A weird game that stays with you

This game is weird and I didn't understand it at times, but it's been months since I beat it and I still think about it all the time. The music and visuals are amazing, but the story makes little sense and is very open to interpretation.

Ignore the 1 Star review. If that person had actually paid attention, they’d know if you didn’t order directly from iam8bit, you would be getting a cheaper version. Yes, the packaging is plain compared to version directly from iam8bit, but again, it serves its purpose. It’s a physical edition. Same exact cartridge, just not as nice packaging as the special edition that was directly from iam8bit.

Why do I like this game?

I don’t even know how to describe KRZ. This is not at all my style of game, but I somehow liked it the longer I played. For context, I got the most out of it when I played late at night with a glass or two of bourbon. It’s by no means for everyone. It’s probably not even for me on a regular day. I still don’t understand the story really, and I don’t understand why I look back on it fondly now having beat it. But I loved it. This isn’t a game you play from start to finish in a few sittings. You have to be in the mood. My recommendation: Pour yourself a glass of fine scotch, don’t expect to understand what is happening, and enjoy it in small waves. The Junebug performance at The Tavern in Act 3 is when I realized I loved this game, despite hating my love for it until that chapter.

Great unique switch game! Really good storyline, characters and music score. Reminds me of walk in the woods or oxenfree. Highly recommended if you enjoy fantastic indie games!

So bizarre yet a blast to play. Beginning is a little slow but then it breaks lose with an intriguing story line. Definitely pick this up if you can find it! I lucked out and my local Best Buy in Warwick, RI had two copies on the shelf! So much fun!

Stunningly beautiful and one of the most unique games I've ever played. The atmosphere truly washes over you as you become more invested in these characters. Light on gameplay but an unforgettable experience.

I'm glad to have a physical copy of this game - note that it doesn't come with the interior cover of pack-ins that the limited edition online did

Surreal and gorgeous point and click adventure/visual novel. If you have enjoyed anything like 2064 read only or Oxenfree - then this one is a must.

Kentucky Route Zero is an absolute masterpiece. The characters and themes will both keep you up at night and put you soundly to sleep. I hope this game gets studied in literature classes, as its metaphors and character work and unparalleled even by works in other mediums. This is one of the many reasons the video game must be appreciated as an art form, and I have no doubt this game will be something to tell your kids about years ahead, or years soon to come.

Misleading Description, Incredible Game

Just like the other review, I was wary ordering another iam8bit switch game from Best Buy as they seem to not put much effort into these releases compared to their store's version. However, when I read the description, it mentioned that this would include the stuff that came with the iam8bit release, so I bit. Obviously, I knew it was just text they took from iam8bit's site, but I wanted it to be true. Sadly, it is just a barebones release, but a fantastic game.

Kentucky Route Zero is the epitome of video games as an art form. The five-part story is less a game and more so an interactive story with clever writing and cryptic storytelling, providing a memorable experience that is equivalent to reading a fine piece of prose or viewing an arthouse film.

Starts off interesting. Limited in scope indie but begins with a deep story that takes a wrong turn along the way. You’ll be trying to wrap your head around the story more than it having a lasting impact like chapter one did for me. Gameplay is
more point and click style puzzle adventure with a pretty bleak yet deep theme. It’s on sale much cheaper digitally
