Works/ stays on better without phone case, but I’m not much of a fan of no-casing my phone so it’s really your preference. Have already had to reattach it like 10 times with my phone case on my phone. After checking the picture, having it to the side did help it stay on longer, so maybe it is just meant to be side ways. Also, don’t go buying this thinking it’s a pop socket because it is not, learned the hard way! It’s just a cute phone magnet for aesthetic purposes really.
