"Knives Out" Cuts a Clever Agatha Christie-style S

The parlor whodunnit made classic mystery by Dame Agatha Christie last century is a tougher feat to pull off than you would think. Maybe that's why there are so many remakes of Christie stories in theaters and streaming on line. Original concoctions that can compare to Christie are as rare as albino tigers, so it is especially gratifying to run across one in the Hollywood jungle. "Knives Out" is just such a creature. Writer-director Rian Johnson, whose last film "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" caused such a disturbance in the Force, seems like he is having fun again putting a cast that includes Jamie Leigh Curtis, Toni Collette, Chris Evans, Christopher Plummer, Michael Shannon, and a drolly funny Daniel Craig through a maze of mystery tropes that both pay homage to the classics while bringing the genre into contemporary relevance. Newcomer Ana de Armas walks away with the movie as a domestic servant who knows where all the bodies are buried. The newly released blu ray makes for a terrific night of home viewing.

One of my all time fav movies. Literally the best murder mystery of ALL time. Such a complex and amazing plot with amazing twists and such an impressive cast who all absolutely nail their roles and are great together. I absolutely cannot wait for the sequel. I’m really gonna miss the characters from this film (other than Daniel Craig’s detective character who will be returning) but if the writer/directed puts the same effort into the story for this one then it’ll be amazing just like this movie. Even the set designs and locations and such are equally amazing and stunning as the plot and characters and actors and the actors performances. It’s even better in UHD to truly appreciate how beautifully made the from is.

I heard so great things about this movie before I seen it and wow was the word out correct. This is a fantastic edge of tour seat murder mystery that will keep you guessing and keep you wanting to know more. This is a classic almost like clue movie of someone dies ain’t a house and there is literally like 10 suspects many with motive or reason. The family in this movie demonstrates money and wealth and want some people are willing to get it and keep it. Very non predictable movie and well thought our plot. As a movie buff I definitely recommend this and especially the 4K if you like myself crave the best visual and audio experience.

First of all, this movie has a terrific cast. It's up with today's political environment, although it is not necessarily a political movie, they add just the right amount to make it appropriate for today's society. The writing is quite good and the character development is great. It has such a great variety of characters within the family that anyone could easily identify with having in their own family. It's very funny and keeps your interest piqued throughout. I highly recommend it! It's a very fun, murder mystery with multiple twists that you don't entirely see coming. You may think you know, but then they get you! Enjoy. :)

I had already purchased the standard Blu-Ray version of this film because I figured the steelbook would never come back into stock, but it did, and thus I passed our old copy on to a friend and purchased this. It's a really beautiful set for a movie I really loved. We haven't had a ton of time to dig into the special features on this one, but there's a lot to look forward to. As for the film itself: it combines really grounded characters with a mystery that remains fun through multiple viewings. Ana de Armas is fantastic, and it's fun to watch Daniel Craig chew the scenery as private detective Benoit Blanc. I wouldn't really call it the feel-good movie of 2019, but in some ways it really is the feel-good movie of 2019.

In terms of re-watchability, Knives Out may just be my favorite movie of all time... And I really, really appreciate that the steelbook version does NOT force you to watch trailers of several other movies before giving you access to the main menu. One other thing though not related to merits of the movie or the steelbook release, but matters to the consumer nonetheless: since this is a Lionsgate movie, the digital code cannot be redeemed on MoviesAnywhere like digital codes from many other big studios, meaning that among other things, you currently can't transfer the title to your Amazon library and stream from there. I'd almost mark down a star for Lionsgate doing this to us, but this is my favorite movie after all... Just be aware of this restriction before you buy.

Great writing and expert direction by Rian Johnson. Even after all the hype, which normally leads to disappointment when I finally view it myself, I absolutely loved this movie. I watched it twice the first two days I had it and can't wait to watch again. One of the best of 2019. Daniel Craig, Ana de Armos, Christopher Plummer, Chris Evans and all the rest give pitch performances in this divine ensemble. Daniel Craig stands out with a divine and surprising characterization and Ana de Armos holds the center of this whodunit and gives it heart. Shocked there was no Oscar love for this movie. HIGHLY recommend it.

