3rd KING KONG close to being "BEST" like in "BUY":

REGARDING: "KING KONG" (2005) version: I already owned this movie on the 3-DVD disc set, plus the separate 2-disc dvd box set of THE MAKING OF, as well as "king Kong" (1976) DVD (which I have to admit is my favorite due to that was my generation which I grew up with, AND was at Twin Towers and saw Kong's body in summer 1976, AND recently bought -and now own- the foreign BLURAY of that), and own the 1933 original on DVD, BUT!, did not own this bluray of the 2005 Peter Jackson version, only the DVD. For a BEST price ("cheap" price, which Best Buy always has, hence "BEST BUY"), for $8 dollars, decided to purchase this. GLAD I DID! The sound is FANTASTIC! Wish it was in 7.1 sound, but 5.1 does the job! You can hear the airplanes buzzing around behind you, the roars and the fighting of the animals in the jungle all around you! AND the picture is great! Colorful, sharp, which BLU-RAY is. "BEST" is buying blurays as blurays have the BEST sound and the BEST picture! I recommend buying this movie on bluray at BEST BUY! (*Some of the extras from the dvd have not been ported over onto the bluray, but it has the extended version along with the theatrical version, plus a commentary on the long version, and few other extras. BUT should not deter you from buying this bluray). Glad I bought the bluray....at BEST BUY! BUY IT! You'll be glad you did. (*of course the original 1933 is considered the best one overall, but cannot beat color and sound of the 2005 one!) This one is GOOD. So, do not go pounding your chest to decide whether to buy or not, go climb up a building to get to BEST BUY and BUY this! You'll feel like a KING! RRRRUN to BEST BUY!

    Very Good Movie

King Kong ultimate edition blu ray four stars Naomi Watts, Jack Black Adrien Brody and a Gentle giant (Peter Jackson) with the late, great Andrew Lesnie managing visuals embarks quite literally on a quest to find an island stranger than any other, in this the penultimate (as of 2019) Hollywood retelling of the myth of the blonde and the beast on Skull island. Jackson as his usual shot a longer movie than its distributors wanted to show on theaters. This blu ray runs longer by roughly a dozen or so of minutes. Included on this edition is the theatrical cut also. So if you enjoyed the film before, and is quite amusing, and have ever been curious of what did Jackson really wanted to tell, this is the best edition to get great price-value ratio.

Very enjoyable retelling of the King Kong story set in the same time period as the original. Exciting non-stop thrills once Kong shows up on Skull Island. I felt that Adrien Brody and Jack Black were both miscast but Naomi Watts is outstanding in the Fay Wray role. A bit of judicious editing would've helped, The film could easily lose 15 minutes. The opening is a bit slow and the ending runs long but the middle segment on Skull Island is darn near perfect except for the overwrought presentation of the natives. Superb action scenes and special effects. Also, I'm at a loss why one of the deleted scenes included as a bonus was cut . It's exciting and fits into the movie much better than many unecessary scenes that were left in. But I guess that's just my opinion and I'm not Peter Jackson. Overall, an exciting must see.

    Ambitiously grand, all-around excessive

It's not an amazing movie, but Peter Jackson did a pretty fantastic job capturing a spirit of grandeur with this movie. Surprisingly, the rather excessive digital effects actually hold up particularly well and can even put some newer movies to shame. While ultimately an entertaining ride, it is so unnecessarily long. The Blu-ray presentation, though, is great all the way around. The quality of the movie, presentation, and incredibly extensive bonus features (thankfully placed on a separate disc) is a steal at $6. I actually preferred this to the upscaled 4K version which makes it an even better value for me. Can't go wrong for such a low price.

Movie is okay- Features are INCREDIBLE

The features are what really make this set. Few master filmmakers are willing to pull the curtain as far back as Jackson, to give audiences and the curious a glimpse into the process and the work which goes on behind the scenes. This set finally collects all of the BTS features found on The Original DVDs, the Extended DVDs, the Pre-Production DVDs, and, of course, the HD Blu Ray movie itself, in both Theatrical and Extended editions, featuring all of the commentaries. Being a BTS junkie, it's allowed me to clear 4 redundant releases of this movie off my shelf, because this one has it all*. *Except 4K, which is coming soon. And 3D, which might still be coming, but probably not.

