Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Cappers

There's Snatch, and then there's movies that are like Snatch. Chances are you Googled "movies that are like Snatch" this morning and then started reading reviews for Layer Cake, and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels this morning. Well, you're on the right track!
Snatch is a movie that will go beyond generations. It's 2000s version of Scarface, Casino, Goodfellas or any number of gang/heist movies. The Blu-ray version is a little more than an upgrade of the Deluxe DVD release 10 years ago, but you can't go wrong with the story, setting and style. The menu on the Blu-ray IS obnoxious. Single clicks turn into multiple, menus pop out of random areas, the menu system's a mess. And video quality is showing its age. For whatever reason, the transfer shows banding, dulls, and heavy grain. No real artifacting, but banding is all over the place, especially during the darker sequences and slowed shots. But I can live with these issues for the trend setter that the movie is. The movie is just... glorious.
Layer Cake is a lot like Snatch. English setting, thugs, a confusing plot, characters thrown into a convoluted mess that's completely out of their control. But instead of money and "Da Stone", the drama revolves around a precious cargo of MDMA. Big names are in Layer Cake including Daniel Craig, Tom Hardy, Burn Gorman, English faces that Westerners have been seeing a lot of lately. Layer Cake DOES look fantastic and obviously had Hi Definition in mind when it was made. The jargon is even harder to understand than Snatch, so put on the Subs if you can't understand "bloody" English colloquialisms.
A sky high recommendation for any fella (or gal) that loves Guy Ritchie's style, or who just loves heist cappers in general. Worth every penny!

Sony has wisely released a two-disc set featuring two modern gangster classics from the U.K. at a nice price. Layer Cake is a great film featuring Daniel Craig in the role that earned him the nod for James Bond trying to make one last big drug deal before he retires for good all the while foiling a mysterious assassin who sets his sights on Craig's nameless protagonist as the drugs he happens to be off-loading were stolen from a European businessman. Snatch is Guy Ritchie's more comic masterwork featuring a mix of American and English actors playing desperate characters trying one way or another to get in and out of trouble. Both films feature crisp transfers which are pretty much a standard for Sony and thankfully as mentioned above these films are housed on their own discs rather than compressed together. At the current price this set is to use a rather droll pun, a steal.

Snatch is a trope definer. Layer Cake, while not as notorious as Snatch (or Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels) is just as convoluted, violent, and stylized. Snatch is looking its age on Blu-ray, truthfully the collector's DVD that released several years back is probably the best we're going to get, but Layer Cake looks like it was made yesterday. I was pleased to see all sorts of familiar faces along with Daniel Craig in Layer Cake, like Tom Hardy, Jason Flemyng, and Burn Gorman to name a few. A MANDATORY purchase for anyone who remotely loves heist movies filled with awesome.

I was looking to buy Snatch, as it is one of my favorite films, and was wandering around the store when I came across this double feature. I had never seen Layer Cake, but I am a big fan of Daniel Craig so I figured why not pull the trigger? Very surprised, not a role in which you'd think Daniel Craig would star in but man does he deliver. Considering Snatch by itself was $10, this set with another film at the same price was a no brainer to grab. Great action paired with great comedy.

Clear and simple, both films are amazing. If you like "Pulp Fiction" or any nonlinear narrative with violence and comedy, then "Snatch" is the film for you. I had a really fun time with this one, and it's a Must-See film overall.
If you liked Daniel Craig in previous films, I strongly suggest to watch "Layer Cake", the role that gave him the role of Bond. It is also a very compelling crime drama, and one of my favorites. Also a Must-See.

Layer Cake is a really tough, pretty brutal thriller that you may want to turn away from but won't be able to.
Snatch is a looser, more humorous Guy Richie Romp that has some of the gritty atmosphere of Cake but is a lot lighter and more fun.
A nice double feature and both look and sound great.

One of the greatest British gangster movies meets one of the most underrated in this Blu-ray double-pack. If you haven't seen one or both of these movies, or simply don't have them on Blu-ray, this double-pack needs to be added to your collection.

There is something about an English gangster film, especially these quirky little ones that are so much fun to watch. The locations are wonderful, the stories well told and the performances are extraordinary. Lean, sparse stories that are told with flair and gusto. I enjoyed these very much.

If you've never seen Layer Cake you are missing out on an all time classic. The way this story is told was ingenious. And the plot twists will leave you speechless. Oh and I just described Snatch too!!!

Missed these when they originally came out. Purchased them based on previous reviews. Both were definitely worth the money. The set came with digital ultraviolet copies of each which was a nice touch not listed on the packaging.

These movies are basically the definition of "cool" and they somehow look better than ever on this Blu-ray release. I like that they come packaged together here and at such a decent price.

Totally worth it just to have Snatch on bluray. One of Pitts best performances, with Statham putting it over the top. Guy Ritchie films are different but great all the same.

Layer Cake is Matthew Vaughn's directorial debut before breaking out with KA, X-Men: First Class, & Kingsman. This is a very underrated, under appreciated gem. Paired another timeless movie, this is a great deal!

It doesn't matter which way you lean. Both of these height/caper films are worth it. See Craig before he became bond, and Pitt before he became married to Jolie.

I bought this for Snatch, which I've seen before and liked. Great cast and darkly funny. Layer Cake was a bonus for me, and turned out to be a pretty good film.
