Failed twice in less than two years!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would not buy this again and would not recommend this product to anyone. Purchased it and installed it. In less than a year the main magnatron died and had to be replaced. Fortunately it was under warranty so it was not cost to me. Then, just after the warranty expired, the door latch gave out so the microwave will not work. There are must less expensive options out there that do the same thing. I will never buy another electronic item from KitchenAid/Whirlpool. Plus, it was difficult to install as it did not fit like my previous microwave did.

Does not heat evenly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The microwave looks nice and matches the other KitchenAid products we have, however this microwave does not heat evenly. All the heat is put to the center and does not "spread" out. Yes, it was the "cheaper" one, however our original 11 year old microwave worked better! It just was not stainless steel. When using the soften butter feature, it does not soften, it completely melts it and the butter separates. When heating food, the outer edges are not heated up, while the center section is burned. I am on hold with Geek Squad to see about a repair, however I have been on hold for over 10 minutes without any answer. Hopefully our microwave is just a lemon and gets fixed. But for now, I would look at a different model.

Fine. Sensor overcooks and you pay for the styling

But there are a couple of negatives. First of all, regarding the looks....You're paying significantly more to get THIS microwave when, in fact, it's essentially identical to less-expensive Whirlpool microwaves. Whirlpool owns Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Gladiator GarageWorks, Inglis, Estate, Brastemp, Bauknecht, Ignis, Indesit, and Consul. And you can find a microwave with the Whirlpool brand that looks almost identical with the same features, but without the knurled handle that matches KitchenAid ovens. It's up to you where you spend your money. And second...The built-in sensor WAY overcooks any food. Yes, it eventually turns off, but not before anything I have put inside the microwave has turned to plasma. The "Reheat soup" warmed a bowl of soup from the refrigerator up to 195 degrees F. That seems excessive and potentially dangerous. The same thing happens with any of the "sensor" settings, even if you cycle the settings to indicate "less warm".

Looks like new just does not work!

Our previous Microwave we had for over 10 years so decided to spend a bit more and get a similar return on our investment. Unfortunately that was not even close to being the case. A month ago with no forewarning it completely stopped heating having not had much use. I called Kitchenaid and they schedule a service person - $119 - for me to be told the issue was the magnetron and which was not covered by any extended warranty and replacing it he suggested replacing some other items also and all told the cost of repair would be more than what we paid for the microwave new 26 months previously. What a expensive joke! I called back Kitchenaid and the only thing they could do was see if there was any discounts on new microwaves. Thanks but no thanks. All in all woeful experience with this piece of junk.

Door issues

While it was still under warranty, there was an issue with the door and the microwave not registering that the door was open or closed, causing it to be unusable. Since it was under warranty, a repair tech came and fixed it. Shortly thereafter it was no longer under warranty and the same issue started again. The issue has occured repeatedly throughout our time owning this microwave. It is clearly an issue with a connection somewhere because we can usually get it working with a few swift hard hits of the of the door. That said, it's really annoying because this has been the case for several years. Not spending a few hundred dollars on a new microwave yet, but these issues started before the warranty ran out and then continued after the warranty ended. Don't purchase if you want something to continue working as it should for more than 1 year.

Broken down in 2 years

Just bought it two years ago. It gave me an error message: open/close door ck time. I hardly used a microwave and very disappointed.

I will never buy Kitchenaid again
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.When we bought our house, all the appliances are Kitchenaid so we just kept replacing with the same brand, plus I thought paying a higher price for an appliance will provide better quality and longevity. Well, I was wrong. We paid over $600 at the time for this which was much more than other brands and exactly at the 3 year mark, the open/close door sensor broke so basically, it's garbage. I've had cheap $100 microwaves that lasted longer. I'm not shopping for another brand and will eventually switch everything out as well. Kitchenaid is basically a Whirlpool with a posher label but the quality is pretty much the same so I wouldn't recommend paying extra for nothing other than the 'Kitchenaid' plaque.

Microwave quit working after two years!

Unfortunately I didn't buy the warranty as I've never had a microwave quit before so figured I didn't need it. I did buy the warranty on the refrigerator, dishwasher and ovens. I had a repairman out for the refrigerator and he said the sensors had probably gone bad. To replace them would cost $450! Unbelievable! To think I paid $519.97 for this microwave to quit in two years blows my mind! If you do buy this microwave, BUY A WARRANTY!!!

Well, that didn't end well

It arrived and seemed to work great until November 20th when it ran but did not heat. Tried calling Best Buy but they couldn't help me without an extended warranty. Contacted Whirlpool who sent out a repairman that replaced a diode and everything was working again...until yesterday...10 days after the last repair. I am now very concerned that I have purchased a lemon. Can't contact Whirlpool until Monday. We will see...

Good Looking, Dependability questionable

Once the parts were replaced by KitchenAid as it was under warranty. Thought that was a fault part so I was one of the few unlucky ones who had a part problem. Having the same issue (atleast the error), after an year of part being replaced. Will not recommend it to others. Should have sticked with 15 year old GE. It was noisy, but was way more reliable.

Lasted only 4 years!

looks pretty but would not buy kitchenaid again!

I've had issues with every piece of this set. Microwave works intermittently. Kitchenaid said there is no fix for it, just open and close door til it works. And, now the handle is coming off.

Called Kitchenaid and was told to try unplugging it. That accomplished what I expected—nothing. Was told if I had a service call the service person would determine if I had to pay. What kind of warranty is that? This microwave replaced a more expensive Kitchenaid that stopped working in less than four years.

Poor quality

Kitchenaid does not stand by their product. For a $500 appliance they should last longer than 3 years. Stay away from Kitchen aid appliances