When it comes to screens and visuals, I have eyes that can pick out subtle differences in picture quality. I love this movie and have purchased it on three formats - DVD, Blu-Ray, and now on 4K UHD. The upgrade between DVD and Blu-Ray was GREAT, so when I saw the 4K UHD version was coming out I was pumped. As it turns out, the movie doesn't "age" very well and with the definition upped to 4K I began noticing places where the CG looked more obvious as opposed to looking more natural on Blu-Ray. Overall, everything was improved especially the sound quality and the addition of HDR but sometimes CG became a bit too noticeable.

This version of a King Kong remake was surprisingly good. I was skeptical going into this movie but came out actually enjoying it. With good special fx and sticking true to most of the original story, it certainly was a better version than the more modern 1978 movie. I didn't think that Jack Black was going to be a good fit, but he pulled off a good performance. This steelbook edition has a vintage cover that looks 1930ish but the down fall is there's no inside cover artwork. I like to open my steelbooks and be wowed by the inside as well as out.

I have all three of the major Kong movies and find this one is actually pretty darn good. Jack Black is always fun to watch and the story, although a little draggy in some places really does capture the essence of old New York in many ways. Many panned this movie as overly long, and perhaps too violent. I thought it seemed to be a bit more realistic for that in view of the other Kong films. The extras included are really interesting, including the extra scenes. Yes, the digital effects are somewhat different than the live action 1976 version, or the stop action original version, but they are well done and really look pretty decent to my eyes.

I enjoy this film more than most and the action set pieces and effects are generally very good. But Peter Jackson filled the movie with way too much nonsense to keep it from being a great time. The transfer is at times amazing especially close ups of Kong, but at least on my tv there were many scenes where the lighting was way too harsh and overdone. Overall good job and worth a buy under $20.

The movie albeit long was a film that honored the original source material and took and expanded and provided us context that made Skull Island terrifying. The film in 4K is a feast for the eyes. The HDR brought about some of the deepest blacks I've seen in some time. The sound was excellent and transfer was done with meticulous care. The added content which was very good made the overall experience albeit (4+ hours!) worthwhile. A great film to own for those who love Kong.

I recommend this for those who are interested in the massive lot of extras on the new bonus disc. The extras were all available over multiple DVD releases, but now you can have them all consolidated on one Blu-ray. It also comes with a digital copy of the theatrical cut. Other than these things, it's the same great disc one that has been available for years. So, double dip if you care about the extras, pass if you already own the Blu-ray and dont watch extras.

...That's probably due to my aversion to anything with that idiot Jack Black in it. No...Wait! I do know a film of his I enjoyed immensely. "Shallow Hal". But seriously, this is a fine film and a good transfer with excellent sound. The acting is quite good but I have to be honest in saying I do not much care for Jack Black. I recommend the film in spite of his being in it but remove one (1) star because of that, LOL!

I really enjoy this movie for some reason. Have had it on Bluray for years, but decided to pick up the 4K version on sale. Doesn't disappoint. Great picture and puts the motion processor on my Sony TV to work. I enjoy the period specific stuff in the very beginning of the movie too, not sure why. Worth getting this movie if its on sale. I wouldn't pay more than $15 for it though.

In my opinion, I enjoyed King: Skull Island more. The acting here may be better, but the cast in Kong: Skull Island killed it especially John C. Reily. This film is just insanely long; however, one does not realize this throughout the film because the pacing is done in an effective way. The 4K quality is good. The level of detail on Kong himself is fantastic. 13 years after its release date the film still looks brillaint.

I have this and two other King Kongs, the 1933 and the 1976 versions. The first is, of course, a classic and the second, well, not so much. I really enjoyed the story of this version and the special FX were awesome! Yes, it is a bit long, but not at all boring. I got this Blu-ray as an update to the DVD and the picture was very good!

I would love to give this film 5 stars, but coming from a critical standpoint I’ll point out that the movie is long, once you get to skull island(1 hour in) the pacing kicks up until a little bit towards the end of the second act. But if anything the final act is perfect, it’s a tragic, beautiful ending that leaves a pit in your stomach.

This is just a repackage of the original Blu-Ray, however, it boasts additional features. The film is solid, and a fun adventure visiting Skull Island. If you’re into features, and Blu-Ray extras, then this if for you. I purchased this for $10, but at full price I still think it’s a deal. At some points the CGI looks a bit unrefined and noticeable, but for 2005 I think I’m just nitpicking.

I would highly recommend the Peter Jackson version of King Kong over the 1933 classic hands down. There is more to the movie and Peter Jackson did a great job creating it. Yeah Kong is CGI, just like all the monsters on Skull Island, but it works better the stop and go clay monition. Trust when I say if you liked the 1933 classic! Then you will want to own Peter Jacksons version as well.
