The best Kingdom of Heaven film

Kingdom of Heaven is a 2005 epic historical fiction drama and one of Ridley Scott's best films. This version of the film runs 3 hours and 13 minutes and I believe to be the best of the three versions. This version of the story tells a more complete telling, resolving several questions to the characters in the story. I recommend any of the versions available but if you enjoy this story the extended version is the most complete.

Great Movie. Watch The Director’s Cut.

This includes the theatrical version and the Director’s Cut. The theatrical version of the movie is ok, but it can be confusing and is clearly missing some key points. The Director’s Cut fills in those missing plot points, and adds a few more scenes that help make this movie one of the best large scale action/adventure films of the 2000’s. It isn’t exactly historically accurate, but there is plenty of action and drama that keeps you engaged. The soundtrack is also quite good, and I am surprised it does not get enough credit or praise considering how well the music complements each scene in the film.

This film, in my opinion, is Ridley Scott's most overlooked film. This edition includes the director's cut which I strongly recommend over the original because it fleshes out and explains many things that were left in the air in the original. While not wholly accurate to history, this film sheds a much better light on the crusades (one particular point) then what is traditionally found in Western literature.
(SLIGHT SPOILERS)
My favorite quote from the film-
Balian of Ibelin : What is Jerusalem worth?
Saladin : Nothing.
[walks away]
Saladin : Everything!

This film is absolutely one of, if not the best historical epics of the 21st century. The scale is massive, the production design is lavish, the story is an intriguing and still very relevant chapter in world history. The film did not do well in its initial run due to a butchered theatrical cut and the somewhat volatile political/religious climate in 2005. The movie deals with deeper themes of faith and how that informs one's actions. The film shows how in both Islam and Christianity there are selfish, evil individuals as well as tolerant, loving individuals who strive to coexist with their fellow man instead of seeking to destroy them, an idea that many people in 2005 (and still to this day) weren't willing to accept.

An Epic

I enjoy many of director Ridley Scott's films. This is one I had not seen, so I picked up the Director's Cut at Best Buy for an incredible price on Blu-ray. This is an epic film starring Orlando Bloom, as a young blacksmith suffering from loss. He has a strong moral compass, but is called to travel to Jerusalem, where he believes many of his problems will be solved, but learns that it is a treacherous journey. This is an epic tale, and Orlando does a good job in the film, and his character is very unwavering in his beliefs. This earns him the respect of many peers, and he leads in many battles. It is a good film, but at nearly three hours long, it's pace is a bit slow at times. Worth a watch, but it might not be worth several revisits.

Good movie though why Olando Bloom in the lead role? Realistic, I think, except the siege engine sequence. I mean really, the Muslims got a large number of the siege engines across the desert (undetected of course) on very small wooden wheels, loaded them up with what, pots filled with Greek Fire then hurled them at Jerusalem 50 at time. Very fast reload rate too. Sorry for that outburst. Other than that, it is a pretty good movie.

Directors Cut is what you need to watch!

I bought this movie because it has the directors cut! I had watched this movie about 3 times before I purchased this one and I am so happy to actually see what the director wanted us to experience. I hate that Hollywood cuts movies short, because they think the public won’t watch a movie longer than 2 hours! Do your self a favor if you enjoy this movie and watch it over again, with the directors cut!!!! You won’t be disappointed!

I saw the theatrical release of this film when it first came out and I thought it was a pretty sloppy movie. The Director's Cut has over an hour of footage that was originally supposed to be in the movie but was cut for time. What a mistake that was cause the two cuts are night and day and the directors cut fills in plot holes and puts things into context. Not to mention Edward Norton is fantastic as King Baldwin and he has more screeb time in this cut. Definitely get your hands on a copy and add this one to your collection. Highly recommended!!!

This movie by Ridely Scott focus on the Crusaders at the time of the masked leper king and Saladin and it tumltuos , teneous time of peace before a time of war. The detail , the cinamatography, acting, scripting ....everything has a particular nod to detail and great care to immerse the viewer into another time and world......if you enjoy movies on an epic scale with respect to issues that exsist even today....pick it up...all star cast....just rounds out this brilliant film

I like this film very much, especially the historical fictions; the depiction of the struggle between Christianity & Islam that continues to this very day. Orlando Bloom's best performance, along with the supporting cast of characters; I love Eva Green, she is intriguingly beautiful. The focus of the Middle Ages is a grim reminder of how brutal it was to survive & thrive while living a hard life. I'm not a movie critic or a historian but I recognize a well-written story & a movie that was brilliantly directed. What does not watching this movie mean?...nothing...everything! Watch & maybe just maybe you'll understand.

There's so much that gets added to this version of the film that it really makes the original film better. There's a lot of character development that got cut from the theatrical release that really takes away from some of the story. There's a lot of background and detail that you get to see in this version that changes the feel of the film for the better.

Note that this review is for the Director's Cut of the movie, which runs 3 hours rather than 2. Both versions are available in this Anniversary Edition. This movie is epic, very engaging, with fantastic sets and costumes. Some decent acting as well. Very much worth the cost of the disc. As a fan of Ridley Scott films, I was prepared for the fact that his movies often over-explain some things, don't explain some things at all, and are downright confusing in other places. So if you can handle all that, you should be very entertained by this film.

This is an upgrade to the DVD , and seems like a much better disc in regards to the audio and picture quality. Love the war and historical movies. My opinion is there are not enough historical movies made, though most aren't historically accurate anyway , we know this is mostly for entertainment purposes as to appeal to the masses. But to the die hard history buffs it makes them look up the real history anyway.

Excellent movie, and a great release of it. Lots of quality bonus features, and while it isn't 4K, the picture quality is still very strong. It'd be great if we could get a modern release, but you won't regret picking this up even now.

Excellent movie, not to the caliber of Braveheart or Gladiator, but still a very engrossing film. It builds slowly, as you try to find the themes. Part of this is the acting, where Bloom is great but doesn't have the screen presence at the start to fully draw you in.
Cinematography is excellent, as is the color palette. A great test disk for a new TV or Blu ray player. Lots of action scenes with good effects. Great for a rainy Saturday afternoon with nothing to do.

I had no expectations for this movie I knew that this was my husband's favorite movie for many years so I got him the Blu-ray version that has extra scenes like the directors cut. It was actually extremely good. I will not lie it was a little bit bloody on some scenes but it was not too much I liked that they used as facts to incorporate into plot and they stick very well to history.
