perfectly! If you have an extra hundred bucks you probably better off getting the 250 B speakers instead, but if you don't you would definitely not be disappointed with these! I was pretty excited to set this up with my TV that has a nice surround sound system, but not as good as this one! One thing I didn't no is that it doesn't come with wire but luckily I had some at the house from my son live with me. They really fit perfectly in smaller areas on your shelf or bookcase that you may have set up around your television. They are way better than my sound bar that I had that had to sit in the middle in front of the TV and now the sound she spread out more coming from different parts around the TV. Everything's blends so well with these speakers, that you really get that semi home Theater experience if you have the right set up! I definitely recommend the speakers!

Small speakers that are quite loud! They have a magnetic cover which snaps on & the cabinet has a vintage look with espresso wood grain finish. Upon installation part of the packing foam inserts were suggested to be placed in the back of the speakers, I hung them on a wall and I’m thinking that maybe they’d be better on a shelf because I don’t feel like the cones move as much with the inserts inside. I don’t feel that they have quite the bass response I was expecting and they seem to distort at any volume that is above medium. I have them connected to a JBL MA310 head unit and I turned the volume to 65, any volume higher than that caused distortion. They sound great though as long as they’re kept below that volume. Crisp, clean sound with an old iPod, I haven’t tried playing a turntable through them yet. They’re nice small, space saving speakers and I do recommend them but if a strong bass sound is what your after I wouldn’t suggest these and most definitely don’t turn up the volume!

First impression I had set the stage for what was to come as I unboxed and set it up. This was part of a set of bookshelf 2.1 speaker set and a mid-range receiver (MA 310) all from JBL. Upon opening the shipping box, there was another box inside that housed the sub. Very nicely packed and well protected and mine was in perfect condition when received. The sub itself is heavier than I expected and I had to turn the box upside down to remove it from the box. It is well constructed, but do not mistake it for a fine piece of furniture, because it is not. For not much more money, JBL could turn this into a fine piece of furniture, but in my location, it does not matter as it is not a prominent piece of furniture.
The set up was simple and straightforward, but interestingly, there was no cable included with the sub. Luckily, I already had a spare and did not need to go buy one to set this up. Once connected, I was amazed at how tight the bass was, but without boominess. I hardly touched the adjustments and it was almost perfect at the factory settings. Your mileage may differ depending on the acoustics of your room. It handles movies and games with ease, but I have not jumped in to critical listening of audio. I expect it will excel there too. Bottom line is nice, tight bass, no boominess, and it looks good, but not like a piece of furniture. Definitely recommended!!!
