Good sounding soundbar, limited subwoofer range

We needed to replace our old 5.1 surround system, so we are now using this 2.1 Klipsch Bar 40 and it doesn’t feel like a downgrade. We will eventually return to 5.1 surround after a few components have been replaced but we are extremely happy with the sound quality from this 2.1 Klipsch system.
I like the wood construction of the bar and subwoofer. The cloth exterior center section of the soundbar along with the horn tweeters on each end looks great. The subwoofer looks like a black box, nothing too fancy, so it blends well.
The soundbar will automatically wake up when it receives audio through a cable connection or if you connect to the soundbar with Bluetooth. I like that you must make the Bluetooth connection from your device instead of the soundbar automatically connecting to the phone/tablet/computer when powered up.
Every system setting can be controlled by the remote that is about the same size and shape as a FireTV remote. It helps that the system isn’t overly complicated, so you only need 12 buttons. You can easily use the remote in the dark which should be expected but that was a major shortcoming/headache on our last system.
We don’t need to constantly adjust the volume on the Klipsch. It sounds great when we are on the couch in front of the TV, but it doesn’t disturb the rest of the house. Night mode is nice, but I find I don’t even need to use it if I just bump the volume down a notch or two at night. This system has wonderful volume control, very granular. You can make small adjustments to find the sweet spot while our last system was always just a little too loud or a little too soft and impossible to set just right.
Dialog Enhance mode does make dialog louder. I tried this feature mostly while watching certain youtube channels. I don’t really care for Virtual Surround mode.
Shortcomings:
One major shortcoming is the subwoofer range. I get nowhere near the advertised 30-foot maximum range, not even one third that distance. I placed the subwoofer 9 feet away from the soundbar, behind my couch. This is the exact same placement I used for 6 years with my last wireless subwoofer. I’m disappointed I cannot use this out of the way location and had to make room on one side of the TV, in the way.
The soundbar has three LED brightness settings (Bright always on, Dim always on, Dim off after inactivity) but it always powers up in Bright always on mode. If you prefer one of the other two settings, you will need to change this every time you power on the speaker. Annoying.
The system remembers other settings between each use, but I really wish it didn’t remember the Night mode, Dialog Enhance and Virtual Surround modes.

Excellent Soundbar in Sound and Build Quality

Even though there’s plenty of soundbars to choose from this price range the Bar 40 so far has been the only to offer the most bang for the buck where it matters sound output.
Build Quality: Top Notch
Beautiful dark wooden material that screams luxury. So far it’s the best-looking soundbar I’ve owned. If I didn’t know the retail price already I would have guessed the Bar 40 would have cost close to $600. Besides being stylish the solid build material helps on driving the subwoofer to pump out some deep punchy bass that rattles my small apartment. Now, this is how a subwoofer should sound.
Sound Quality: Clear and Loud
I was very impressed the first time hearing the Bar 40. I did not expect it to sound this good. From watching The Mask, Chernobyl and playing some Star Wars Battlefront 2 let’s just say those Tv Speakers are going to take a hike. No matter what you throw at it the sound does not disappoint. It’s a crystal clear sound accompanied by a subwoofer that can deliver some serious bass when it’s needed especially on those explosive scenes. Streaming music via Bluetooth sounded just as good. It really is an all-around solid performer that will make you forget that your Tv has speakers. You get 3 sound modes to choose from (Surround, Night Mode and Dialog). Dialog mode increases dialogue volume for enhanced vocal clarity without increasing ambient sounds. Night mode adjusts the dynamic range for quieter listening environments but also shuts off the subwoofer so FYI. You can also have all enhancements turned off for a more natural sound. For most of the time, I had it on the surround mode which gives it a wide engulfing sound to mimic a 5.1 sound system. You can also use dialog or night mode along with surround mode useful at night for viewing news broadcast.
Features:
For audio input, your options are HDMI-ARC • Bluetooth® • 3.5mm Analog • Optical Digital.
My prefer connection method is optical cable since I have no available HDMI ports. Bluetooth connection was quick and easy with no signal drops. Pretty much just your standard soundbar features. You also get a remote control with the option to dim the LEDs or turned them off completely if you prefer.
Klipsch Bar 40 is a solid 2.1 soundbar you can get for this price range. It’s loud with an impressive down-firing subwoofer that makes it a joy to watch any kind of content. There’s nothing entry-level about the Bar 40.

