LA Noire has been "remastered" for the current gen consoles. This title comes packed with all available DLC and provides a great amount of fun. The narrative is a simple story woven together by cases across different police departments while you navigate LA decades ago. For the most part navigating the city is one of the highlights of the game as well as voice acting.

This is one of the best (and few) Noir games out there. With an immersive story and historically accurate designs, it's a must for any fans of mystery.

Such terrific work went into recreating 1947 Los Angeles that the developer went out of business. The various mysteries your detective is given to solve are not as difficult or engaging as you would find in something like an Ace Attorney title, but the writing and acting is top notch. Shooting is a little mediocre but there's enough varied activities to make it an absolute recommenced.

This remake/update for the PS4 was well done. The moving of the mouth by the characters is unique. Well done, but sometimes looks...odd.

As a lover of mystery and old-school adventure games I knew I needed to try LA Noire, but couldn't get into it. The world is extremely realistic and the attention to period detail like vintage cars, music, clothes is really remarkable. But the gameplay and especially the characters fell short for me.
Coming to this in 2019 for the first time, I found the 2010-era motion capture and character models were not convincing enough to carry a story like this. When interrogations depend on interpreting people's facial expressions, those faces have to hold up and be believable, and these just aren't quite. I know it's a last-gen game, but the odd faces and animations caused me to have a lot of trouble solving cases.
The conversation system, as well, is frustrating and opaque despite some corrections from the original version. It's just not clear what your character is going to say based on the generic "good cop / bad cop" prompts you're given to choose from. Getting something wrong can fail the whole case, in which case you have to start over through UNSKIPPABLE versions of everything you've just sat through. That's not a product of LA Noire being an older game, it's just poor design. Other games of this genre from the period, like Heavy Rain or Telltale's The Walking Dead, had much more natural conversation systems that don't shut the player off from the character they're playing as. I recommend either of those games over this.

If you're a fan of noire genres being books like Raymond Chandler or films like "L.A. Confidential" than having the opportunity to play this in a video game will yield an externalizing combination of the noire genre and fiction. The characters are there, the fame fatale and the corrupt characters/environment interlaces the setting of the early 40's and 50's of Los Angeles.
