This is my favorite anime, hands down.

This anime is the story of a young traveler named Kino who journeys with her talking motorcycle Hermes from place to place in order to observe other cultures and people. In one town, she may find people who never work because of machines but choose to for fulfillment, while in another she discovers that only those wishing to do battle to the death may be a citizen. Each country can be pretty ironic (such as avoiding war with one country by killing a different country) but Kino chooses to not get involved and only stay in each place for three days. For thirteen episodes, this packs a good bit into each episode, where some talk about various countries. The English dubbed voices are a good match, but this set also contains the Japanese audio with subtitles if you prefer that route. The music is just simply wonderful and melancholy yet uplifting at the same time. From the first episode to the last, this anime warrants many rewatchings, as it is not told in linear order, so even though I have literately seen this series over ten times, I still notice new things and come to new conclusions that I never thought about before.
