An Underrated Romero Gem Gets the Works

Featuring both edits of the film with newly remastered transfers, a plethora of retrospective interviews with a number of the actors involved and a slew of archival documentaries and behind the scenes features detailing the making of, George A. Romero's surprisingly relevant and topical fourth entry in his iconic "Dead" franchise is sure to make many Halloweens happy in this nicely put together package from Scream Factory, who further prove why they're the Criterion of genre releases. If there is any disappointment to be found, it's that Mr. Romero was unable to participate in this release before his untimely passing last year, but that shouldn't deter adding this title to your home video library.

    Awful, awful, awful

Before I start, I am fully well aware that I am talking about a zombie movie. However, this isn't just another campy filmmaker, this was a long-awaited film by George Romero. I love zombie movies, and prior to seeing this film, I held Romero in very high regards. This film is marred with weak characters, poor scripting, and an overall terrible story. I try not to truly hate something for the sake of hating it, but toss in thinking zombies (which wouldn't make them zombies at all), and this was one of those rare gems that hit every area of awful. The story was sacrificed in order to make a political statement about Capitalism. Well it worked, because as a consumer, I could never recommend that a person fuel the economy by spending money on this movie.

    Dumb-down of the Dead

basically this is a vehicle to promote some kind of political agenda. Romero is one of my favorite directors but this goes beyond comprehension and insults horror fans. The original "Dawn Of The Dead" commented on consumerism yet kept the focus on what's important: THE HORROR. this film feels like Romero had Keith Olbermann and Al Franken co-write the script (now that would be horrifying!). the plot could have been brilliant but was surpassed by "28 Days Later" & "28 Weeks Later." luckily George made "Diary..." and "Land..." will be remembered along side "Return Of The Living Dead" as something laughable & dismissable.

On blu ray it even looks better, some of his fans didn't enjoy this one but it is filled with social satire and good old fashioned gore. It is much better than 'day of the dead" in which it's very small budget kept most of the action inside of a bunker, but not as great as the truly classic by any horror fans standards: 'dawn of the dead" or the first and great 'night of the living dead" , still this movie has a fine pacing and good performances from the top notch cast. It's worth getting on blu ray as part of any superior horror dvd collection.

George Romero recently passed away and left behind a legacy as the pioneer of the modern zombie film. Land of the Dead was his last worthwhile zombie flick and an innovator within the genre and this scream factory release contains a new restoration and a laundry list of new special features that caters to fans. If you love zombie flicks, this is the definitive release of a quintessential film from the master of the genre, though Land of the Dead falls well short of the magnificence of both Night and Dawn of the Dead.

I know sequel after sequel can be very tiring, but Land of the Dead is definitely worth owning. This definitely deserves to be up there with Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead & Day of the Dead. Scream Factory certainly thought so too by releasing this film in HD. I highly recommend adding this to your collection. Includes theatrical and unrated versions of the movie, plus, lots of bonus footage. It's Scream Factory, so you know they didn't skimp.

When this movie hit theatres, it was a horror fan's dribbly dream come true - Romero was back! And while it offers up the same old Romero zombie fun, the material did come off a bit stale. This could be contributed to the fact Romero wrote the film back when the original trilogy was in full swing, but was basically burnt out by the time Land came around. Though, if you're an old school fan, there's still a lot to be offered.

The zombies are evolving. After decades of independently budgeted zombie flicks Romero goes Hollywood and it is hit and miss. I like the look of the film and most of the actors though story-wise I thought it lacking. As for this blu-ray release the picture quality is better than the previous release and with all the new bonus features, this is a must buy for all us Romero zombie fan.

THIS MOVIE IS PRETTY GOOD BECAUSE THE ZOMBIES ARE GREAT--THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THEY'RE SMART--I DON'T LIKE A SMART ZOMBIE--I WANT IT TO BE DUMB AND HUNGRY .THE STORY LINE IS OKAY- THE ACTION IS GREAT- JOHN LEGUIZAMO IS A GREAT ACTOR AND HE REALLY TOOK THIS MOVIE TO ANOTHER LEVEL-OVERALL IT WAS PRETTY GOOD--I HATE PHONY MOVIES--THE ONLY THING PHONY WAS THE SMART ZOMBIES AND HOW THEY STUCK TOGETHER LIKE A GANG.OTHER THAN THAT I LIKES IT.

It is great to see a Zombie movie for a new generation. It had been a while since a George A. Romero Dead movie came out. This movie focuses on a City full of survivors. The main characters go out to collect supplies for the city. The underlying theme is the curruption of Government. Check it out and a must have for Dead fans

I’ve always been a big supporter of this Romero film. It’s a great little not so subtle allegory, and a very solid and gory entry into his Dead series. Don’t listen to th hate, and give this one a try. Scream Factory did this one proud!

This movie was alright but it wasn't terrible. I expected this to be a much better movie than it actually was. It was pretty funny especially since it had John Leguizamo in it. If you're bored and got nothing else to do then why not pick it up and watch it.

Critique of American Capitalism as told through Zombies, starring John Leguizmo? Sign me up! Gorey but it has a point and takes a slightly different spin than most Zambie films (yes I meant to type Zambie-say it in a southern accent its funny)

One of George Romero’s masterpieces. Under rated for its time but definitely a guilty pleasure to add to the Living Dead anthology. Extras were amazing and overall a great collection to have.

This was the first of Romero's "dead" series that I saw. It wasn't a great way to start but rewatching this movie helps it. It's pretty brutal at times and also kind of fun.

Romero pleases with this action packed sequel, however, there are not quite enough scares in my opinion! Good gore FX and great script though!
