Thin, lightweight, and capable tablet

Verdict: Good value for the money. Light weight with a big screen and capable specs, this is a good choice for media consumption, web browsing, email, some productivity requirements, and AI usage.
First impressions. Included are the quick start guide, other manuals, a key for the SD card, a charging cable and the tablet. It’s very thin and light, with materials that feel premium. I like it!
Setup. Fairly standard tablet setup (including required software updates). During setup you can choose to use face recognition to sign on, which is great. I don’t love the recommended apps and required games to install upfront; it’s extra work to remove them later. You can choose between gesture navigation (swipes on the screen) or 3-button navigation (dedicated buttons at the bottom of the screen).
Specs. The specs are good at this price range. The screen is large, bright, and high resolution (2.5k). The included 128GB of storage is good, especially with the added functionality of Micro SD storage to move media and to expand storage. 8GB of RAM is very decent for a tablet, and sufficient for almost all tablet usage. I am not familiar with the MediaTek processor used, but it’s an octa core and appears to be good. Battery capacity is good, yielding about 13 hours of streaming. In my testing, I used only about 72% battery in ~3 hours of streaming, so that’s about right.
Interface. I much prefer swipe navigation because I get more screen real estate and it’s similar to the smartphone navigation that I am used to. Swipe down for settings (including PC mode). Swipe right to get to the Google entertainment space.
Performance. Bloatware is fairly minimal, and you can uninstall it. The tablet runs smoothly, both in terms of interface navigation and media consumption. As with most things now, there are multiple AI options, including the Gemini app and Lenovo AI notes. I think these are convenient but it’s a bit more clunky to copy-paste data and ask the AI to do something with it. Of note, if you buy the pen, there is a cool feature to circle and search anything you see on the tablet. The voice feature in Gemini is the most helpful AI part of the tablet. I have tried to be productive on tablets in the past, but it’s really hard because I miss the functionality and power available on computers. The PC mode on this tablet helps with familiarity, and maybe with a mouse and keyboard, you could really work on this. In my case, I have enjoyed this tablet more for media, browsing, email, video chats, and reading; this tablet is fantastic for these purposes.
Things I like:
- 128GB of storage at this price range is about standard
- Micro SD storage is very helpful to move media and to expand storage; some prominent tablets do not have this feature
- 8GB of Ram is very decent for a tablet, and sufficient for almost all tablet usage
- The 12.1” screen is wonderful! It’s hard to go back to a smaller tablet after this screen
- Lightweight and thin
- Premium materials with a really nice feel
- Beautiful screen with 90hz refresh rate and 800 nits of brightness
- The webcam and camera work well
- Supports a smart cover and keyboard (not included)
- Also compatible with a stylus (not included)
- Good battery life, but consider managing screen brightness to lengthen battery
Things I don’t love.
- Speakers are fine, but I think I expected more from Dolby Atmos quad speakers. Quality is good, but loudness is average
- You will definitely need a case for this, probably a screen protector, and maybe a keyboard. There are a lot of options online, but consider the additional investments on top of the cost of the tablet
- It comes with Android 15, plus two upgrades (to Android 17), and you get security patches until 2029. Not sure what happens after that though…
Overall, this is a solid choice for a tablet. I do think the space is crowded and there are a lot of options, both less expensive and much more expensive. Ultimately, I think this is priced about right and the value is there; even better if you can get this on sale. I bought a slim cover for it to keep it light and thin, and I have been very happy with it for web browsing, media, email, and other light productivity on the move.

If you're in the same boat as me, looking to replace an older tablet, then definitely give this Lenovo Idea Tab Plus a shot.
My current/old tablet (Tab S7 Plus) is going on 5 years old. Still working but software is outdated. My mom has an even older Lenovo tablet, 8 years old, so I started looking into that brand. If a much cheaper tablet can last that long and still work decently, I'm all for it.
I wanted something in the 12 inch range as I feel it's the perfect size for a tablet. This screen isn't amoled but it's still looks very nice. The colors and blacks aren't as rich but I have barely noticed a difference in my testing. The refresh rate is mid-range but handles almost everything well. There was some stuttering a couple times but not bad at all.
Having current software (and future upgrades available) again is a necessity in this day and age. Things work well together again. The Lenovo skin on Android is similar to Samsung and easy to figure out.
The battery life on this Lenovo tab is amazing. I use my tablet mainly every morning for 2-3 hours, and I got 6 days of use before I had to charge it. My old tablet I had to charge every 3 days. And it charges back up in under 2 hours. If you use a pd/pps charging brick, it charges at 35 watts so have or get one that is 45 watts or more.
The camera is fine, it takes pictures. I rarely use a tablet to take pictures anyway, stick with the phone camera.
The speakers are also quite impressive. Nice loud and clear audio. They even manage to produce some bass! Having 2 on each side makes the sound quite immersive.
This tablet is so new it can be difficult to find a case for it but I tried a universal 11.5 inch case and it fits perfect. (It blocks the camera but is easy enough to pop off)
I'm very impressed with this quality of tablet at this low price point.