Rian Johnson is one of those rare writer/director filmmakers who is looking to redefine movies. He turned the Star Wars universe on its head with The Last Jedi, delivering what is close to the best Star Wars film in the saga. Now, he sets his sights on updating the Agatha Christie whodunit thriller for the modern era. The film has a strong cast, and a storyline that's quite simple in nature, but that's the fun and nothing is never what it seems. I was expecting something overhyped and pointless, but this is incredible. Rian Johnson is playing at the top of his field and it's refreshing to find a filmmaker attempting new things. The films success should demonstrate that comic book movies aren't the most profitable out there. Strong film and a must see of 2019.

The audio and picture quality on the 4K disc is spectacular. Visuals especially are sharp and the HDR color really immerses you in the story. The Atmos audio track is nice. There aren’t a lot of directional sounds in the film, so it’s not a track you’re going to use to show off your sound system, but everything is crisp and clear. I had seen the movie once in the theater, and several times on Prime Video streaming in 4K, and this is the best presentation of the movie I’ve seen so far.

Recommended to us by our daughter who is a big movie fan. Bought the 4K UHD Blu-ray disc. Really enjoyed it a lot ! Sort of an “even better than Agatha Christie” movie. Loved each and every character. Some people were “put off” by Daniel Craig’s southern gentleman accent, but that was being overly-critical. Get over it ! He and the others did a great job. The movie scenes were generally D A R K. Naturally-lit scenes of an old dark walnut paneled mansion rooms with a lot of candlelight. So nothing wrong with your tv or the disc. Adds to the mood. Loved this movie and heartily recommend. I especially appreciated the 4K disc, but the 2K/1080p looks great too.

I'm not sure how this little flick did at the theaters, but, I hope it sells well now that it's out on dvd (blu ray of course). Both my wife and I were very pleasantly surprised with this movie and she rarely joins in with me to watch ANY movies. The ensemble cast of this movie was superb in their roles with Ms. de Armas being the star. In the movie she is a foreign born (South American) caregiver to the family patriarch (Christopher Plummer). I found it particularly hilarious when the members of the family confuse where she was born: Brasil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay are the ones I remember. Daniel Craig isn't bad either as "Benoit Blanc". Do yourself a favor- if you don't buy this, then, rent it.

I can often take or leave a steelbook, but this is one of, or The, nicest looking one I own. The transparent plastic "slipcover" was a nice surprise and it makes the package look even nicer and more premium. A really nice looking case for one of the best movies of 2019. The picture and audio quality is great. The amount of bonus material, feature length making of, other interviews and deleted scenes, multiple commentaries, are all really great too. I didn't expect it to have this much and I'm really happy with this item. If the steelbook becomes hard to find, the normal package UHD or blu-ray is still greatly recommended!

Awesome cover art (looks like an old book!), awesome interior art. Love that it came with a plastic slipcover, which seemed to minimize any damage to the Steelbook itself (though the slipcover ends up with some minor bending). I wish that this trend with using plastic slipcovers would continue since the Steelbook case is the reason we pay so much more for these than the standard releases... Unfortunately, I had a copy with a loose disc but was eventually able to exchange it for another.

This movie is excellent! I enjoyed seeing it in the movie theater, and was excited to get it at Best Buy for under $20. I got the DVD, Blu Ray, and it came with a Digital Copy. Best Buy usually has great deals on DVDs, especially the week when the movie comes out on DVD. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone! Daniel Craig does a excellent job with the Southern accent, and he is funny in this movie! Chris Evans plays the "bad" character, and he is wonderful! He usually plays the "nice" guy. It was fun to see Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, and Toni Colette too. Great cast!
