    Great hardware design...software needs work.

    Initially I purchased this lock on its core functionality and design. My home is outfitted with many smart devices and they all are centrally controlled using Apple's HomeKit. This lock is one of the few HomeKit compatible locks that has a great design/look. Installation: When installing the lock it was a very simple as all parts were labeled clearly (part #s). With the instructional video embedded in the app, it made it very easy to follow and install. Manual Use: Once installed and powered up, it was very easy to use its manual functions - lock/unlocking was very smooth. Any reviews that say the lock jams or doesn't slide easily tells me that the user didn't follow the install instructions carefully. It specifically says that you have to ensure the strike/lock hole is clear for the lock to go in and out. Using the key digital keypad was very easy too. The 2 digit random "pre-code" is a great way to ensure your finger prints are not captured. Key pad is responsive. My house faces North so I don't have a problem with the sun hitting the keypad directly; however, I have heard of people having issues with this (confirmed lifetime warranty covers this). Software/iOS App Setup: when setting up the lock in the iOS Kwikset app, I immediately saw that the app was old (App store says last updated over a year ago). Even the basic screen size to accommodate the larger iPhone size screens (7, 8, X, etc.) have yet to be updated. It looks like the app was last designed for an iPhone 5 screen. However, if it was just app esthetics I would be ok. There is a definite issue with connectivity - both away and at home. After further researching the issue, and speaking to Kwikset's customer support directly, it appears that the issue is with Apple's iOS 12. Kwikset went on to say that the issue is not only with them its with all smart locks compatible with HomeKit. Kwikset advised that Apple is working with all lock manufacturers (i.e. August, Schlage, etc.) to resolve the issue. They even took my number and email to keep in contact when they have future updates on a resolution. My 4 star review is based off of the support the main issues are getting. I was able to get great feedback from their team and am hopeful that Apple will work closely with the manufacturers to resolve the issue. Once the issue is corrected, the lock is solid. (Hopefully they will resolve the UI layout too when fixing the connectivity issue.)

    Hoping the 3rd lock works (but not optimistic)

    Well for $230 I would expect a lock that works, does not seem like a lot to ask for, but nope. I replaced my old deadbolt with a $230 Kwikset 919 Premis Touchsceen and within 2 months it stopped working, well actually it worked I just had to change out the batteries every 3-4 weeks to keep it working. So I called and the customer service was great, they asked a few questions, asked me to send some photos and they shipped me a new lock. New lock arrived I took out the old one put in the new one and everything seemed fine, for a week. Then the red light started flashing and the lock stopped working (but at least the batteries weren't dead). So get a screw driver, take off the cover, go through the reset process and everything is back in working order, for a week. Then I repeat the process and it works, for a week (see the pattern). So after the 3rd week of resetting I make another call to customer service. I sit on hold for 22 minutes (I timed it) and then go through the reset process again, and oh change the batteries because the once we sent may be dead already causing the problem (wow new batteries that might be dead already). Well good news the batteries are not dead but sounds like the motor is dying, no wait now it's dead. But don't worry we will send you a new one. So now here I sit waiting for lock #3! The good news is I have keys and I can lock my house. . . .so here I sit with a fancy $230 lock that works exactly like the $20 lock I replaced (I am wishing I did not throw that away, then I could be done with this one!!! So, hopefully the third lock I am being sent will fix the issue, I am not very hopeful! I am hoping someone has a BIG sale coming up on locks this month. On the plus side I will say the customer service has been very good, if only the locks worked as well! Very disappointed in my purchase!

    Your new favorite toy w/ apple encryption security

    Easy to install yourself and easy to hook up to your network yourself and fairly easy to set up with both Alexa and Siri to control your door Dead bolt! Between saying hey Siri unlock my front door and being able to set up individual users access, this door lock especially when used with Arlo pro cameras Is the perfect way to let people into your home that you trust without having to even be there. The other day I was unable to be home when I needed to and a friend of mine was able to pick up a remnant carpet of mine and put it in my house and then leave the house without me being there. I was able to watch him with the cameras and using the auto lock feature it locked behind him! Worried about your packages being stolen on your porch? You can also allow your delivery person to put your package inside your house with this product and again using Wi-Fi security cameras you can watch them do it and have the peace of mind of knowing that your home security is still priority one!

    Lock doesn't work

    I bought it from Bestbuy. Spent 2.5 hours installing and t-shooting why it doesn't work. I called Kwikset tech support only to be roped in to exchanging lock with them. Kwikset said shipping is 14 days. Told them that is not fast enough so they promised to send priority mail which is 10 days! Long story short, after 14 days and 4 calls (waited at least 20 min per call). Found it it was never shipped. They promised again to ship it out. So I tried to return it with Best Buy. They said they can't help me because It's over their 15 day return policy and that I should've called them first. So now i'm stuck with a $240 lock that has never worked.

