This garbage disposer has been great so far for my home. It's very efficient and makes quick work of anything I've put through it.

Love the 1 hp Kitchenaid disposal

I got this for my daughter, because I hate hearing people talk about what they "can" and "cannot" put through their disposal. I have had one of these for years and years, and I can put almost anything through it, including, once, an entire cooked turkey carcass! Of course, no peach pits, things like that, but otherwise, I can grind up just about anything! Kitchenaid's instructions may be more limiting, but this disposal is quiet, doesn't vibrate, doesn't get jammed, lasts a long time, and most importantly, is not a prima donna that only takes bread crumbs! Everyone should get one of these! Best Buy's service was good, too.

Fails to dispose of softer/flexible foods

Had this unit installed last week. Tried it out before the plumber left and it made very quiet, short work of large, hard carrots, celery, and chicken bones. Unfortunately, since then I've discovered that it also leaves behind stuff you really don't want sitting in there. It cannot process chicken skin, cartilage, or even citrus rinds. Soft foods with any flexibility will sit in there rotting and smelling until you manually remove them.
Had a service call today and the repairman said he said it's not broken, this is as good as it gets with these units. Everything is working the way it's designed to, and installed properly.
Until the day it died, our ancient 1/2 hp Insinkerator did a completely thorough job of processing all these foods with not a trace left behind, much better performance than this larger, much more expensive unit.