You've Seen Better

This soundbar is a good addition to your HDTV, but it's not at all worth the $299.99 price tag. It doesn't really do anything amazing to garner that. The Bluetooth feature is cool, but not mind blowing and far from original. the remote wants to be a TV remote more than it wants to control your blue-tooth capable TV more than it wants to control the bar itself. If you've never had a soundbar for your HDTV, I can't in faith, recommend that this be your first or even third choice. You've seen better and cheaper options. As I always do, I am adding a link to my full online review. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1e41tyZNVTpxjVGquNI-wHN7p1xC-rcdKvKEKJu3XFEk/edit?usp=sharing

This Sound Bar ensures that you hear more!

This Sound Bar will ensure that you hear more than ever before.
I recently got a new 65 inch 4K television and was in need of something to enhance the sound. Although the picture on the television was great, the TV’s built-in speakers were just decent, but not great for all situations, like watching movies or music videos. The Klipsch Bar 40 was my attempt at enhancing my television’s sound without going through a big fuss or spending a lot of money. The Klipsch Bar 40 is the first time I’ve owned a sound bar as I have been using amplifier systems for years. Immediately I realized that my new Klipsch Bar 40 was an upgrade on my televisions sound. After connecting it correctly, I was able to hear a lot more detail than I had heard before the sound bar (I rewatched a few programs that I had watched before I connected the sounder). This sound bar will ensure that you hear more than ever before.
The Klipsch Bar 40 arrived to my home packaged very well for shipping and unpacking. They made very good use of the space and this was the first time I’ve seen the packing foam, that is normally used just to surround your product, used for storage of items as well. Both sides of the form was used for cables and other accessories. Klipsch ensured that all the necessary parts to get me up and running was included. It’s rare that a company supplies the HDMI cable, but Klipsch included the HDMI cable that I was able to utilize for ARC connecting. They including so much that I was surprised that all I needed to get was two AAA batteries and a bracket for hanging/connecting the sound bar to the bottom or top of the television, which is optional, as you can simply lay it down on the TV stand or table. They even included a convenient cardboard cutout to measure holes and lineup for installing on the wall which indicated where to drill the holes for hanging. The hooks and screws are also provided for hanging on the wall. I ordered a part so that I could have the sound bar hang directly beneath the television.
I found the manual’s drawing diagrams for installation were nicely drawn but I had a difficult time figuring them out. It would have been nice to include more written instructions. I ran into a snag and couldn’t figure out the paring, couldn’t figure out how to get help, couldn’t find any videos on the web or YouTube. I wasted a lot of time trying to understand all the various colors and the corresponding connection and if the wireless subwoofer was connected or not. I turns out that the wireless subwoofer connects automatically and with ease. This system is so easy to connect that I couldn’t believe it was just that easy. It’s actually a plug and use system. If you are able to use the HDMI-ARC with your television, I highly recommend it. It makes using your sound bar a whole lot easier. You’re able to take advantage of a lot of automatic features that allow for a seamless user experience and a lot of one remote commands. You are able to simply turn off your television and the sound bar turns off as well.
The Klipsch Bar 40 system looks nice, elegant and sleek. It is very stylish and modern looking. The gray and black color combination looks expensive and enhances the look of my living room. I actually have the subwoofer on display because it looks so stylish. The sound quality is good, but not great. It’s not the best sound I’ve heard in a sound system. I have heard better. But it is a decent upgrade to the sound from the television alone. The sound is clear and but there is no real punch, even with the subwoofer on. The system allows for a second subwoofer to be connected so I will be looking into adding a second subwoofer to increase the base. The remote allows you to control a lot of the sound bar’s functions. You’re able to turn it off and on, turn the LED lights off and on, control the volume for the system and the subwoofer. You can select bluetooth to connect your mobile device. I like this feature because there are times when I would like to listen to my music without having to turn on the television. You’re also able to turn on the subwoofer and then off when desired as well as mute the sound.
Overall, if you’re looking for a simple solution to upgrade your television’s sound without having to do a whole lot or spend a whole lot of money, then the Klipsch Bar 40 is the right system for you as it is easy to connect and affordable. You can rest assured that you will hear more sounds during your watching sessions than you have every heard before.

Everything necessary was in the box except batteries. Nothing major since I usually have batteries! The sound is amazing! Listening to music watching a movie or just simply gaming I can literally see the vibration in a cup of water. The night mode turns off the subwoofer so I can privately watch what I want without disturbing my kids. I just can't go back to basic sound after upgrading to this sound bar. It's my first choice for everything even just listening to a song with Bluetooth! Gaming I can hear the footsteps of enemies so all around every use I have is exceeded in expectations!

