I bought the kdtm404ESS2 version of this unit 4 years ago from a different store. The dishwasher cleans great (up until recently) but there are durability issues. This system has a complicated diverter motor that moves the bottom “dynamic” arms with gears - that motor has failed, likely due to the strain of a small motor moving a bottom arm that may bump into items hanging low from time to time. Or from a worn rubber grommet where the motor arm enters the tub (the grommet is not replaceable, by the way) that can leak water onto the motor. Warranty only covers 1 year for that. The special clean water system this model employs is a filter screen housed under the unit attached to the circulation pump. The screen can become damaged from objects that get through the course filter grid inside the unit. This is not a screen that you can inspect or easily replace. You might not even know the screen is damaged until you notice either a noisy dishwasher or food particles left on dishes. It is an overpriced replacement part and you have to disassemble the bottom of the unit to replace it. Although the racks are covered with free replacement parts for 5 years, there is no coverage if part of the plastic rack assembly cracks off and ruins your filter. These dishwashers should be designed to last normal wear and tear for 10 years, or at least provide discounts on parts that they know can easily fail, like this motor and filter. But replacement parts are extremely expensive, and for no reason, getting replacing parts from the official kitchenaid parts website are marked up 40% higher than the local appliance parts store. For example this pump filter is $98 at kitchenaid, but $67 at local store. Both of these failed parts have newer model numbers, perhaps more durable versions, at least I hope so. If they knew the old parts were not durable it is another reason they should sell the new ones at a discounted price. If you like kitchenaid like I do, get a unit with the removable, cleanable filter basket inside the tub (filer-based instead of the Clean Water Wash system) and with a regular bottom spray arm instead of a dynamic lower arm. But keep a close eye on the upper rack assembly. The plastic gets brittle over time, so if you see any cracks on the adjustable height bracket call in for your free warranty replacement before the whole rack becomes unusable. (Again, new part number, so maybe they are now using a more heat tolerant kind of plastic)

We moved into a new home a few months ago that had a relatively new Thermador dishwasher. It worked fine and was great if all I had to wash was lots of plates. It was horribly configured if I needed to wash bowls or any type of baking pans or pots. We purchased this KitchenAid and we are very happy with it. It has a third rack for extra silverware or spatulas, etc. It has a large capacity and it washes well. It's also very quiet. I would definitely recommend this dishwasher.

Love this new dishwasher especially the gliding racks no more wheels that come off the track. Very quiet and my glasses are spotless.

Our glasses and dishes are shiny and new looking again. This dishwasher is so quiet it's amazing. The dishes come out clean and DRY! I wish I bought it sooner.

I have used Kitchen Aid since they first came out and I decided last month to change. Bad idea!! Thank You for letting me exchange the one I bought for my Kitchen Aid. As always it is the best. I will never let a sales person talk me into what they think again. I love this new Kitchen Aid It is above all the other dishwashers Now and for ever I only wish The store could have gotten me a white handle on this model as I do not have a silver Kitchen. ( It is brass and white appliances) I am so happy that Best Buy was soooooo nice about this sale. Thanks to everyone involved with this sale. I

Our 20yrs old dishwasher died and it was time for new one. We looked at just about every store and dishwasher, then decided on this one. No filter to clean and it had the 3rd rack. Well the first one had something wrong and it as it wasn’t cleaning the dishes. Tried about 5 or 6 different times with 2 different loads. We really like the actual dishwasher, so we opted to just exchange it. The 2nd one is GREAT. Still getting use to not having to rinse the plates off really good before putting them in. We have left dirty dishes for almost a week and just on a normal setting they came clean. I will say, we did end up taking the 3rd rack out as one load I couldn’t get what I needed on both the 1st and 2nd racks even with adjusting the 2nd one. Still haven’t put it back in and don’t really miss it.

Love my kitchenaid dishwasher! I wasn't sure If I really needed the 3rd top rack, but I use it all the time. It's perfect for knives, lids, utensils. Now I can't imagine not wanting it. The black stainless front is beautiful and no water marks or fingerprints. It's super quiet. Last, but not least, dishes come out sparkling clean.

Well built unit, does very good job cleaning dishes. Is very quiet, need to look at small light on door to make sure it’s on. Down side is you can not lower top glass rack to accommodate tall items if dinner plates in lower rack. Even on sale I would consider it pricey.

I used to have to wash the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher -- not any more! This KitchenAid dishwasher is the most powerful dishwasher I have ever used. I just put all of the dishes in and start the cycle. No need to wash the dishes beforehand anymore -- let the machine do the work. And it has the most perfect assortment of prongs and racks to accommodate any possible dish. Only thing I would criticize is the silverware caddy which is shorter than most of my silverware. This is probably something I can adjust though. Just about everything is adjustable in this wonder machine. It has a ton of rotating jets and even has a ProWash mode that senses when there is no more dirt/food in the rinse water. Highly recommended!

I love this dishwasher my dishes come out clean every time and I can't hear it run.

This dishwasher works great! It's quiet, cleans well and does a good job of drying. The bottom rack is on slide rails no wheels so it stays on track, works extremely well! Also has unique jet system which cleans better.

This is my 4tth kitchenAid dishwasher in the last 20 years and it is by far the best. But then again any of the kitchen aid products would be better than the matag we bought just 3 years ago. This new kitchenAid is very quiet , cleans well and loads easily. It took a few washes to find the best settings and what would and would not clean on the 3rd rack. So far very happy. Only downside really was the price and the 3 hour clean time but that is with any washer these days.

I have only had top of the line dishwashers for years but this outshines all of them. There is no noise while it runs. Every item has been 100% clean when removed for the unit. It has a very good capacity.

Excellent dishwasher! This dishwasher has a third rack which is very useful. This dishwasher has a lot of power for cleaning and cleans baked on foods. The dishwasher is very quiet.

Very quite and gets the dishes absolutely spotless clean.

Spacious for big loads cleans with no spots guess what you only know it’s running because little dot light is running! You can’t hear it!!!!!

Replaced my ten year old dish washer. This new washer is so nice... very quiet and plenty of room for your dishes, Washes well has a lot of functions available.

The dishwasher has a lot of great features like a third rack for flatware. It also has an extremely quiet motor. I hear nothing when it Is on. Unfortunately, fingerprints show up very easily.I wish it were fingerprint resistant. I gave it four stars because it doesn’t completely dry the dishes every time. There’s usually one or two things in there that are still wet when the cycle is fully completed.

We had this installed a month ago and we are very pleased with it. It is so quiet and does an excellent job in cleaning dishes and pots and pans. The adjustable racks and shelves make it easy to load dishes and the top drawer is great for flat items. I highly recommend it.

Cleans great and is super quiet. The interior is a little smaller than our old dishwasher. Well made product