    I bought a total of 4 of these things and hired a locksmith to install. 2 of them were missing a needed part. One was assembled upside down and couldn't be installed. One was installed, but wouldnt work. Called Customer "Service" to get help to set the code and there were no adequate instructions in the box. Waited on hold for 30 minutes. Then the rep just kept reading the same script, 3-4 times and was prepared to read the same thing a 5th time. There is apparently NO ONE to escalate to who actually knows anything about their products. Meanwhile, I got charged $200 by the locksmith to have NOTHING installed.

    I had some difficulty using the app that goes with it but customer service was excellent and it turned out it was an apple phone issue not the lock app, All working well now and it looks great, My only issue that prevents 5 stars is the fact that to change codes or replace battery there are 4 very tiny screws that have to be removed. WHY ?? it's on the inside should just have a slide on. I could not see the screws well enough had to get my son in law to come remove the screws!

    I’m using an iPhone 7+/AppleTV to connect to the lock. The delay is very small, ~4 seconds. When I pull up to the driveway I say, “Hey Siri! Open the pod bay doors!” And the door unlocks. Very fun. The 30 second autolock is excellent. By the time I’m closing the door it latches shut behind me. Being able to set custom key codes for other people that only work once in a 24 hour period is very conveinient, especially for inviting family over etc. I plan on buying two more for my other doors.

    Where do I begin? I was really looking forward to installing this lock for my front door. 1st one once installed kept jamming and the key pad just would not turn on tried for hours and nothing. returned it and ordered the same lock again (as best buy does not seem to have them in stock near my location). Same issue, installed it and the lock just keeps jamming. at least this time the key pad turned on but it just wont lock smoothly. I am just going to return it and go with a different lock. spending money on lock smiths for no reason.

    This lock comes with both square and round plates which is great. The app is great with installation with pics and easy to follow instructions. I use the lock with apple home and have been thrilled with the ability to lock and unlock the door while away from home. The finish and build are quaintly. The only small draw back is battery replacement it has 3 screws that hold the case on but one is on the bottom so it is an issue with space for a screw driver due to distance from the door handle.

    This is my first time using a smart lock. It was easy to install but the app itself is kind of outdated compared to all the other ones out there. I can’t connect this model to SmartThings and I can’t access it unless I am 30 ft away. There are ways to set it up but it was a lot of work. I’m hoping they upgrade their app and then it would be 5 stars for me.

    I did a ton of research. all roads pointed me to an August. That lasted a few weeks. I didn't find a ton of info on the Premis, not many reviews online. However, likely because it was very new at the time. I've had it on my door for about six months now and absolutely love it. Small profile, has a traditional latch on inside of the door, works with apple home and connects to apple tv. Don't waste your time on the others.

    So far we have been very unhappy with the product and it has caused lots of frustration with the family. The lock continues to jam, the touchpad is very laggy, the door does not Auto Unlock with home kit. Basically, all the features we wanted have been turned off. You would be better off just getting a traditional key pad. Save yourself some money.

    This is great for our condo. We expect different family members and friend to visit us here at the beach. We can easily enter a code for them and not worry about chasing down keys. With the various ways of programming you can enter codes for repairmen on a one time basis or only at certain times. I do wish the screen lit up quicker for code entry.

    It is so nice being able to tell Siri to unlock the front door on the way to the house from the car. The keypad is nice for visitors, but unused because Siri works so well unlocking the door. Installing was straight forward and I would recommend this again. We have an iPad dedicated as our HomeKit hub and we’ve had no issues with this lock. I’d buy it again.

    Quickest home automation device to install. It was only 15 minutes to install the lock and 5 minutes to get the device attached to my homekit app. Now it is as simple as giving Siri the command "Goodnight" and all lights turnoff and locks are engaged. Notifications is set to text when the status changes.

    I had to return 2 of these because they did not include a part needed for installation. I bought 2 more (the same model with diff remote software) and the locksmith found that one is assembled upside down. There are no useful instructions about programming the codes. STILL on hold with customer "service" after 25 minutes. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.

    Easy enough to set up. But software (app) from Kwikset is old and needing update. HomeKit integration seems to work, but it will cost you. AA batteries, that is. Hopefully future updates will polish this otherwise well made product.

    The lock mechanism was installed upside down. Had to take the entire lock apart rotate mechanism and reassemble. Not how a new item should work. Once installed I have not had any issues.