Nice Android Tablet Option

This is a great basic tablet from Lenovo. I’ve done a cheaper laptop before thinking I didn’t need much and just wanted a bigger screen than my phone, but the difference in better hardware of this tablet is really worth it.
Out of the box you can already tell its well built, however just like almost every phone now days, you really need a case. If for no other reason than the camera on the back makes it not lay quite right without one when you set it down. I do feel like both phone and tablet makers have just assumed you’ll get a case so don’t even try to make it very functional without one.
Startup was smooth and easy. Downloading my apps went fine. If you have an android phone, most apps will even work seamlessly between devices. You will have to use face recognition, pin or password rather than a fingerprint if that’s what you’re used to with your phone and this is your first tablet. Its really not a big deal, but may take getting used to for some people, especially if you try to put any banking or other apps on it that want to rely on your fingerprint.
If you use messenger or another app other than a manufacturer texting app on your phone you can even link up your txt messages so the only thing you can’t do with your tablet that you can with your phone is make a call. But if you use video calls more than actual phone calls, then you can probably get away with leaving your phone somewhere else altogether while you have your tablet.
At 12.1 inches, the screen is obviously better for watching videos and doom-scrolling and is fantastic for handing to my kids in the car on a longer trip.
The bigger memory (both hd and ram) for a better than the most basic tablet is really worth it. The startup time, the loading of each new app, and switching between apps is so much faster. The actual apps also run so much smoother that you will regret getting a cutthroat deal on a really basic tablet and probably no use it much and just go back to your tablet. Really less than 8gb ram isn’t worth it and I would say that if you have an sd card you can use that less hd space is ok, but too low and your apps start having to install on your sd card. The stats for this tablet match a pixel 9a, so is right up there with a mid range phone and is about as low as I would suggest going when you’re talking about a tablet.
Overall I think this is a great option for a nice big screen tablet that gives you a bit better viewing experience than a phone or a great non-phone option for a younger kid that may still need to be kept occupied on a long road trip.

The Lenovo Idea Tab Plus is a great work horse tablet for all around use. It is thin and relatively light at 1.2lbs. It has 128GB of memory, a microSD card slot and USB-C port for charging.
In my mind there are two standout features of the tablet. First, the screen is big, bright and bold. It's a beautiful screen presentation at 2560x1600. The colors are vibrant, the blacks are deep and rich, and the viewing angle is surprisingly good. Video motion is smooth and I experience no "lag" with fast motion.
Second, battery life is pretty good. With the screen at half brightness I streamed a video for about 10hrs before it got down to 5%. With the screen at full brightness it lasted around 5hrs. But note that the screen is plenty bright for most uses, and half brightness indoors is plenty.
The sound quality from the speakers shocked me at how good it is. It sounds like surround sound. Obviously, it's not going to be as good as a larger system but I was impressed.
The tablet can also be put in "PC mode" to use more like a traditional computer, but I do not have the keyboard etc to test that with. On that note, there are no other USB ports for external devices. They all need to be bluetooth devices to connect to the tablet.
Here are a few things I did not like:
-Despite what the description says, I did not receive a charger. There is an included USB-C charging cable, but no actual charger.
-The front facing camera is on the long side of the tablet. I would prefer it be on the short side.
-USB-C port does not support external monitor

A Solid Android Tablet

This is my first Android tablet in a long time (over ten years) and I've been fairly impressed. Build quality has been outstanding. The screen while not an OLED is still quilt impressive with excellent viewing angles and no perceptional lag or blurring. Colors have been vibrant. The sound from the speakers has been simple amazing from a tablet in this price range. I have used this table for the better part of week during a recent hospital stay to watch some downloaded TV shows and movies and I was very impressed with both the picture and sound quality. Of couse adding a 2GB micro-SD card helped with that.
It's not heavy from a tablet perspective and the bult in camera is best left alone the image quality is simple put, horrible. Honestly though do you really want to use a 12 inch tablet for picture taking? The front facing camera is "OK" for video calls if you have nothing else to use.
Setup was easy and I wasn't forced to sit through more one or two updates before I was up and running. Nice!
