Backup for original battery, not had to try yet.

Since Best Buy discontinued carrying Canon SX40 replacement batteries and I had purchased a camera from them before I found that out, I needed a backup battery. Canon brand batteries were selling around $55 and Canon instructions said generic batteries would not work in the SX40 and possibly ruin it if tried, in effect forcing customers to buy their highly overpriced batteries. Have not used yet, but will if original battery discharges and backup is needed. If it destroys camera, future cameras will be another brand and also use double A batteries.

at first i was a little worried this camera would get really hot or damage my cannon camera but after testing it out and taking multiple pictures to see the longevity of the batter i was surprised it lasted a long time.

I always like to have a spare battery on hand that is fully charged and ready to go.

Extra (generic) battery at a good price

The Canon batteries are expensive. This generic brand looks similar, works fine in the Canon charger, and appears to work just fine in the camera based on my early experience. Thus it seems to be a practical and economic substitute, great to have an extra battery handy when your current one runs out (always in the middle of photo-taking) and needs recharging.