I only recently got into Klipsch products with my purchase of a Promedia 2.1 computer speaker set. I was blown away by the clarity and powerful bass for the price. This soundbar has exceeded expectations so far. Have I heard "better" soundbars that cost a lot more? Sure. But I can't honestly say I have heard a soundbar sound as crisp and clear as this new Bar 40 in the $300 range. I've struggled with TV audio in the past due to the goofy size/shape of my living room. Being so close to my dehumidifier, dishwasher, and AC vents, when everything is running I would always have to crank the volume up to hear what I'm watching. This new Klipsch bar fills the room with sound without having to be overly loud. Setup is a breeze, and the wireless sub is paired and ready to go out of the box. Just plug the bar and sub into a power outlet, connect to your tv, and you're ready to go. The remote is simple but functional. Volume and sub level up/down are easily adjusted. There's a surround mode button that works well, as well as a dialogue button to enhance voices in your show. Not as many adjustments as other bars I have used in the past, but it sounds so good I don't really miss having a ton of options, messing with equalizers, etc. The bass is powerful, tight, and clear without being boomy. It is surprisingly powerful for its size, and can thump when turned up, but it never feels like too much. Some brands just like to throw boomy bass into their systems to appear impressive, but these new Klipsch bars are more tuned for clarity and pleasant sound vs. just throwing extra bass at everything. I actually have my sub level turned down below the 50% mark for normal TV viewing, so it definitely has more power than I need. The bluetooth music streaming works well and is a nice touch. Just about everything has bluetooth now, but it's nice to have the option to use the soundbar as music sound system when guests are over or something, vs using computer speakers or a portable speaker.

Almost good for the price, but not really...

First gripe. This sound bar needs 2 power cords, 1 for the bar, and the other for the subwoofer, therefore, with my TV also needing a power cord I had to buy a power strip to power everything. Other set ups only need one power cord which is better in my opinion.
2nd gripe. The subwoofer is weak unless placed in the corner of the room... anywhere else and you can barely hear it.
3rd gripe: Distortion at low volumes, and bad distortion at medium volumes.
4th gripe: My TV does a better job of virtual surround than this bar does.
5th gripe: I can buy a really nice 2.1 setup for the same price that sounds much better.
So, hard to wire up power cables, weak subwoofer, distorted highs, virtual surround is broken, and the TV it's attached to sounds better.

The Klipsch reference series Bar 40 may be the least expensive model in it's range, but it delivers all the sound quality you would expect from high end, more expensive units. Build quality is premium with mesh surrounding front and top, fixed cone tweeters on either side, and a touch of wood grain on the sides. Rear inputs are more than your basic HDMI ARC, Optical; you also have usb and headphone jack. The top display shows all the necessary info while being miniscule and the embedded light bar on the right gives volume and status info at a glance. The familiar media style remote is easy to use and memorize (not that you would need to). Once the unit connects to TV, the TV remote handles sound, mute, and power functions. Size is a bit of an issue since it eclipses the bottom inch or 2 depending on the seating angle mainly because of my low profile stand. Though when viewing a movie, there's usually a black bar in widescreen format anyways. I like the dialog mode for news and documentaries. The surround mode can be excessive with normal tv or music listening, but really shines with a Blu-ray or streamed movie. The downward firing wireless subwoofer is small and unobtrusive, but delivers impressive bass for it's size and gives depth and presence to action movies. It lacks the power to really thump in a room larger than 200sf for the purpose of dance and/or hiphop music, but that's not really an issue.
Overall, I find it to be a very capable and premium upgrade to anyone's TV speakers. It's really just plug in and forget it; no need to turn it on or off separately or change volume. The only reason to use the supplied remote would be to change the subwoofer power or the 2 sound modes.

So I am always skeptical about soundbars because many of them just sound like crumby amplified tv speakers. When I fired this up I was amazed. The soundbar is also being used as my main sound system as it sounds like tower speakers. The wireless sub sounds deep and crisp and appears to be very well built. The system was easy to install and there is Bluetooth and customizable sound. I highly recommend this soundbar.

This sound bar really made a huge impact on me while testing it out. Simple to hook up and tune. The instructions are simple to follow and gives you many different options to determine when setup you need. It has hdmi for audio return capable TV. Optical and rca.
What it doesn't do it replace a full home theater system. This subwoofer is wireless connected to the sound bar so placement is not as hard and one less wire to run.
This is klipsch so it definitely sounds great. I have fully theater system of klipsch. And the sound quality is nice. If you want to not wake the neighbors then this might not be for you. It gets loud and clear.
It also uses Bluetooth to allow you to stream an ipod or Android device without turning the TV on. I didn't check the Bluetooth audio from TV because I felt it would hamper the performance in that mode and many TVs don't support it well. This is a 2.1 channel system and performance is great. You can even pair your TV remote to control the sound bar and adjust the input and sounds.
